Have you ever based your decision to read a book solely on the title? That’s what I did for “Healing Danger”. I was curious to know how these two words fit together. As I delved deeper and deeper into the pages of the book, the connection became very clear. I can’t go into details where this is concerned without giving the story away, so you will have to read it for yourself to see what I am talking about.
Everything about this book was intriguing, from the prologue to the epilogue. The prologue grabbed my attention and made me want to go further. It set the pace for the remainder of the story. The epilogue made me eager to get my hands on the next book in the series.
“Healing Danger” is the type of story that will keep you glued to the pages and have you on the edge of your seat. It was suspenseful with a bit of a creepy factor. There was a deranged killer on the loose and added to that was a deadly cult that was trying to recruit persons with special abilities. There was never a dull moment in this book. There were several events in this story, that I never saw coming.

The characters were a treat. I particularly liked how the author highlighted the secondary characters and their possible love connections. In doing this she whetted my appetite for more of them and I can’t wait to read their stories. I thought the main characters, Lauren and Dane were a dynamic couple. These two had a history. They had met through mutual friends and developed a friendship. Eventually their feelings began to move beyond the realms of friendship, however, fear and uncertainty led to them taking different paths. The loss of a dear and mutual friend will see these two reunited. At this point, they will discover that their feelings for each other were as strong as ever. However, as fate would have it, they would encounter obstacles that would put their love to the test.

I found the romance to be hot with a hint of sweetness. I thought that Lauren and Dane complemented each other well. While following them on their journey I came to understand why they both acted the way they did. They had their share of past issues both physical and emotional which at times reared its ugly head. During this time, they would doubt their capacity to love each other. Dane had difficulty believing that he could love Lauren and keep her safe at the same time. This caused him to behave irrationally at times which led to driving a wedge between them. I was happy to see them able to eventually move past these issues and cease their happiness.

This was my first time reading Maddie Wade’s work and I enjoyed every thrilling moment. This is the first book in the Fortis Security series. It is a great start to what I believe will be thrilling and exciting series. I can’t wait to see what next Ms. Wade has in store for her readers.

In the course of reading this book, I swung back and forth with my feelings for it. I struggled, to begin with, mostly because it seemed very much like a British author, trying to write an American book. I'd been quite excited about the idea of a book with a UK setting, being British myself, but there was nothing that really marked this out as being set there. Once I was into the story, it irritated me less and I tended not to notice what I saw as 'Americanisms' but I really think that the author missed a bit of an opportunity there.
There was a lot going on in the story and I enjoyed the growing relationship between Dane and Lauren. Overall I enjoyed it, but there were a few things that let it down and stopped it from being a really great read. Some of the dialogue needed a bit of extra work, which may get better in later books. It also made use of quite a few cliche's, with the characters being very much of a 'type' in this kind of book, with nothing to lift them out of the ordinary. I also thought the whole
I'm not sure if I'd read another one in the series, possibly, as I did like the characters and I did enjoy the book overall, despite the little irritations. Having said that, something that was a bit much was the epilogue, it seemed to go on forever. It's all very well and good trying to get people excited about your next book, but I think that going with the 'less is more' approach would have worked better.
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

You will laugh, cry, get mad, go what the H*** plus it was Hot and steamy!!!!

Loved it! I truly enjoyed reading it, did not want to set it down for a moment. It was a twister, the storyline always continued adding new things to it, adding new characters. The storyline itself kept growing and expanding it never got boring. When you thought you knew what was going to happen, she changed things up. Dane & Lauren were very cute together. It was not an overnight romance and they made mistakes along the way. I loved the character she gave Lauren. Like most women, we have moments of weakness and then we learn from it and become stronger for it. We fight back or fight our way through. I can't wait to see where the rest of the stories develop for the boy's at Fortis or the comedy that comes with it.

