Welcome to Stowe Towne, the small Ohio enclave with some of the most interesting characters you've ever met. Some of the town's colorful residents include Howie Howard and Louisa May Miller. They are related to the town's civil war heroes that have a memorial named for them. Robert Redford runs the newspaper, and the Gettysburg Café is across the street where all the rumors originate. Up the road lies the golf course, The Candlesticks, built back in the 1920's. The word is someone is trying to turn it into an "upscale" residential development.
I read Sticks and enjoyed the experience. It is a story community and dealing with history, landmarks, and relationships while pulling off a real estate deal that encompasses them all. It doesn't make it easy to describe, but it is an enjoyable journey.
Small town. Old values. Golf...lots of golf. Young love. Realtors. Clubs. Progress? Animosity. Redemption. Change. All are covered in this book. The writing was fine, but I struggled about caring for the characters- probably because I'm not a golfer.
