No soy muy fan de la Sra. Higgins Clark. Es un libro ameno, pero sin mucho más que decir.

دوستانِ گرانقدر، این داستانِ معمایی و جنایی، از 370 صفحه و 65 بخش تشکیل شده است
داستان در موردِ دختری به نامِ <لیسی> میباشد که مجرد است و در شهر "منهتن" آمریکا به تنهایی زندگی میکند و هشت سال است که در بنگاه معاملات ملکی مشغول به کار است
روزی زنی به نامِ <ایزابل> با او تماس گرفته و از او میخواهد تا خانهٔ دخترش <هیثر> را به فروش برساند
گویا <هیثر> که دختری 24 ساله بوده است، شبی در حال برگشت به خانه، در ساعتِ دو بعد از نصف شب، و در حال رانندگی در شبی سرد و بورانی و زمستانی، با ماشینش دچارِ لغزش در جاده شده و تصادف کرده و کشته میشود.. امّا مادرِ او یعنی <ایزابل> به طرزِ کشته شدنِ دخترش مشکوک است... و مطمئن است کسی به عمد دخترش را از سر راه برداشته است
از آنجایی که <لیسی> او را یاد دخترش می اندازد، لذا پایِ <لیسی> خواه ناخواه به این مسئله باز میشود
شبی از شبها مادرِ <هیثر> یعنی <ایزابل> با <لیسی> تماس گرفته و به او میگوید، نوشته هایی در کشویِ لباس های دخترش پیدا کرده است که پرده از راز قتلِ دخترش بر میدارد... فردای آن روز <لیسی> به آنجا میرود تا به بهانهٔ نشان دادنِ خانه به مشتری، مدارکی را که <ایزابل> از آنها یاد کرده بود را بررسی کند... امّا ناخواسته شاهدِ قتل <ایزابل> توسط قاتلی است که احتمالاً دخترش <هیثر> را نیز به قتل رسانده بود
حال <لیسی> که پایش به این ماجرا باز شده است، جانش در خطر است، لذا هویتش را تغییر میدهد و مدام در حال فرار از این شهر به آن شهر است و از طرفی به دنبالِ قاتل نیز میگردد

On the back cover of this book is a review I should have paid close attention to. As it was, I didn't see it until after I had inhaled this book. Katy Kelly from USA Today wrote, "PRETEND YOU DON'T SEE HER should come with a warning. Start it in the evening and you'll be reading way late into the night ... This one is well worth the lost sleep."
I picked up this book at 11:30 p.m., on my way to bed. I was just going to look at it. OMG, my husband came out at 4 a.m. & touched my shoulder. He scared me so bad I almost jumped out of my skin. I found a stopping place shortly after & went to bed. I laid there wide awake. I remember looking at the clock the last time at 5:45 a.m. I had to be up at 7.
That evening I sat down to finish the book. The stopping place I had found? I had finished the book & didn't remember it. So, I reread the ending, slowly.

اول لما تلاقي رواية مكتوب عليها باعت مليون نسخة والجو ده اعرف انها رواية ضايعة وباعت بالكتير سبعتاشر نسخة منهم اريعة لقرايب الكاتب زي عندنا كدا تلاقي كتاب لسا مطبوع من يومين ومكتوب عليه الطبعة اللل 18
من رأيي ان الأدب البوليسي كتابته سهلة جريمة قتل وشوية أحداث تشد القارئ فتكون مستمتع وانت بتقرأ ونهاية سعيدة للبطلة تتجوز حبيبها والقاتل يموت محروق ويطلع اساسا اي حد مش متوقع وتتفاجأ بقي
اللي هو احمد مراد يعني.. بيفرق بقي الحبكة وشوية تفاصيل مش مهمة
طبعا ده بعيد عن روايات اغاثا لانها بتبعتك تجيب طلبات وترجع وانت متخيل انك عارف مين القاتل.. الرواية بتكون فيها سبع شخصيات وانت شاكك في تسعة اصلا متخيل وعامل فيها عبقري ويطلع في الاخر الشخص برة التسع شخصيات دول وبأدلة وشغل وحبكة عبقرية
نرجع للرواية الجميلة ده اللي مش عارف اكملها واللي مكنتش عايز اعرف حتي مين القاتل من الملل اللي فيها
قراءت فيها 183 صفحة وزهقان... وعلي فكرة فاضل 200 صفحة علي الرواية ومع ذلك عرفت مين القاتل في فكرة فيلم عربي مهروسة من زمان وحبكة ضعيفة واحداث بطيئة
اللي يضايقك انه بردو مكتوب علي الغلاف احذر لو بداءت الرواية ده الفجر مش هتسيبها من ايدك الا لما تخلصها.. ياه انت كدا شدتني يعني للرواية تقريبا دار مصرية هي اللي طابعة الرواية بالغلاف ده... بطلوا تهريج بقي طب انا مسكتها الفجر والعصر وسيبتها ومملة

