It is easy to construct a questionnaire. With word-processor it is possible to design one in a single evening. But developing a questionnaire that yields genuinely worthwile data is much harder than one might think- and useful research does require worthwile data.In Developing a Questionnaire Bill Gillham shows how, why and when to use questionnaires, how to analyze data, how to present results and how to relate questionnaires to other forms of research.Developing a Questionnaire provides a comprehensive guide to the succesful design and implementation of questionnaires as a research method.
I don't usually have books like this as part of my goodreads - normally when reading books related to education as part of my studies I skim read them and only read the chapters or sections I need; however this book I read cover to cover.
This book serves as a basic introducing to developing questionnaires. It is a good book from a general viewpoint but lacks the academic rigour that I was really looking for. For example it only focuses on one method of statistical analysis (chi squared), only touches on coding, and lacks detail on how to calculate statistically significant sample sizes. In addition because the book was published in 2000 it does not talk about using online tools to collect survey data.
In summary this is a good generalist introduction to the topic but academic researchers may want (or need) something more meaty!
Really great introduction, I would recommend it to anyone thinking of doing a questionnaire for the first time, it answers a lot of questions about how to design your questionnaire and get it out there, it also offers a little help on analysis pointing the reader in the right direction and helping to make analysis sound a lot less scary.
