I read the first edition back in 1999, it was what lead me to suspect I maybe dyspraxic and in the search for understanding, as a consequence of reading that book - I remember there was a very helpful check-list of characteristics - though as a former qualified social work professional - self assessment can be dangerously wrong - I contacted and joined the Dyspraxia Foundation and became involved in organisations lead by the sadly late Mary Colley a close friend of Dr Kirby.

Dr K is an excellent conference speaker leads an assessment and treatment centre in Newport, South Wales, which is part of a University - where I believe she is now a professor. The last time I met her was at Mary Colley's memorial event in London in about 2011.

Mary Colley also authored a book aimed at helping adult dyspraxics understand the condition as it applies to them and to adapt to the consequences in ways that enable one to live successfully in a world where few understand about dyspraxia and its disabling and dispiriting impact on most aspects of life.

Including writing a review - see how I lost track of what I was writing mid sentence? Non dyspraxics describe the most important aspects as what they see - the clumsiness etc (it used to be called clumsy child syndrome) whereas those who come to understand it for ourselves know the most powerful effect is the way we think, the way we can (it is an individualise condition - every dyspraxic has unique experiences of the condition)lose track of what we are saying whilst we are saying it. It is something to do with 'working memory' and not surprisingly casual acquaintances seem to try to avoid me, because I can be confusing to be with!

Amanda Kirby understands all this from her family experiences and professionally - I doubt there is anyone better suited to lead a treatment centre in the UK (though we will never be cured) than Amanda Kirby.

An updated version of the book thaat started my discovery of me being dyspraxic in 1999.

It lead me to the Dyspraxia Foundation and to hear Professor Kirby speak on a number of ocacsions down the years.

She really understands as she watched her son grow uo with the condition and became a researcher who now has an international reputation and great respect.
