Bobbie Jo didn't set out to buy a limping blue roan mare--she wanted a colt she could train to barrel race. But the horse is a fighter, just like Bobbie Jo. Now all she has to do is train the sour old mare that obviously has a past. While she nurses the horse back to health, Bobbie Jo realizes that the horse, now called Blue Moon, may have more history than she first thought. With the help of the enigmatic Cole, she slowly turns the horse into a barrel racer.
Blue Moon is Marilyn Halvorson's second book in the Orca Soundings series. Bull Rider was an ALA Quick Pick nominee. When she is not caring for cattle on her ranch, Marilyn spends her time writing.
A very simple, short story. Not a lot of depth, but a cute ending. My younger horse-loving self would have ate this up. Let’s be honest, I’m still secretly a horse-girl, hence why I picked this book.😂
It's a quick, sweet read, but I drug it out, because life gets in the way of good reading. If you are a horse crazy girl like me, then you'll understand and appreciate it. Otherwise, I don't think it'll do much for you. I wanted it to be more than it was, but was satisfied despite that, if that makes any sense at all. I collect horse books, so it's being added to my collection.
This was a fascinating book. I love horses, and I love books about them, fiction or nonfiction. In this book, Bobbie Jo goes to a horse auction, intending to buy a colt she can raise and train for barrel racing. She comes home, instead, with a beat-up, temperamental mare who was about to be sold to a meat buyer. A schoolmate worked at the auction house who happened to be her next door neighbor, and Bobbie Jo happened to be ten dollars short on her bid, so Cole gives her some money to meet the bid. so begins a summer of horse training, an irritating classmate who ends up being not so irritating after all, and in the end, a barrel race. But things aren't quite what they seem. Cole's father has a friend who lost a mare looking a lot like Blue Moon. Blue roans are rare anyway, but everything else seems to fit. Cole's father says he won't interfere, though, so whatever she chooses to do will be her choice. What will she do? The horse missing came from B.C. and she was in Alberta. She could choose not to make the call to alert the owner that she might have his mare, and no one would be any the wiser...no one except Cole and herself. What would she do? Blue Moon would have been sold to a meat packing plant if she hadn't been bought by B.J. Didn't that count for something? But she knew how she'd feel if she'd been the one with a missing horse. What to do? This was an awesome story, and I found myself laughing out loud more than once at the antics of B.J. and Cole, who try so hard in the beginning to act like they hated each other, but sharing in the work with the horse, even though B.J. did most of the work and Cole mostly watched, somehow brought them together in a way B.J. never would have thought possible. I loved the way it turned out.
The writing is not the greatest; it contains a lot of 'suddenly's and 'realised' - sometimes combined, and there was never GREAT SUSPENSE!!! or much character growth. But I kinda liked it, and it was fun.
Such a great little book. Read it in one sitting. Although I don't know the author, I know of her through my husband and his friends. Nice to see that there is an author in our own backyard. Looking forward to reading her first book as well.
i didnt like the main character and how she talked about her horse. it would be way more enjoyable if she was kinder to her💀 i liked the little plottwist at the ending
Growing up as a child and taking care of an animal can be tough work. It's not always all fun and games. Bobby Joe is a teenage girl who loves horses. She had wanted a horse all of her youth and worked jobs in order to save for one. The horse she choose was a poor and expensive one but her goal was to have it racing by the end of the summer. Her friend Cole who helped her afford the horse started to become very close with her. While they did have feelings eventually those feelings went bad and not only did she lose a friend but she neglected to train her horse for some time because of this. Will she do well at the show? Read this book to find out. Very good Hi Low book for someone who enjoys animals especially horses.
I really enjoyed this book. I use to ride a lot when I was younger & I could relate to her in some ways. She had to take huge responsibility when she made the decision to buy the blue roan. I could have never done what Bobby Jo did. She really worked hard & put her all into working with her horse. It seemed to pay off in the end too. Bobby Jo was a lucky girl to hAve gotten where she did with her horse. This book taught me to look at things & don't judge situations until you know them. Bobby Jo had to get to know Blue Moon & teach her right from wrong. But she never gave up.
The Book was a very good book. I like how she and her horse Blue Moon really had a good connection. I think it was funny how she was really scared cause she got a horse when her dad told her she can get a horse. I like how her and Cole became really good friends closer to the end of the book. The description of the horse really make me want a Blue Roan horse. I also like how it was all about barrel racing.
#2 Blue moon is an amazing book to read. The story about Bobbie Jo and her horse is very well rating. The way that Bobbie Jo and her horse develop their relationship betting them self is a real adventure, because even though their two different spices they have so much in comment, at first they can really real icy it un till the and.
BJ doesn't quite know what she's gotten herself into when she buys a horse from an auction. Is the blue roan too old to learn how to barrel race? Is BJ out $700 bucks? This quick book benefits from having a quirky and determined main character and I also liked he sparring relationship that she has with her dad's farm hand.
i think this book is pretty good and it is about a girl who goes to an auction because she wants to buy a horse and has been saving for it and she buys it but is one dollor and something cents short and her friend lets her borow it and it is a good horse.
It was a wonderful book! I would recommend it to any horse lover or a person that used to love horses. It reminds me personally of my childhood. I enjoyed the story besides Bobby Jo just buying the horse. The story was not at all boring.
