The watcher
King Artiemus wasn't a a normal king because he was immortal. After the death of his wife he found out that it was his brother Orrick whom hired an assassin to kill her. This started the Great War where Orrick impaled Artiemus through the Heart win the war and gaining the Kingdom of Salon. Artie was not dead he became The Watcher looking for revenge for his murdered wife. In the castle of Salon is a battle to the death but the Ring of Time transported them into the future where the adventure continues.