تذهب لايسي إلي الشقة لتشهد مقتل إيزابيل علي يد رجل مخيف الهيئة وتبدأ معاناتها منذ لحظة التقاء عينيها بعيني الرجل الزرقاوين الميتتين ونتيجة لرؤيتها المجرم فقد تحولت من لايسي فاريل إلي أليس كارول - الاسم وللمصادفة هو تغيير لأحرف لايسي اختارته بناء علي كتاب مغامرات أليس في بلاد العجائب علي الرغم من اعتقادي أن برنامج حماية الشهود هو ما يختار الهوية للمشتركين فيه - ولا يوجد سوي الكشف عن غموض ثلاث جرائم قتل والايقاع بالفاعل الرئيسي لاستعادة حياتها السابقة والعيش بأمان مع عائلتها ...
رواية بوليسية للأسف ينقصها شيئا ما للتتحول من جيدة إلي ممتازة ربما الحبكة في الأحداث أو إعطاء الشخصيات سماتها المطلوبة فالقاتل المأجور في معظم الأوقات يبدو هاو أحمق وعلاقة إيزابيل الأم بلايسي غير مبررة فليس بمجرد اللقاء في المصعد يجعل لايسي مصدر ثقة والكثير من السقطات في كل شخصية في الرواية ربما لو تحولت لفيلم سينمائي لتفوق علي الرواية ...

المأزق الحقيقي الذي لا يتمنى أحدنا أن يقع فيه، هو أن يشهد على جريمة قتل، يتعرف فيها على القاتل، ومن الناحية الأخرى يراه القاتل ولكن لم يسعفه الوقت لتصفيته، عند هذه النقطة تنقلب حياة الشاهد رأساً على عقب وتتحول لـ هروب ومطاردة واختباء، تتحول ببساطة لمأساة.
هذا ما حدث لـ لايسي فاريل .
لايسي وكيلة عقارات تعيش في منهاتن ، في أحد الأيام تشهد على جريمة قتل إمرأة تُدعى إيزابيل وارينغ، ولأن لايسي الشاهدة الوحيدة التي يمكنها التعرف على القاتل تُصبح حياتها في خطر، بالتالي يتم وضعها في برنامج حماية الشهود بإعطائها هوية جديدة وحياة جديدة بعيدة جداً عن بيتها، لكن في نهاية المطاف على لايسي أن تُصبح بطلة ومنقذة لحياتها بنفسها وعليها أن تحل لغز من يحاول قتلها .
مُختصر قصة إيزابيل وارينغ:
إيزابيل أم لممثلة تُدعى هيذر، توفيت هيذر في حادث سيارة ولكن الأم لم تقتنع بأن وفاة ابنتها كانت طبيعية وأن هناك من تسبب بمقتلها، فتبدأ بالبحث والتقصي من خلال دراسة وتحليل مذكرات هيذر ومن خلالها تتمكن من حل لغز وفاة ابنتها ولكن قبل أن تستطيع إخبار أحد بالأمر، تتعرض للقتل على يد قاتل مستأجر، ولكن قبل أن تلفظ أنفاسها الأخيرة تُعطي المذكرات لـ لايسي.
إذن، حل لغز من قتل إيزابيل ويحاول قتل لايسي مُرتبط بحل لغز من قتل هيذر، والأمر الأخير بالإمكان معرفته من خلال المذكرات، وبما أن القاتل مستأجر يعني أن القاتل الحقيقي هو شخص في حياة هيذر وستتضح المسألة عن طريق فك وتحليل مذكرات هيذر الشخصية والتي تدور حولها القضية.
تُعطيك الكاتبة هنا أكثر من خيار تُحاول من خلاله أن تُخمن "من هو القاتل؟" ، وبالإمكان بناء أكثر من سيناريو -وإن كنت مُعتاد على الأفلام السينمائية الخاصة بجرائم القتل مثلي، قد ترجح السيناريو الصحيح- .
القصة جيدة ولكنها ليست صلبة بما فيه الكفاية، بطيئة نوعاً ما ، وهنالك بعض التناقضات الثانوية التي ضايقتني شخصياً، بالإضافة إلى أن النهاية غير مرضية بالنسبة لي تماماً، طريقة التعرف على القاتل كانت ضعيفة ولكن في نفس الوقت تبدو واقعيّة وهذا يجعلها مميزة، وبشكل عام تعتبر قراءة جيدة ومشوّقة .

