Kristen - "Kristen was suppose to be a tough, money-hungry bitch. Her auburn hair, freckles, pert nose and heart shaped face didn't add up to the picture he envisioned. She reminded him of a little lost kitten, defenseless, yet ready to experiment with her claws."
Morgan - "He wasn't at all what Kristen St. John expected. Tall, lean and tan. His hair, bleached from the sun, glittered almost white beneath the Mexican restaurant's skylight. He looked like an angel, but she knew Heaven hadn't sent Morgan Stone."
Jeff - "Jeff's gray eyes glittered with a feral gleam as a dark flush mottled his face. He looked winded and unnerved. Even his dark blue suit, white, power shirt and short brown hair looked rumpled."
Katie - "Katie, with her faded jeans and pigtails, smiled at him from the picture. Sparkling gray eyes shone mischievously as she swung on a swing. The sun glittered off her warm, golden hair, the same color as her mother's"
I have to say I was in love with Kristen as soon as I started to read Protecting Katie. She is such a real character that you believe in her the entire time. You want her to have her happily ever after but you understand why she is afraid of it. You completely understand why she does what she does in the book, and you want to cry with her and be happy for her, kind-of like your best friend. She is torn between believing what her head is telling her and what her heart is telling her. Morgan, well he acts like an ass and you want to hate him, but then you realize why he is the way he is. If you are a parent, you understand why he needs to protect Katie, why he would fight till the end for her, I mean she is a 8 year old little girl, who wouldn't fight for her. Then Kristen changes his plans and he is unsure what to do. Then there is Jeff, he is all business. You understand quickly what is truly important to him, and who is just a pawn in his sad game. All of these characters are written with such depth that you want to love them or hate them, and the story is believable, it is so real and yet so perfect too. This is the first book I have read by H. D Thomson, but it will not be the last!!
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
I found myself reading Protecting Katie by accident, but I have to say the mistake wasn’t so bad. Going into Protecting Katie I was a tad skeptical only because the blurb didn’t exactly speak to me. After some self debate I decided to go outside of my literature norm.
I do want to go on record and say that heroine Kristen...SUCKED. i did not like her one little bit. Whiny. Gullible. Unsubstantial. Irksome. Just a few choice words to described her.
My over the top moment was her flipping out on Morgan for wanting to go to the police regarding fraud, but doing such would have caused her father to be arrested too. Really. Really. he is an adult that took part in illegal activity and he KNEW it was wrong. #Icant.
Morgan is respectable. He’s man that has been betrayed and wounded by people close to hm . His now deceased wife cheated on him with his ex-business partner. End result a child that he’s now raising as his own. His number one mission is to protect her from her conning bio father Jeff.
My highlight moment for Morgan. Not only was he’s trying to protect his daughter from Jeff, but he’s also taken up the task of protecting Kristen as well.
Jeff who’s not only Kristen’s flaky fiancee, but also Morgan’s archenemy. he gets the official middle finger award. This guy only cares for his self. I can’t think of one positive thing to say about him.
While I didn’t care for a majority of the characters. Ms. Thomas did a wonderful job with Protecting Katie. She was able to maintain my attention. The man drama was the most refreshing thing I’ve experience in a while. Let me not forget that it was a simple quick read.
*This book was provided to me by the author for a honest and review.
I was introducted to H.D. Thomson through the Pure Romance book bundle and have truely enjoyed this Romantic Suspense novel. I am new to suspense books, reading mostly Paranormal Romance and Contemporary NA. I will have to say I was suprised and delighted!!
H.D. Thomson is a smooth writter and keeps you thrilled and guessing. In this story Morgan Stone has a daughter he would do just about anything to protect. He is sneaky and he is a total alpha but with his daughter he is a teddy bear!! (Did I mention he was rich and handsome?) When Kati's bio-dad decideds to show up and stir up the happy home, Morgan Stone decides to stir up Jeff's "happy home". Little does he know that by doing so he will meet Kristen St. John and other things begin to stir. FEELINGS!!!
The book was written very well and the characters lept off the page. I totally wanted to kick Jeff for being such a Tyrant and a looser, BUT I found that Kristen was a strong and level headed main character. A perfect match for Morgan!!! (Did I mention he was rich and handsome?)
Who's lies will she believe? Where will she end up!! I thought it would be predictable but it was not!! I liked that a lot about the book!! I do want more so I need to go a hunting for more of her books!!!
H.D. Thomson you get 4 Stars from me! I tip my #NerdGirl hat to you!!

I can not think of one fault in this story. I'm seriously trying to think through my reviews with a more critical eye here of late, but for the life of me, I absolutely enjoyed reading Protecting Katie by H D Thompson. Characters were well developed, the Storyline smooth and intriguing, and the writing was paced really well.
The book is a suspenseful romance. This reader became instantly involved in the motivation behind the characters' behavior and I couldn't read fast enough to figure it all out. In the end, it was Kristin who sought and found the resolution to young Katie's protection and that was one of those Aha moments! The story is short, but well worth the read!
H.D. Thomson blows the park away in her new title, Protecting Katie. I was captivated by the story from the very beginning. This story contains romance, some mystery, few steamy scenes, and a love of a man that bring Fourth Of July fireworks.
I really look forward to reading more of H.D. Thomson's work.
I read Protecting Katie, in exchange for honest review from Reading Addiction Blog Tours. I received an electronic copy of the book, to help read and review the book. I did a video review of the book on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/review/R3NQHK28...
This was a book about the true nature of a father trying to protect his daughter at any cost. Luckily in the end he found he could have it all. Good book.
