It always happens when you least suspect it. Love. The chemistry. The pull. Even when you don’t want it to. Timing—it’s a bitch. And then you have to make a choice. Do you regret what is, or what isn’t? Because when love is involved, there’s always regret. And my story is no exception.

TITLE: Thief
AUTHOR: Chantal Fernando
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
RELEASE DATE: October 15th 2015

MY RATING: 4 DASH STARS

This author is one of my all time favourites I am so behind with her books with time restraints with my reading material that I am FINALLY getting to this after one clicking this back in October

Straight away you get those FEELS coursing through your bloodstream, you become so absorbed in the story and that's what I love most about this author is her ability to grab your attention as soon as you start reading..

THIEF: Starts off with Viola, Max (best friends since he moved next door) and Dash during their high school years so it's got that YA element to it.
I love the dynamics between the two best friends.
There's no way in hell we'll be anything but friends at any point in our lives.

Then we're introduced to Dash, who is trying to fit in with these tight two, it wasn't a smooth first meeting between Dash and Viola, but she definitely made an impact..
I haven't had a proper boyfriend before, but if i did, I'd imagine he'd look like Dashiel

This guys is blessed in the looks department. Why are jerks always hot.

Then a tragic accident rocks their foundations to the core

He's gone,
He didn't make it.

My parents are selling the house and we're moving somewhere new.

NINE YEARS LATER:

A rekindled love but like any good book it did have it's ups and downs to begin with..I loved Dash *sighs* his alpha male personality, and his fierce love for his sisters..

Even though I really really enjoyed this like a greedy bitch I just wanted more.. Even though this was a short read which is read in one sitting it's packed to the hilt with the dynamics of the three friendships and unbreakable bonds, then trying to get over the all consuming grief one would expect of losing someone close to you to eventually the re-connection between Dash and Viola..It will definitely have you racing through the pages in record speed to see how it all pans out..
Even though it started off in the early stages of YA it did progress more into the NA category once it hit the (Nine Years Later) definitely a book worth reading..

I loved this book, from beginning to end this book was perfect. Thief is sweet, sad, and hot. I wish this book was longer but only because I enjoyed it so much. The hero Dash was amazing, hot and a great person he loved his family so much and gladly sacrificed for them but when it came to Violet he was possessive and all in. Violet was smart and stubborn and kind. Reading this book I thought maybe it was a YA book but soon realized the author was just building an amazing history for this doubly amazing couple. This book starts with both Dash and Violet in high school, then we are taken nine years into the future. I do wish a situation/side character was explained more because it was interesting and I would have liked to have learned more. I can't recommend this book enough this was a quick read but one I am so happy I found.

Thief is a novella, which features the trials and tribulations of the relationship between Viola & Dash over a long period of time. A second chance romance.

I'm not entirely sure if this is a spin off from another Fernando book, as there's a lot of characters added towards the latter half that makes it feel like it might be.

The story wasn't exactly hot, or romantic, it felt more like it was about them getting together as a couple. It's a drama fuelled little read about friendship, grief and eventually, love.

Overall I enjoyed it. I was impressed by it's effect for a small book. I liked the main characters, as well as seeing them overcome their relationship & life struggles.

Spoilers for my reading buddies who don't like cheating:

4 stars for story-filled YA/NA crossover, with likeable, but not loveable characters and storyline.

Well, I made it to 50% and that's when I just couldn't read it anymore. The story started out with high hopes but soon the immaturity was too much to take. Also, the writing style bothered me a bit. The story didn't flow as smooth as I would loved it to. So DNF at 50%. :(

"He grins and lifts up my top. “You’re mine now, Vi. All mine.” I shut my eyes as he kisses down my stomach, and whisper back, “I always was."

God I really hate doing this but this book is very dull. There's barely anything going on in it, it's really stale. Which is a shame because some of Chantal's books are really good.

I mean sure there's that drama in the first half over but then it got boring. And by the end of the book there's a OW drama and then we suddenly found out that It was a waste. And then they had a mini cold war with each other but their problem was resolved pretty quickly.

It's like the author put up a drama first half, nothing in between and piled up drama in the end. I'm sure it worked for some but it didn't work for me. I feel very unsatisfied right now.

Cute story of second chances when Time becomes the enemy of true love.
My first book by Chantal and I quite liked her writing style. it starts as a High School crush and fate intervenes at inappropriate times to throw roadblocks in the path of their happiness.
"When we were teenagers, the timing wasn’t right. Right people, right chemistry, wrong timing."

description

Dashiell Edwards of Violet eyes captures the heart of Viola and the spark sets their tender feelings alight. They take tentative steps into the infatuation world and start weaving promises in their dreams when everything gets snatched away abruptly!!

description

There's a twist pretty early one that I DID NOT SEE COMING!!
It almost took my breath away.
It's sweet, tender, soft and devoid of any major upheavals, though there were provisions and spaces for it.
Nevertheless a fast paced, sexy read that I enjoyed

I like it when you read a book and then characters from other books show up.