The potential in the storyline is what kept me reading this book, but ultimately it became a chore to finish. The intriguing "superhuman gifts" merely serve as the motive behind the plot, nothing more, and the dialogue was like a B-movie script. The female protagonist was okay but truly the only differing characteristic in the male characters are their names. Maybe her other books are better but this one being my first, I'm hesitant to read another, which is why I disliked the cliffhanger ending.

This was a pretty good read.if your a fan of loyal soldier books and all that implies it's not a bad experience. Dane is part of the fortis team and has a thing for our h, Lauren. The twist I like to this book is Lauren was swept away from an abusive, controlling father by her mom as a child. More than that are the reasons her mother wanted to protect her daughter. She had the gift of healing hands.

I won't tell any more with that plot but know it goes deeper than that. I love that plot line but feel in book 1 the author did not play with that much. I feel it could have went further but each book is a different couple, you know the drill, there just wasn't enough time to dwell on just her and her history. It is a major plot of a bigger theme that expands in further books I believe and for that reason it would have been fun, IMO, to give more detail.

The book as it is written is still a good read. Lauren is beyond thrilled to see Dane returns her feelings. There are some bumps along the way as well as a family reunion of sorts. It's not a clean book but it isn't page after page of Sex either. The end of the book gives you a prequel to book 2 that contains a bisexual, manipulator who has a thing for Nate. You meet him in this book and follow his journey throughout and by books end find a connection to the main nemesis from this book.

The plot in book 2 doesn't appeal to me even though I enjoyed reading about him in this book it's not something I'm into but Lucy and Jace's story peaks my interest. Lucy is Dane's sister and a member of the team. Jace has fought the attraction to Lucy and with his final tour of duty he promises when he comes home he plans to make her his. Enjoy!

An enjoyable read, but I wouldn’t say it’s a standalone book, although it is a HEA for the main characters, a few questions are left unanswered, so it’s probably best to read the full series.

This book gets 3.5 stars from me, I wanted to give it 4 but I just couldn't based on how I rate books. Now, first of all I will say I really did enjoy the storyline and will most definitely read the other books in this series because it did hold my interest. My "issue" is this, it was very repetitive throughout...and specifically I noted on one particular page for example, that the same point was made 3 times. I would have enjoyed it more if it had been said and moved on from. I feel like it made the book longer than it had to be because of it and it took a little away from it for me. Also, while the sexy times were hot, she hit some of my trigger words that make me shudder...but that's just me and my personal feelings on those words! Again, most definitely a book worth reading but could have used some more editing/spelling error correction. The story itself was full of intrigue and suspense and was special in its uniqueness!

Let me just first say, I don't normally read suspense books, but this one hooked me in from the prologue. It had suspense, romance and intrigue. Dane and Lauren's relationship was quick, but full of spark. Lauren is a fire cracker that is a brave female character. Dane is......... drool worthy. The sex scenes were good, but not over the top. It felt natural and classy, not trashy. I'm interested in seeing where this series go. Especially with the divine watchers still actively watching.

Now onto the next book.

Overall, this was an enjoyable book. I liked the plot as well as the characters, particularly Lauren and Dane. There were a few issues, but I believe this was the author's first book so I tend to be a bit more forgiving. The dialogue felt awkward at times, and the jumping around to various characters got confusing and felt unnecessary. This book could have really benefited from a proofreader. That being said, I really did like the Fortis Security world and am really interested to see what happens with the other characters!

The authors note at the start implies that this is set in the U.K., but it doesn’t have that ‘feel’ of being British. It’s swamped with adverbs and unnecessary descriptions and random characters and doesn't have any 'flow' to the story.

When I started reading Chapter 3 only to find it was written from the 'bad guy's pov' (in an effort to show the reader what a thoroughly rotten, evil psychopath he was) I gave up.