Just a friendly advice: do not read this author immediately after reading a Ken Follett or John Boyne book or it will be hard to be fair.
With that said, I will not add any other opinion, as I have already said enough during my book progress.
At least the book is very small. Although the book has 318 pages, there are 65 chapters, all very short, with huge gaps and perhaps double spacing.
And I don’t mind.

Mary Higgins Clark never fails to excite. I finished the book of over 300 pages in 2 days-- over half in a few hours. I loved the plot and I could not put the book down.
If I have any complaints, it is the number of characters. I am awful with names, so when a book has close to 50 characters, things get jumbled in my mind. For instance, it was difficult to keep Tom and Tim separate. The number of characters also led to my inability to fully enjoy the resolution of the novel. When the murderer was revealed, I had to pause for a good 10 minutes to recall who the person even was. I know the majority of that is my fault.. hence the high rating. I just wish her books came with a character list!
Congratulations, Clark! You have mastered the classic mystery. Every character is suspicious, but not to the point of being unrealistic. This ending actually made me gasp. I also have the author to thank for my nonexistent nails. The book is so nerve wracking, I couldn't keep my fingers out of my mouth. Avid mystery readers and that-one-type-of-person-who-can-remember-every-guest-and-newcomer's-name... enjoy!

When the murderer was revealed, I had to pause for a good 10 minutes to recall who the person even was. I know the majority of that is my fault.. hence the high rating. I just wish her books came with a character list!
Congratulations, Clark! You have mastered the classic mystery. Every character is suspicious, but not to the point of being unrealistic. This ending actually made me gasp. I also have the author to thank for my nonexistent nails. The book is so nerve wracking, I couldn't keep my fingers out of my mouth. Avid mystery readers and that-one-type-of-person-who-can-remember-every-guest-and-newcomer's-name... enjoy!

Okay, firstly the names of the characters were so out of place. I read half of the book and it was going nowhere.
Since the beginning of the story, I felt like it was a flop Crime Thriller movie. Everything was way too dramatic.
And why everyone's full names were being repeated three times in a single small paragraph??? No.

One of my favourites. It got a tad bit frustrating at times, but the mystery was handled really well. The red herrings were artfully placed. The tension got my heart pounding, even though this was my fourth time reading it in 10 years. (Yes, I have a pretty bad memory, so I forgot who the killer was. Hahaha!)

Pretend You Don't See Her was an enjoyable suspense book. Was it the best mystery/suspense novel I've read? No. But it did keep my interest and I wanted to finish it.
Lacey was a good main character, but she did some very foolish things...which is probably the point, since most people would most likely behave the same way in her shoes.
The ending was more sudden than I expected, but it did wrap up nicely. Not my favorite of this author's books, but it was definitely a good read.

Honestly, I am so frustrated. This book is so wildly improbable that I cannot see HOW I ever enjoyed it. This book also makes me seriously question my judgement, as Mary Higgins Clark was once my favorite mystery authors.
Lacey witnesses a murder, she is placed in witness protection, she almost immediately gives away her location to her mother, who lacks the discretion or common sense to keep that information to herself. The city that Lacey is placed in just happens to be where two people who knew the first murder victim. She quickly befriends them and learns crucial information about the crime. Ugh, I don't want an author spoon feeding me these types of inane bit of nonsense. This books just progressively gets worse. The heroine and her mom are TSTL and at times, for example when she blames the head of the protection program for getting her secret location exposed, I was rooting for the hitman to get her.

ولم ترقَ الرواية السابقة لمستوى التوقعات ..
بدأت القراءة هذه المرة وتصاحبني الكثير من المخاوف ..
التي سرعان ما تبددت بعد قراءتي لـالصفحات الأولى منها..
لايسي فاريل وكيلة عقارات في مانهاتن - تلتقي سيدة لطيفة تدعى ايزابيل وارينغ ـ لتبيع شفة ابنتها المتوفاة قبل عام ..
في تلك الشقة تقتل السيدة وقبل أن تلفظ انفاسها الأخيرة تعطيها مذكرات ابنتها وتخبرها أنه ما كانَ يبحث عنه القاتل ..
وتوصيها بأن تسلم المذكرات لزوجها السابق ووالد ابنتها ..
فضول لايسي يجبرها على صتع نسختين من المذكرات ، تسلم إحداها لزوج ايزابيل السابق وتحتفظ لنفسها بالنسخة الثانية وتسلم النسخة الأصلية للشرطة ..
بخطوتها هذه( ولأنها رأت وجه القاتل ) أصبحت لايسي في قائمة أولويات قاتل محترف يطاردها ولن يثنيه شيء عن قتلها ..
قضية مثيرة للإهتمام وتذكرك بقضايا أغاثا كريستي بروح أكثر معاصرة ..
أحداث سريعة وشخصيات مرسومة بدقة وحبكة جيدة ، وقد تتفاجأون بالحل ، وإن لم أفاجأ شخصياً ..
الرواية من ترجمة دار هاشيت انطوان جميلة وخالية تقريبا من الأخطاء ..

