With only a few tasks left, Theola is days away from obtaining her full power. But completing her quest only takes Theola another step closer to her inevitable confrontation with Raspirnid. In order to better ensure success against the tyrant's army, Theola and her task companions must go in search of more fighters, though they end up finding much more than they bargained for.
I loved the Lyprin character and wished that he had been delved into in greater detail. He's mysterious and factors into the story in a way that's intriguing. When we first learn of him, you'd expect that he would play a bigger role, but sadly, he stays far off in the periphery of the book and only makes smaller appearances (his second being the biggest, but it felt like it could have been extended to provide greater insight into his role).
My main frustration with this entire series is that Theola's companions tell her how challenging their tasks were to get their magic and she seems to breeze right through them all with little to no difficulty at all. I understand that she is supposed to be more powerful than they are (they often comment on how quickly she's gaining prowess over he powers), so I can kind of dismiss this annoyance; however, the worst one she encounters requires her to perform magic for two hours. In the same leg of their journeys, her companions had to dig holes repeatedly until they finally found their gem piece while another had to trek up the mountainside over one hundred times before being able to proceed. In contrast, two hours seems a little meh to me.
And then the end of the book. I had a hard time with this.
Finally, the love story had such a blasé end that surmounted to a Kelly Taylor, 90210 "I choose me" moment with the stipulation that "but not forever, just for now" kind of addendum.
Amazing. It ended the only way it really should have ended. It brought all the feels. Totally tied all 3 books together, but could've stood alone. Highly recommend checking out this trilogy, if you haven't already.
