In a post-apocalyptic world, Lou, a goods trader (batteries, cloth, books, pornographic devices) stumbles upon a new business opportunity when he miraculously begins to lactate. Milk is a rare commodity in a world gone to hell, and so before long everyone in town wants a piece of the action, but there's something not quite right about the milk - other than the fact it came from a fifty year-old man. The milk is bad, turning everyone that consumes it into radioactive mutants with a penchant for human flesh. Now it's up to Lou to put things right, before everyone he knows becomes a milk-guzzling cannibal. Whatever you do, don't drink Lou's Milk...
Adam Millard is the author of twenty novels, twelve novellas, and more than two hundred short stories, which can be found in various collections and anthologies. Probably best known for his post-apocalyptic fiction, Adam also writes fantasy/horror for children and Bizarro fiction for several publishers. His work has recently been translated for the German market.
This is one of those books that makes readers say "Oh My!" and shake their heads ... and smile. I have to wonder about Millard's warped mind, but I love it. A twisted, epic, post-apocalyptic story with a desert setting, but that is the least of the "icky" readers will encounter in MILK.
Never in my life have I been so entertained by anything. The premise of this book is bizarre and hilarious, and the writing style truly fits it. The characters are funny, the dialogue is funny, and the overall writing style had me tittering throughout. I swear, I was laughing out loud on pretty much every page. People on the train were looking at me funny.
I bought this directly from Adam at a horror convention. I'm a fan of his zombie fiction and was most perplexed when I saw 'Milk'. I asked him what it was about and he hesitated and then replied, 'er, just read the back.' I did as directed and instantly started laughing aloud, which is unlike me on account of my dark soul.
I read it in one sitting and was so amused by it that I text people random bits of it (with no explanation, they were very confused and worried about my sanity). I still haven't stopped going on and on about it to everyone with ears. I bought it for my relatives for Christmas because I genuinely think that reading it will make their lives a bit lighter. I've had it for 3 months and I've re-read it twice. I can't get enough of it going in my eyes.
If you like a good story and a laugh, this is the book for you. If you have any sense of humour at all, this is for you. Unless you're some sort of imbecile who doesn't enjoy enjoying things, then you need to read this.
I'm never disappointed with the work of Adam Millard and this is no exception. This is a story with a humorous flow and a edge of seat ending, I couldn't put it down.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I downloaded this. But I was not the least bit disappointed. If you got a love for mutants then you my friend will enjoy.