I didn't recognize Dash as Dash from "Maybe this time" but when Xander, Summer and others showed up I knew it was him!

I honestly didn't think I'd love this book as much as I did. This isn't my first book by Chantal, and I haven't had any major complaints about her books in general. They're always easy to follow and short enough to stay engaged easily. Thief was no different. It's novella length, but there's so much character development and world building in it that it feels like a full length book!

We immediately meet Max and Viola. They've been best friends for most of their lives, and people often assume they're together... but they're JUST friends. That friendship never develops into more through the whole book,w hich is nice to see. We meet Dash soon after as he's scolding his little sister to go home and change out of a little skirt. Viola overhears and immediately cuts in to help her, assuming it's her boyfriend, not brother. Dash never lets her live that down, that's for sure, haha.

I wont' give away all the of the storyline, but something sad happens that intereferes with Viola and Dash's reltationship and results in Viola moving away with family. Later in the book, Viola and Dash find each other again and have a second chance for their romance.

This was such a cute novel, and I can't wait to read more by Chantal.

The first few chapters of this book were amazing and the rest were great. After the shocking twist half way through I wasn't sure which direction the story would take. I was happy with the way it went and it had a sweet ending.

A short story and there was not much going on.

The idea for a love story was quite nice and promising but there was no place (and/or skills) for more believable changes/events.

The beginning was good (high school part) but the next part was like Chantal Fernando wanted to finish it quickly but on the other hand, like she didn't want to make it too simple (and the complications made the story a bit queer).

Wow I absolutely loved this. Ms. Fernando has done it again, pulled me in and made me want more, more, more. Dash and Viola are meant to be together since they meet. Through ups and down and a tragic loss they meet again as adults and find their way to their HEA.

I loved the beginning of this book and honestly thought it would be the best in the series, but again the ending was rushed. I don't really get why some of the books in this series were written as novellas, as the characters in all of them had lots of potential but were not given the time and space to develop. Just when it starts being interesting it just ends. It was very frustrating as I can see there is a great story in there which has just not been realised.

This book was a short read, a little predictible at times and really brushed over everything that was important between the characters for them to achieve their happily ever after. Although there was plenty about characters not important to the main storyline.
It jumps around so much that you can't see the characters grow or develop into individuals, let alone a couple. High school. Bam. 9 years later. Bam. 5 years later. Bam...that pretty much sums it up really. So I guess, like this book, this review is going to be short too.

Seventeen year old Viola meets Dashiel, or Dash, Edwards on the first day of the school year. Not the best meeting for sure but things slowly improve.

From deep friendship to passionate romance, this book explores different momentous relationships. I have to admit I was happily reading along then bam! Disaster struck and my heart about broke. You definitely feel a range of emotions throughout this story; happiness and excitement as well as sadness and disappointment.

This is the first story by this author that I have read but I have enjoyed this fast paced, easy to read short book so will be reading more in the future, especially as I want to read more about the great group of friends.

Possible spoilers.

Glad this did not turn into a love triangle but sad for the reason why. After 9 years Dash and Vi are back together after a tragedy hit their budding relationship. I loved how the admit they had both been scared to reach out after so long.

Dash is the man any glad he understood and did not get mad why she kept shopping He felt the same way about the cashier.

The part that disappointed me was that it was another 5 years for the true HEA. I don’t feel like it would have been that long. I would have thought months not years.

Over all it was a cute story.

This novella started off super strong but went downhill pretty sharply once it moved from the past and into the present.

It starts off in the past and shows you the friendship between Vi and Max and how Dash came to be part of their friendship. It shows how the relationship between Vi and Dash started and how the loss of Max both sealed them together forever and simultaneously tore them apart.
Considering this novella is around 100 pages, it was very well done.

And then it moved into the present and I had such hopes for the reunion of Vi and Dash as adults and was bitterly disappointed.

For a start, Dash had a girlfriend who he immediately dumped upon the return of Viola. Nice and classy. Real prince there. I think it was supposed to highlight his devotion to Vi but it was an epic dick move that devalued him in my eyes.
Then, as if there hasn't been enough drama, Fernando manages to pack in some more with over the top reactions and misunderstandings.

It was like the first half of the book was meant to be part of something so much bigger but then the author thought, fuck it, I'm gonna cut this short and battered out a reunion and ending that took place in the blink of an eye, was riddled with unresolved issues and painful to read.

So, yeah. If you're new to the author, I don't think I'd start here. Her novellas - the two I've read - have been very weak compared to her full-length novels so I'd suggest going for one of those.

No tak tohle...

Good read.

Little quick read that had its good moments. Loved the story line but I just think it wasn’t loving up to its potential. Could’ve been so much better but I did enjoy it nonetheless.
