نبدأ بالمميزات: المذكرات ترجمتها محترمة كعادة ترجمات دار العربي، وحبيت الصور المرفقة.
ترجمة النوع ده من الأعمال بتكون ممتازة للاستدلال على نظرة المستشرقين المتعجرفين والغرب الجشع لنا في القرن ال١٩ - وعلى الأغلب نفس النظرة مستمرة لحد النهارده - فيما عدا ذلك، لا يصح أبدًا التعامل مع هذه المذكرات الشخصية شديدة السطحية والتعالي على إنها مرجع تاريخي للتعرف على حقيقة مصر شعبًا وحكومة وتاريخًا ودينًا في هذه الفترة، لأن يوميات جناب السيناتور الأمريكي عديم البصيرة، حول رحلته في مصر من القاهرة لحد أسوان ما هى إلا مزيج دنيء من بلادة وعنصرية الأمريكان البيض، وعنجهية وغرور المستعمر الغربي، وتفسيرهم الجاهل لطبيعة الشعوب المختلفة عنهم.
وأخيرًا، العنوان للأسف مضلل لأن الصعيد ذكر في آخر كام فصل فقط، باقي اليوميات بتحكي عن القاهرة باستفاضة.

مش عارف ليه كتاب زي ده ياخد اهتمام ويتترجم أصلا.
كعادة الغرب المتعجرف كتاب عنصري ومكتوب بنظرة تعالي، والاستفادة الوحيدة من انه يتترجم اننا نفهم نظرتهم لينا.
