The year is 2119 and the world is not as it once was.
Hadyn's been lost since before the Change, before all technology was cut off from the world. The Slayers have been after him for decades, one with a special interest in seeing him ripped apart, slowly, painfully. How long can Hadyn stay hidden? When he is being hunted at every turn. Then he met her.
Edana didn't expect her life to get this interesting, nor did she think she'd ever find a dragon. She knew they existed, she'd always felt there was a world that was hidden. A chance meeting with Hadyn has confirmed her beliefs. Are all dragons as devastatingly handsome as Hadyn? Could she be that lucky?
When the Slayers find them, she is caught in the middle of a battle between two rivals who have been hunting each other for centuries.
Can Hadyn keep her safe from his world? Or will she burn along with them?
Kate grew up in Western Sydney, in Australia, and remains there today. She has always loved the written word, being influenced by the likes of Edgar Allan Poe, JR Ward and Anne Rice, she ventured into writing at a young age.
Finally taking the plunge in 2016 and publishing for the first time. Ever since, she’s been trying to bring the worlds she’s created in her head to the page for everyone else to enjoy as much as she does.
When she’s not writing, she’s looking after her bevvy of pets including snakes, lizards, axolotls, birds, a turtle and a dog with her husband Kyle.

On his way back home a young woman named Edana is being attacked by those called the Destitute. She turns out to be a thorn in his side but still the very best thing that could have ever happened to him.
So I belong to this FB group called Blind Date with a Book. Its super awesome. How many of you will pick a book based on the cover? I’m guilty of this too but that’s why this group is so great. It allows you to literally not judge a book by its cover. Who doesn’t love that? So here’s how it works you fill out a form and there are 4 or 5 different taglines from different books. You pick a tagline and they send you the book. You have a month to read it and then you write a review. I really think it’s an awesome concept. So if you have a facebook page go on over to the group and send a request you will not regret it.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The main character Hadyn is your typical brooding hero type but he is a little different in that he is a dragon. Unfortunately he has not been able to control his changing. The book opens with him in an unfamiliar apartment naked not remembering how he got there. Once he finds some clothes he heads out to go home and sees some men attacking a young woman. He runs them off and even though it doesn’t say it in the book its clear it was love at first sight. The girl Edana immediately follows him home and starts asking him questions. Hadyn is shocked that she isn’t bothered by the fact that he is a dragon. The strike up and friendship immediately but neither one of them are very forthcoming about their pasts. But being on the run together eventually brings them closer then just friends. There are slayers that are out to kill Hadyn just for being who he is. One in particular named Halvar has it out for him they have a bad history between the two of them. Halvar isn’t going to stop until he’s rid of Hadyn once and for all.
The story as a whole was really good. The ending was kind of wide open. I’m not sure if this is going to be a series or not. But I would definitely read it if it was. I’m giving this book 3 out of 5 stars. Mostly because there wasn’t much back story on the characters or the world they were currently living in. There were some small plot holes but nothing to bad that I didn’t want to finish the book. I recommend this book for any one. However, not for young readers there are some sexy scenes and language that aren’t appropriate for young readers. But if you love fantasy this is definitely a good book to check out.
What an interesting new take on dragon shapeshifters! I enjoyed reading about the history of dragons and their battles with dragon Slayers. The two main characters were intriguing, though I frequently found other characters even more attention-grabbing. Although it seems like this might be a standalone novel, it would be wonderful to see other characters, like Rowen or Delia, to get their own books.
Hadyn Torrens has been in hiding for a long time. Living in a post-apocalyptic world without electricity, society has turned medieval and people are hunting all of the Drakon who are foolish enough to make themselves known. After saving a human named Edana Wynters from a group of Destitutes, he gains her as a companion, and they make their way through various lands looking for safety. Edana feels no fear when she discovers Hadyn's true nature, and she is determined to help him control his shifting powers. As they become closer, their love turns into a danger that jeopardizes Edana's life and threatens Hadyn with the loss of yet another loved one.
