Emily has a hard home life and wishes for escape. Her wish comes true in the most unexpected way when she meets Oscar, a gorgeous guy who seems to have feelings for her. But Oscar has a he's a Prince of a Faery court. Having run away from his world and into the human one, there are royal guards looking for him...and they'll use any means to get him home, even kidnapping Emily.
**ARC RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW** Ok, so, in this we meet Emily, who hates living at home due to how she is treated. She's got a very rebellious streak and this often leads her to be punished, rather drastically by her father. On one of her rebellious outings she meets Oscar, whom she's never seen around her town, college or school before. At first she's dubious of him especially when he starts appearing as if out of nowhere. Oscar isn't of the "human" world, he's a Fae Prince who has left his realm and,for the past 2 years has been hiding away from his kin as he doesn't want to go back due to something which has happened which he doesn't agree with. What follows is an intriguing story that will have you wondering when Emily will find out and how she'll react when she does. But what Emily doesn't know is that she's different too....... H.G Lynch writes brilliantly when writing this genre, but i did feel that this one took a while to get started. Don't get me wrong i really did enjoy it but i'd have liked the action to have started sooner. Overall a good read and i am looking forward to the next book.
Emily’s world is dull and miserable. Her family seems to hate her, boys seem to find her invisible, and she feels completely alone. When the sweet, shy Oscar joins her in the park she can’t believe her luck. He’s hot, and he likes her. Just as she starts to depend on his calming influence on her life things become complicated. He isn’t what he said he was and he brings a whole heap of danger into her life. Emily is a full-blooded character. The author has a real gift for making realistic, emotionally authentic characters, and has taken the time to unwind the story, allowing us to fully appreciate what Emily goes through. The reader is inside Emily’s head, feeling what she feels and it makes for a satisfying read. The wintry feel of the setting and the faery boy’s character go hand in hand, creating a romantic and magical story. I can’t wait to read the second book in the series, and I’m looking forward to seeing if the cover is as beautiful as this one, stunning.
As I have said before, I have had the immense pleasure of reading H.G. Lynch work many, many times, and every single time I find my self extremely happy.
This is a fantastic start to the Elfhame series, there is friendship, love, adventure, danger, Fae... Emily is different, could be why she feels she is invisible, she has a hard home life, (that's putting it mildly) in walks Oscar, who has a secret, he is a Fae prince who has left his world.
I love when a book captures you, that you are drawn so completely into the world and surroundings that the author creates, Lynch has a knack for creating such vivid landscapes, and characters, I found myself in the wintry landscape swinging along beside Emily and Oscar.
Kudos on a brilliant beginning to the Elfhame series. This chilling tale is a perfect balance of reality and fantasy. I couldn't put it down. Its many twists & turns will keep you captivated. A must have for any readers library! Thank you H.G. Lynch, I am honored to be an ARC reader! I anxiously await the next novel in the series!

I got an arc for an honest review Like H.G. Lynch's other books this one has a story that will draw you in and wont let go. Emily not happy with how her homelife is wants to leave. When on one of her jaunts of rebellion she meets Oscar a Fae Prince who ran away from Court because of something that happened he didn't agree with. Emily finds out the truth of Oscar, after she almost gets kidnapped. After being taken to Elfhame, Emily gets thrown another curveball and finds out she is not entirely human. what an amazing book I cant wait to read more.
Don't you just hate when a story ends just as it starts to suck you in? Yup! Great introduction to Elfhame! Emily spends a lot of time alone; she has a family who seems to dislike her and friends who aren't' the best. Then one day she meets Oscar. Turning point to be sure. To what she's not sure. Boy meets girl/girl meets boy with a twist! Add some fun to the mix when Trey and Roman try to kidnap Emily...wont say more, but you have to read this book - an entrance to the Fae world!!
H.G. set the stage for more! I can't wait to see what awaits Emily and Oscar in the next book.
