I know I'd heard of this book via 50books_poc, but now can't find Malbunka in the tag list. But I was thrilled to find it in my mother's (extensive) collection of picture books.

Like Down the Hole Up the Tree Across the Sandhills... ...Running from the State and Daisy Bates, this book deserves to become an Australian classic. It's also in many ways similar to Ian Abdulla's As I grew older The life and times of a Nunga growing up along the River Murray. It's a story of growing up as an indigenous child in a remote community: of moving around, of living as much as they could off the land. Beautifully illustrated, too.

Malbunka's first language, Luritja, is used frequently throughout the book, with a useful glossary and notes on language and pronunciation included at the end. This is one of a number of really fabulous books coming out of the Papunya/PTY Lands area of northern South Australia.