Hadyn's gruff temperament was nicely contrasted by Edana's bright demeanor, and they were practically an old married couple from the get-go. They become close in spite of Hadyn's fear of loving someone again. Edana senses this reluctance, but she is determined to love him and have him love her back. Their stumbles and losses along the way made it seem like maybe their love wouldn't last, wouldn't be able to break through Hadyn's wall, but it was a beautiful struggle to watch. In the end, love definitely prevailed.
I love Kate Bonham's writing style! It's engaging and quick, keeping her ideas fresh and exciting. I am eager to read more of her books in the future.

This is a stand alone book
I have haven't read the genre of book for quite sometime so when I saw the opportunity to read this book I jumped at it. I'm glad I did I remembered my love for this type of book and it was action packed from the beginning. The storyline was good although I feel there were some parts missing from the storyline and also it ended rather abruptly. I found the similarity in names used for characters was confusing at times and I had to stop and remind myself about the character in was now reading about. That being said…..
There was a great deal of imagination that went into the writing of this book and it shines through. The detailing was excellent and you could vividly see what was happening and what everything looked like. I struggled to put this book down and I honestly read it all within 6 hours of getting the book! I read a lot… it takes a really really good book to hold my attention for that long but this one did! Overall it was a fantastic book and was very much enjoyed. I'm rating 4 stars simply because I felt ‘cheated’ with the ending and the parts missing and also the character names should have been easy to distinguish…. It would have been nice to see the book as a duet so more detail could have gone in.
I'm a huge fan of Ms Bonham and wow, Now she has Dragons... Yes Dragons
I really enjoyed Hadyn and Edana's story.. Set in the year 2119 and in a dystopian world, things are not what they seem. Haydn has been in hiding, hiding from the slayers, slayers who want nothing more than to see him dead! Then he meets Edana... Edana who thinks there is more to the struggling world in which they live... Finally found a Dragon... And were they all this smoking hot..
The Slayers are on their trail so they run trying to elude the one slayer that has been hunting him for centuries.. Ok so I'm not going into spoilers..
A Wonderfully written, fast paced and exciting read that had me completely captivated to the end. I would definitely recommend this book to all fans of PNR... You won't regret it's!
I really enjoyed this book, but of course I love paranormal reads, shifters, vamps and such. This book was well written with very well developed characters and storyline about dragons and slayers. The story flowed fluidly and holds your attention all the way through to the end. This is the first time I read this author’s work and I have a feeling it will not be the last. I look forward to reading more from this author and I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves reading about dragons to give this book a shot. You will not be disappointed.
This is a new to me author and I was intrigued by the paranormal aspect of the story and the fact that it took place in the future.
Haydn had been hiding his true self and I felt bad for him. He was so strong and tough, that he deserved to show who/what he really was.
Edana was very inquisitive. I love how she wanted to learn and asked questions. She totally gave Haydn a run for his money. She was stubborn but stood up for her self, and I loved it. She had me laughing plenty of times.
Rowan was a great secondary character. He was protective of Haydn and I loved that. Every hero needs someone to look out for them and that was Rowan. Despite his sad past.
I loved the whole dragon aspect to this story. I haven't read many of them like that, but add in the end of the world type plot I was totally hooked on this intrigueing story. We have bad guys that we're total jerks and action that had me sweating. The twists and turns that this story had, just wow! I never say some of them coming.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was different but it had the line story that I personally couldn't get enough of. I wish that some part had been longer, more detailed, but in the end I loved the characters and the world building that this author accomplished. 4 stars #2OCCJD
Goes down as another off my 2016 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book set in the future. Loved this book from start to finish, so intriguing all the way through. The year is 2119 where all technology has gone due to a virus and the world seems to have gone back to the dark ages. If you are different you have more than just the average person to look for with the Government and Slayers out in force. Especially if you’re born a drakon – drakon not dragon mind you!