Healing Danger is the first book in the Fortis Security Series by Maddie Wade. It is full of action, adventure, thrills, intrigue, drama, suspense, mystery, sizzle, romance, and danger. As this series is well and truly established, it was great to go back and to where it all ‘began’. I have enjoyed this series immensely and can always count on Ms. Wade to deliver ‘the goods’ and keep me entertained right through till the end. It was interesting to look back and see how the series/story, and even Ms. Wade’s style, has evolved along the way.
Lauren and Dane are really great characters and it was easy to get invested in them and the outcome of their story. They are fully developed individuals, with complex personalities and circumstances. Dane is the Team Leader of Fortis who will do everything in his power to protect Lauren from the evil that hunts her.
The author held the tension, suspense and intrigue at an extremely high level throughout the book- as well as keeping me guessing most of the way through- she added twists and surprising development that I didn’t see coming, which ramped the excitement up a few notches.
So, if you haven’t read the Fortis security series yet, what are you waiting for? It’s well worth the read!

Thank you, Ms. Wade!

This story had everything, romance, murder and mayhem. There was a lot going on but I loved it and I thought it worked really well, it all fit together well around Lauren and Dane's story and was balanced. I liked the paranormal angle and the fact that female characters were strong minded and interesting.

This is the first in the Fortis series and although it can be read as a standalone I was pulled into the Fortis world and clicked buy on the second book before i'd finished reading this one.

This book is currently available for free on amazon, so you have nothing to lose if you give it a try.

Healing Danger is the debut novel of new to me author, Maddie Wade. This novel is a promising start to a series for a first-time author. It's a fun, easy read with relate-able characters and some uncomplicated suspense thrown in.

Ms Wade does a very credible job of building a world and setting up this first book as the foundation for a broader series while introducing all the players in it. The good guys - the heroes and heroines of each subsequent book, and the bad guys - the ultimate big bad who are out to rule the world. Of course, all the bad guys are delusional, but isn't that almost always the case with megalomaniacs? The slight paranormal overtones of the story also adds some interest the plot and I love anything paranormal.

I felt the story for Healing Danger itself was mostly a set up for subsequent books although we do see the romance develop between Lauren and Dane. Their relationship does develop rather quickly but it's understandable considering a previous history they had shared. But the best part of the story for me were all the other characters who were introduced as well as the subsequent chapters of the story after the bad guys got caught and that part of the story wrapped up. I really enjoyed further insights into the lives of the Fortis team. I'm glad the book itself didn't end when the bad guy got caught, and Lauren and Dane got their happy ending. I liked seeing what happened "after" the happy ending.

Lauren is a special lady. She has a gift that sets her apart from others which she keeps a closely guarded secret. However, she's also a lady with a target on her back and she's coveted by a group of terrible people who seek to use her gift for their benefit. Lauren also is a little gun shy when it comes to men since she's had a bad experience based on poor judgment of a previous man in her life. She's working to overcome her insecurities when Dane comes back into her life. It's a big step for her to trust again and she places that trust in Dane both because of their past history and how she feels about him now. Lauren is very likable. She's nice, kind, compassionate and very brave. She shows her strength is surviving a past abusive relationship and facing the new challenges coming her way as she is stalked by the bad guys. Even though Lauren was very nice and likable, she didn't invoke any strong feelings in me until towards the end when she does something incredibly brave to protect Dane but also saves the day. I don't think I would have had the guts to do what she did. It was an epic move on her part.

As for Dane, he's your typical protective, alpha male, military type. The thing I liked about Ms Wade's handling of Dane was she made him vulnerable. We often got to see inside Dane's head and got his POV and his feelings. I loved his internal dialogue as he struggled with his feelings for Lauren vs his need to protect her from harm. It made Dane a very approachable hero for me.

As a debut novel, I did have a few gripes with the book. I do not know what version of the book I ended up with but I hope it's not the final version since it was full of grammatical errors. If it was the final version, the book was very poorly edited. I'm not one to normally pick up on that since I do enough critiquing of early drafts, beta reading, reading ARCs, etc., that I've taught myself to overlook most errors but this book had so many of them, it was enough to make me take note and at times even throw me out of the story.

There was some use of colloquialism which I didn't think was appropriate in the writing, words like "gonna" and "kinda". Words like that are okay for everyday conversation but not for a book.

