This little book is like holding a small curated collection of pen and ink art in your hands. I appreciated the diverse styles on display with this simple medium, and as with all collections some art spoke to me while others did not. I would have liked more information about the pieces themselves, still, this is a good book to flip through when you're looking for pen and ink inspiration.
It's a nice booklet to scroll through and gaze at some exceptional drawings made with pen and ink. Compared to "the art of urban sketching" - a masterpiece I must say - it falls a bit short on two domains: firstly because there are only a few artists selected for the book and they showcase different works and secondly because there's simply not a lot of explaining done. What pen was used, what technique, how long did it take them? I like to know those things - mostly it's simply commented like "done with washes of ink." without a trace of the kind or brand of ink. But I still give it 3 stars as something like that is to be expected for a small book you can carry around in your pocket at any times.
Nice little book with a wide range of different artists showcased with an art work on every other page. Provides some good insights into how artists go about their pen and ink work. The range of "pens" used by the artists is quite surprising (technical pens, twigs, ballpoints, fude nibs, markers, etc) - will encourage you to try something different.
This book shows a fascinating variety of works in pen and ink. For each piece, the author explains the artist's inspiration, process, and techniques, which helped me, as a pen-and-ink newbie, appreciate the art even more.
The works are helpfully organized by the characteristics they showcase (e.g. tone, color, texture).
If I'm looking for project inspiration, this is a book I'll turn to!
A nice compilation of various artists' uses of the medium, divided into categories inclucing Line, Tone, Colour, Monochrome, etc. Beautifully inspiring. Now get out your paper and get started.