Hadyn has been on the run for years from those that would see him dead for what he is – a drakon, one from a very powerful bloodline. His kind has been hunted for generations so he lives a life of solitude to keep others safe. He may want to live alone but when his protective nature starts kicking in things soon change. When he sees two men hassling a woman he wastes no time in helping her out – mainly by frying the men to a crisp. Thinking the woman would have run away now she’s free from harm, and probably scared of him, he’s shocked to find she stayed and seems more intrigued than anything. Seems he’s stuck with her now – as she’s got nowhere else to go – whether he wants her there or not. Her ever many questions get the best of him and she soon wares him down enough to let her return home with him, just for the night mind you. Well that’s what he thinks! He is wary of having her so close as he fears his drakon is getting wilder and starting to lose control with not being able to control his shifts. He shouldn’t worry too much though as even in his drakon form he manages to protect. Case in point when he shifts in his sleep and almost burns the place down. She would have been toast had his drakon not spotted her and crashed out the window to keep her safe. This unplanned shift has caught the attention of the Slayers though who are soon on their way to take him out. When Edana catches up with him she fills in the blanks and pretty much says he’s homeless now too. Knowing there is a chance that the Slayers think she’s with him they need to stay together and find shelter in another state where hopefully they won’t be followed – famous last words! Seems the Slayers are only be a couple steps behind and they’re catching up fast.
Edana has been on her own ever since her mother kicked her out as a teenager. She is beyond fascinated by Hadyn – well when he’s not being a complete rude moron that is! A few days on route to another state and you soon see sparks fly – from annoyance as much as chemistry. He knows it’s not really safe for her to be with him, or by herself, so goes with the lesser evil. He can’t let himself getting too close to her for the last time he took a lover they were killed because of what he is. Easier said than done when skinning dipping in a hot spring. One kiss is all it takes to fuel the fire that’s slowly been building but he still manages to snuff it out. Back at their tent later that night though he throws caution to the wind, as he can’t seem to help himself when she’s close. They needed to stay hidden and quiet to be safe but both seem to disregard this when getting down to it – not that either really cared at the time. Now he feels the need to protect her even more as the following day danger lingers.
Slayers are closing in and it’s not just with them. The leader of the Slayers – Halvar, has taken hostage Hadyn’s old mentor Rowen and Keelia, a young woman carrying a drakon baby (one he might have a use for), hoping to lure him out to rescue them. He has an ulterior motive for everything and being in his presence for a moment you can tell he’s evil. How he treats his four wives is something else entirely. You soon learn that they really shouldn’t get so attached to the “enemy” as their lives depend on it. Karma is a bit of a bitch, but rightly deserved in this case, for him when he realises that you really shouldn’t come between sisters.
That isn’t the only sub-plot of the story as you are soon introduced to a whole clan of drakon’s – the more the merrier I say. Ones who would do whatever it takes to save one of their own kind and those mated with them. Interesting mix and I hope to see some fun stories for them later in the series. When Edana gets taken all seems lost but with help from inside and outside the castle she shouldn’t fear too much. It might help her look deeper within herself to see something starting to wake up. Something powerful enough to make others afraid it seems. A storm is coming along with a battle and only one side can come out on top. With some kick-ass drakon’s though I know whom I’m betting on.
Great book that kept you hooked from the start. Had a little inkling as to how the storyline might go and what might happen to certain characters but that just made it more interesting as you are creating scenarios while reading, all the while wondering if they will come true. Side note loved the blaze scene. A blaze is when a storm hits and due to the bad weather drakon’s can fly high together undetected. Lets just say that when Hadyn goes flying his reaction after is something Edana could get used too.
A post apocalyptic dystopian stand alone with well developed characters that's packed with action from the start. I loved getting lost in this story and found myself not wanting to put this book down.
The blurb made the book sound exciting but the more I read, the more confused I got. I thought I would be reading a futuristic post apocalyptic story about a dragon but as the chapters went on, I felt I was reading a medieval romance. There were also parts that just seemed to drag on and on.
My first read by Kate Bonham and I was pleasantly surprised! I read this for Quirky Blind Date with a Book. While paranormal shifter books aren't usually a go to for me, I really enjoyed this book! It kept me turning from beginning to end trying to put pieces together and figure out what would happen next! I can't wait until the next book to see who will be featured, but also to hopefully have peeks back into Edana and Hadyn's lives!
4.5/5 stars. Although I really liked this book, it was a bit slow in places. I will be continuing on with this series and am excited to see what happens.
Not a usual book I would have chosen for myself, but glad that I had this as a blind date with a book! Hayden and Edana are amazing, they are brave and fierce!!! I love the fight, the passion, the drama!!! Great book!