The book is set in the UK. Ms Wade mentions names of towns and places in the story but I would have liked a little more description of the places she mentioned. Nothing overly long but a small description to identify the town, it's location relative to perhaps a bigger, more well-known UK town or city would have been nice. As it was, I pretty much drew a blank on all the places she mentioned and simply assumed they were towns in the UK somewhere. I really did not have a picture in my head of what the town Lauren and Dane lived in looked like. From a location perspective, everything seemed somewhat murky to me and I'm fairly familiar with some of the bigger and more well known places in the UK having visited the country several times.

The operational aspects and technical terminology used for the suspense aspects of the story were also quite loosely formed. I felt this part of the story needed more in depth research. There were some parts of the story where bugs were being planted and gadgets were being used which seemed to be rather convenient and not properly explained. I would have liked those parts to be a lot more believable.

And finally, I did think the head hopping between the various bad guys (there were a few) and back to Lauren and Dane got a little confusing at times. I understand Ms Wade was attempting to set up the bad guys back stories and their motivations but I found at times it made the story somewhat disjointed.

Overall though, I thought it was a great effort and I'm looking forward to reading Nick and Skye's story next.

Lauren never dreamt that she would wind up being chased by a group of maniacs who want to “cleanse” the world. She also never thought she’d wind up with her perfect man. Both happen in this novel by Maddie Wade and it makes for an exciting, hot, and sometimes intense read.

The Review:

I really enjoyed watching the cat-and-mouse romance that developed between the main two protagonists, Lauren and Dane. It flourishes all at the right time and it leaves you wanting more. The book does jump around perspectives, but I enjoy this. I think it gives you a clearer picture of what is going on. I think the ending was extended out at the end to give some closure, but I felt like maybe it was little too long. I can’t say much about that because it quickly recovered with the ending. I won’t give anything away, but seriously? What a shock!

There are quite a lot of testosterone filled male characters, all protective and wanting to be in control. I wish we could’ve seen the other side to men, characters that were different because at some point I felt like all of the men had Dane-like qualities. But that’s okay, it’s easy to do and didn’t make the story any less interesting.

Obviously, my least favorite character is Lauren’s father. From the get go, you’re introduced to his crazy obsession with power that becomes abusive. He’s easy not to like. You shouldn’t like him. Lucy, however, is my absolute favorite! She is strong, confident, happy, and genuinely a good person. At the beginning you aren’t given a lot of description of what she looks like so I always imagined her as Jordana Brewster from Chuck:

So I was a little surprised when it turns out she has wavy hair (although Jordana totally rocks that look, too).

Who did I see Dane as then? I don’t think I had anyone in particular in mind, just imagine tall, dark, and handsome and I think you’ve got your bases with Dane covered.

But I can tell you one thing. Adam Rodriguez would definitely be playing Nate!

I was looking for a lighthearted, pick-me-up kind of book and that’s exactly what I got. I loved how Wade dropped twists at the right time to keep you guessing. When bad things happened I really did get invested in these characters. The close, family-like ties between these characters will have you cheering them on to victory. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a steamy read!

New Maddie Wade reader here. And I must say, I am so excited to keep reading the next books to find out what happens with the rest of the Fortis Security team. This story was about Lauren and Dane. They have a bond they started to share before Lauren's ex cause them to stop talking. Fast forward a few years and the death of Lauren's best friend brings Dane back into her life fully again. And what a ride these two go from there. It was a great book, with twists I didn't see coming and I love getting the insight from other POV's, The only thing I struggled with was the British terms for the different military ranks and police. Definitely gonna go one click the other books in the Fortis Security Series.

4,25 stars for Lauren and Dane

Wow, I am so lucky I found this author. With the mix of security, black ops, a secret organization trying to take over the world and a good dose of paranormal abilities, I am in heaven.

