Solley Rayner hopes a few weeks with her family will help heal her shattered dreams, but she hasn't counted on meeting a woman who stirs her heart. A movie stunt crew arrives to film a blockbuster in the bay, and Gin Ito heads up the team.
Gill McKnight is Irish but spends as much time as possible in Lesbos, Greece, which she considers home. She can often be found traveling back and forth between Greece and Ireland in a rusty old camper van with her rusty wee dog. Gill enjoys writing, roses, and by necessity DIY.
**! this was odd from the very start of the story: the writing and dialogue kept switching from one topic to the next, most of the other characters involved were just way too horny and obnoxious, then lets not talk about the wife who herself was just a horrible person in this storyline...
This popped up on my trading site and I had heard good things of Gill McKnight, though not this particular book.
I now know why ;) It's incredibly flat and soulless. It is billed a romantic adventure, but really, there's not a lot of romance in it. There is a lot of talk of sex and being horny (that word must be used a gazillion times in this novel), but feelings aren't really palpable. The characters are flat and sometimes caricature-like (especially the evil ex) and didn't engage me at all, thus I couldn't really bring myself to care about the lead romantic pairing. The dialog is supposed to be funny, but really often is just crude, I think the story is supposed to have a sitcom-like feeling to it, but some of the situations are just unbelievable and thus not funny to me.
I wonder how much my dislike of this book, set in the movie-biz, stems from just having read Kallmaker's Stepping Stone, who manages to describe the business with well-rounded characters that are anything but stereotypical.
A really short read, and it shows. It had no deep character or relationship development. Toward the end, it seemed more like a parody. If you want to read one of Gill McKnight’s books, I recommend Ambereye instead.
The beginning was great, it was coming along just fine.. when it came to the middle everything got out of place. Could have been much better storyline with different choices.
A fun read even if the humour was off the wall silly at times. Sweet romance considering the stunt women and stunt kids involved. Memorable for me will be the fascination one character had for the "cigar butt nipples" of her lover.
It took me several minutes to think howa many Stars to rate this one, I really enjoyed it until solley got all crazy without even trying to talk to cinnamon roll Gin! That's something I dislike so much and I couldn't enjoy it anymore after that, I instantly loathed solley all the time after that stunt, get it? Hahaha ah, sorry couldn't resist. Gin is quite an enjoyable character! The sister of solley too! I laughed too with a lot of the jokes in the book, and loved their first date. It was... A good read. I love Gin
I find this story difficult to be believable. Fiery redhead with very immature thoughts and unchecked mouth seems a no no. Add to that is the really suttle view and inaction to the money finagling...i Just find such redhead totally disgusting. Also i don't get the reference to Gin being Japanese if no other valuable background relating to that was made to give Gin's character more foundation.

I had a mixed reaction to this book. I thought it started out okay and I was interested in following the story. I was also happy to see a non-white character, Gin Ito. What got weird is that I found I liked Solley, the main character, less and less as the story went long, especially because I really liked Gin. Solley has immaturity and a hot temper while Gin seems to be a deeper character. Somewhere in the middle, the story shifts to the point that it felt like maybe the author stopped writing and came back a year later to finish it because it starts out more serious but then moves into silly comedy. I did really like "Ambereye" by this author and am game to reading more titles. However, I didn't enjoy this one much.
I love everything Gil McKnight writes. While this book may not be one of her best, I was glad to find one of McKnights books I hadn’t read (book was published in 2008). Because of repeated infidelity, a lesbian couple (with three children) are divorcing. One of the women takes the kids to her sisters for a summer break from the rows at home. There she meets a stunt woman working on a movie that’s filming on her sisters beach property. There are a lot of characters and I’ll concede that some were awkwardly developed. If you are not a McKnight fan you might have trouble with that and because of the lack of backstory, some of the scenes were awkward, too.
