Useful, but the notes contained in the Oxford World's Classics edition are just as good if not better. The best edition of Dubliners which I bought second-hand is the Illustrated Edition with Annotations by John Wyse Jackson. Really brings the best out of these stories and transports you right back into the Dublin so masterfully portrayed by Joyce in this delightful bundle of short stories.