This couple got a second chance. First they bantered via email with each other but it was broken off by circumstances. Now Lauren needs protection and it's not one but at least two villains that have their eyes on her. Dane is torn between keeping his distance and professional stance and keeping her all to himself.

It's hot, all the security guys and girls, the danger, the emotions. I want mooooooore.

Great Roller Coaster Ride! I really enjoyed the story of Dane and Lauren. The story is action packed, and I liked how the love story of the two protagonists was woven with the suspense and the danger. Healing Danger (Fortis Security #1) by Maddie Wade was a okay read that kept my attention and followed at a good pace.

I got some mixed feelings going on with this one. I have read one other book in this series, and I did have some mix feelings about that as well. I'm not going to get into that. This story, this tale, was unique to say the least. I liked the overall plot and I loved the paranormal element. It added a little something extra and also adds a darkened subplot, that will be the driving force of this series.

What got me all mixed up is the love plot and how it felt a little off and forced. For the first book in a series, it read more like a continuation, things felt missed, especially between Lauren and Dane. Yes they do have history before the start of this story, more along the lines of long-distance friends. Dane was deployed (I don't know a few years back, before this story starts, not sure of that timeline) and Lauren wrote him, which I might add wasn't mention by Lauren (that he was deployed), so at first I thought they were chatting over a work like network.. nope.. not the case; so that was a tab bit confusing at first. They why they were tossed together was, just, anticlimactic. Now don't get me wrong there is plenty of action and drama in this book, just not in regards to the love plot. (Not talking about the smut scenes.)

As for the mystery, and the stalker that's trying to off Lauren, that was interesting, engaging and great. I was fully immersed in that storyline, and it's what kept me reading. It made up for the flatness of the loveline, and really brought this story to life. It also pulled this read into that 4 star spot. I was a little on the fence there. But I have to warn you, this story ends on a cliff-hanger. As in, the major who-ha, is cut and now I have to get the second book to see what the hell is going on.

So yeah, overall this book is a pretty decent read. I liked almost everything, and I will be continuing this series. So please take my stamp of approval, and my high recommendation.

Happy Reading

Healing Danger: A Fortis Security Novel Book 1 (Fortis Security Series)
By: Maddie Wade
5 out of 5 stars

The story Healing Danger: A Fortis Security Novel Book 1 (Fortis Security Series) by Maddie Wade is a romantic suspense book. It is a story that hooked me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. It is a book with action, mystery, and danger. It is a page-turner that at times had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the characters of Dane Bennett and Lauren Cassidy. Lauren is a woman who is strong, intelligent, and independent. She also has found herself a current target by someone who is unknown. Who is targeting Lauren? How much danger is she in and who will protect her? Dane is the team leader at Fortis. His job includes protecting others. When Lauren becomes a target, he steps up in order to keep her safe and protected. These two were once very good friends before another man came into her life. Will these two find themselves with a second chance at a relationship? Dane is an alpha male who at times doesn’t communicate well. This causes friction and hurt feelings. Will Dane be able to keep Lauren safe and mend the hurt that he has caused? Both Dane and Lauren find they have a passion between them. There is a chemistry that can’t be denied. Will they find happiness together? Will they get an HEA? Will Dane and the Fortis team find the one who is after Lauren and stop any evil plans that may be in the works? Read this story to find out. I enjoyed reading about the additional characters that are introduced in the book. Both the way that they interacted with each other and also with Dane and Lauren. This is an amazing story with wonderful characters. Highly recommended reading.