This one is one of her better mysteries, in my opinion. I used to think really highly of her work, but lately I've realized that it is very much the same format in all of her novels. There are multiple people who know more than they are letting on. And always multiple people who are out for their own advantages. Plus, the girl always meets the guy and it's basically kismet. But I like this one because the heroine of the novel gets placed into witness protection, which has always been a fascinating subject for me. I also think that she was dumb as h*** for telling her mom where she was staying. Honestly, at that point if it had been a horror movie, I would have been rooting for the murderer to kill her.

A poor attempt at mystery/thriller. I've read some of MHC's books so I'm quite familiar with the way she writes but this book is just frustratingly stupid that I just skimmed the book in under an hour. There are inconsistencies that bothered me and the poorly researched police actions just doesn't make sense. I can't believe I wasted my time reading this.

Pretend You Don’t See Her by Mary Higgins Clark is a book that I’ve had on my bookshelf for many years and finally, I got around to reading it and glad I did. I have read a few books by this author and have enjoyed all of them including this one. An intriguing mystery thriller that held my interest to the last page. Recommended.

Lacey Farrell, a successful real estate professional in Manhattan, becomes an accidental witness to a murder. I've read a few Mary Higgins Clark books before and they all seem to follow a very similar format. This one kept me entertained but there were a lot of characters that I had trouble keeping track of and remembering how they fit into the story.

Okay, so Pretend you Don't See Her is my first Mary Higgins Clark book I've ever read, and after having just finished it, I can guarantee it won't be my last. The writing just perfectly flows together, and the mystery, oh my the mystery keeps you hooked! I can't tell you how many times something was revealed in the book only to leave me speechless, which isn't exactly easy by this point in my life, I've seen a LOT of tropes. And another thing I find absolutely dazzling is how the little details are hidden in the text for you to pay attention to, Clark adds enough one-off details on the regular that to an untrained eye, or at the least, a least suspecting eye, the tell-tale details go unnoticed until the reveal they're related to. As you can tell I'm trying desperately to not give any spoilers, which isn't exactly easy because heavens the things that happen in this book kept me on the edge of my seat, particularly in the final few pages. I had 8 pages to go at one point and I was hoping and begging that this wasn't going to end on a massive cliff-hanger (It didn't, thankfully). But anyways, back to the writing, I absolutely adore this style! It's not one I run across too often, it's definitely not vintage, but certainly an older style than the modern books I typically read nowadays (I wish I could find a word that describes the style more flatteringly but this is the best I've got at the moment), but it's a lovely style, and I would daresay Clark uses it to the fullest. And the characters! Most books have an issue of only the main character(s) feel fleshed out, but in Pretend You Don't See Her, you'll get enough little one-off details here and there about the characters (That fit excellently into the story without slowing down or hindering the speed of the plot in the slightest) to make them feel like actual real people. You can feel their personalities, their humor, and all of their reactions feel perfectly human and natural. This book quickly made it's way to my list of favorites to put it simply.
Tl:Dr is if you're looking for a good mystery suspense book, this is definitely one to give a shot. I sincerely doubt you'll regret it.

I like Mary Higgemins Clark. I know what I'm going to get with her - good old fashioned suspense. A mystery that's never easy to figure out and satisfying in the end. This book is no exception. Clark writes characters that I like - all of them - even the bad guys who I don't suspect. The bad guys I know about are evil and sinister - the way they they should be.
Quick synopsis - Lacey Farrell is a witness to a murder. She is the only one who can identify the man and now her life is at risk. She's put in the witness protection program, but she in the end, she must solve the mystery of who's trying to kill her and why.
The book has a sense of urgency. I'm not sure I ever fear completely for Lacey's life or not. It is a story that just unfolds so naturally that it could be real. That's probably the reason I like it. I want to know the who and they why, but I'm not afraid because the good guy (or woman in this case) in Clark's books always wins.
You have to love a book that metes out the right kind of justice.
I have sporadically read other books by Mary Higgins Clark and have enjoyed them. Maybe I should spend the rest of the summer reading the rest of her work.

This book would have been a really thrilling mystery if it wasn't so obvious!!! I could tell who was involved in the murder once I started the book. sure there was suspence, but it wasn't all that suspenseful if you knew who did what. I mean really??? Steve was just so perfect how could he not be the master mind?!?!?! Alex was also really obvious, the really noce guy that was not so subtly hinting that the mother should force her daughter's (who is in the witness protection program) location.
Other then that I found Lacey a little annoying.
Overall I found the story interesting. if the people involved in the murder werent so damn obvious about it I would have liked the book a lot more.
