How aware were 19th and early 20th century Arab thinkers of the French Revolution and its accompanying political shenanigans? Pretty damn informed actually. Most political movements and ideologies emerging in this lively time took the French bullshit into account, Napoleon, rights of man (and woman, sometimes), and gutterpunches. This 1943 work featured a series of selections of political texts from 1800 to 1940 on this very topic. Some are inane (Marie Antoinette was Louis' daughter?! Gross, Arab thinker!) others are striking in their vivacious call to activism (cut off the Sultan's head) and so on. Probably of interest to 2 or 3 people worldwide. No photographs or manga-type illustrations, although I did see a "Tetsuo: The Iron Man" sequel featured on Netflix Insta-view during the period when I was reading this book.