Healing Danger is the amazing first book in the Fortis Security series by Maddie Wade. All books in this series can be read as a stand-alone although there is a continuing story running throughout and the series centres around the same group of characters. I however, would recommend that you read the whole series, purely because it is a fantastic series with truly outstanding characters. I first discovered this series by reading books 6 and 7 in the series. I loved these so much that I just had to go back to the beginning and see where it all began.
Healing Danger is our first insight into the world of Fortis Security. The Fortis team is made up of ex SAS and Black Ops soldiers with amazing talents. This team is much more than just your ordinary security company though.
This book centres around Fortis employee Dane Bennet and school teacher Lauren Cassidy. Lauren’s best friend Claire, who is the wife of Fortis employee Daniel has recently been murdered. In trying to find Claire’s killer, Lauren’s life is in danger as all suspicions lead to Lauren’s evil father who Lauren and her mother had escaped from when Lauren was a child. Lauren has a gift and her father wants her back to be part of his plan to rid the world of all the weak people and start a new world.
Lauren and Dane have both secretly had feeling for each other for years and now that Dane is trying to protect her their relationship moves to a whole new level, especially when Lauren is kidnapped.
This book is full of mystery and suspense that will keep you gripped from the beginning to the very end and also the added element of romance which makes this book a fantastic read. Thoroughly recommend.

A pleasant surprise for how good it was

Having read quite a few books by both British and Aussie authors in used to words being spelled different than in the U.S. a few of the reviews mentioned that it was distracting. But I have to say that Healing Danger was a surprise because I really liked it plus I now have a new author to read so in my case it's a win-win.

Lauren Cassidy has special healing capabilities that a cult group would kill to have even her best friend who refused to join them. After Claire's death she asks Dane Bennett who is part of the Fortis Security group in finding who has been stalking her. Little does she know that her mother kept a secret when they ran away from the cult when Lauren was a child. It Will take all hands on deck as well and s SAS black op team to find her when she's kidnapped. Can Dane find her in time before she's killed?

Dane Bennett was raised by his single father after his mother death and after several years in SAS he decides to join Fortis Security as there isn't the drama and politics that can be so frustrating. He's known Lauren for years and has finally decided he's going to let her know that he's attracted to hee. When break ins and car chases suddenly start happening he'll do whatever it takes to keep Lauren safe using the combined skills of all his company and friends.

I really enjoyed reading Healing Danger and can't wait to read Skye and Nate's story next.

Healing Danger : A Fortis Security Novel Book 1 (Fortis Security Series)

By Maddie Wade

5 +++++++++++ Stars

LOVE LOVE LOVE!! I've read the majority of this series and although they can be read as standalones I am so happy I finally went back and read book 1. This is absolutely one of my favorite series ever, and this author is in my top 10 all time favorites.

Dane and Lauren have been one of my favorite couples in this series and I'm so glad to finally have their story. I love how all of this came together and she also has a way of leaving me normally with cliffhangers that make me want to scream but in this series she doesn't do that...What she DOES do is give you little snippets of what is to come all wound up in the ending of these books and just when you think YES no cliffhanger...BOOM she knocks you in the head with needing the next book like right now. Sorry i know that's all a bit dramatic but its fact! LOL

Fortis Security and all that are involved with it are simply amazing, i finally got to read about all of the characters I have grown to love and see how this all began. It was kind of fun reading them out of order but now that I've read book 1, I will continue and reread every one of them again.

If you have not read anything by Maddie Wade first What are you waiting for? And Second start right here you will fall in love!!

I found the beginning of the book to be confusing. I was having a difficult time keeping up with the characters. Just when I started to get a handle on things, other people would be introduced and I would have to figure out how the new characters interacted with the existing characters.

Dane and Lauren were slightly irritating. I have no patience when the professional H can't seem to control either his behavior or his emotions because he is so enamored with the h.

I didn't think there was much buildup of suspense. The Lauren's father plot became intermingled with the Claire's death plot, with was tied up with the creepy stalker plot, which included the demented revenge plot, and somewhere in there, was the abusive parent to one child, but I have to kidnap the other child. Then, throw in the whole special gifts scenario into the pot. Let's not forget the Eidolon crew either.

Bottom line. It was all too much. I thought this book had the potential to be a good read. There was so much to try and figure out, the whole thing fell short. I would rate this at 2.5 stars.

There were a number of things I left out of my rant. I won't let this stop me from moving forward. I am interested in Lucy and Jace, Skye and Nate, Zach, Lizzie, Daniel and Paige to name a few.
