In a bleak and apocalyptic future, where the Zyrgin Warriors are getting ready to conquer Earth, Marcie is sent to infiltrate the alien stronghold in the Rocky Mountains, only to be betrayed by her own people. Instead of stealing the alien’s technology and accomplishing her mission of causing mayhem and destruction among them, she is captured by Larz, an arrogant alien, who wreaks havoc with her heart when he insists that she will be his woman. Still, he may no longer want her when he discovers her secrets…ones she doesn’t even know she has.
First of all, I've read the first two books in this series and I really enjoyed them. This book was no different. I think this book COULD be read as a stand-alone but I really don't recommend it. There's a lot of world building that went on in the first two books and things that happen in THIS book won't really mean much if you start here.
OMFG Marcie was AWFUL!!!!!!!! She was so bad that I almost quit the book. I was thinking, "What the hell was the author thinking?!? This character can't come back from this!" and boy, was I wrong!!! LOL! I'm SO glad I didn't quit. So to anyone reading this book - stick with it! It's worth it! There's not a ton I want to say about Marcie. She was introduced at the end of the last book and she's even worse here. But she's not always like that and I promise that she will grow on you.
Poor Larz! He goes through so much for Marcie and I was sure she wasn't going to be worth it. But he sticks with her and I was glad he did. This is the first book where I felt like there's some kind of instinctual thing going on with the Zyrgin warriors and their mate selection. To me, it felt like there were definitely times that Larz wished he wasn't attracted to/obsessed with Marcie. I liked that and I really liked how loyal Larz was to her, no matter what. But I also liked that he didn't let her just run roughshod over him either.
The Sexy Time was hot and plentiful, just like in all the other books. Larz is an alien so it was a little tough to relate to him. And that's why I feel it's important to have read at least one of the other books. A lot of things he does won't make sense to a new reader. Anyway, Marcie goes through a dramatic change or two and it was awful and awesome to be on that journey with her. I loved seeing her changes through Larz's eyes and to see his distrust turn into trust.
I loved this book a lot and I would highly recommend this book. This is definitely a sci-fi romance. The Zyrgins are human-like but there are some physical differences, such as the ridge on their heads and the color of their skin. I know that might turn some readers off but I beg you - don't write this series off as "just" sci-fi. The Zyrgins are hot and it's so much fun watching them try to adapt to their earth mates, even if they'd never admit that they would be the ones doing the adapting. There are a lot of moments of surprising humor and I really feel like a lot of readers would get a kick out of this book and this entire series. Give it a chance!!!!
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This can be read as a stand alone book, you may not get the depth of the other characters and what they have suffered to quite the extent of reading the other books, but i read this one quite happily and the author helps fill in the blanks where required.
Marcie, Maeve or Margaret as she ends up calling hers self has been in previous books and is a nasty character, however it is not too long into the book before she totally changed changes.
The Alien race has been well thought out and we get a good idea of who they are and what they wish to accomplish on Earth. We get a good detailed description of what they look like and their mannerisms.
It was a good book and i will certainly end up reading the first two books and looking more into this author.
Marcie is a spy sent to infiltrate the stronghold of the “Lizard-man” aliens who are colonizing earth because the “breeders” on their home planet have died off. Marcie is a sharp-tongued, nasty woman who has betrayed her friends. It’s inexplicable why anyone would like her, but Larz, one of the aliens DOES, and he claims her as his breeder. As a point of honor, he defends her at great cost to himself. Even the other aliens are baffled. Earth is filled with potential breeders, why her?
The reader never finds out what it is about her that attracts Larz, and that, I feel, is a flaw in the story. He should have seen something good in her—because there were other women available, and it made no sense that he would want her. But, the reader does come to learn that Marcie has been victimized, exploited, and forced to do the things she does. The hated woman everyone sees is not who she really is, and by the end of the book, there is redemption and her true personality is revealed.
Alien Betrayed is a science fiction romance that does not follow the typical formula: you have an unlikable heroine (although I liked her by the end) and an alien hero who is less humanoid than the norm for the genre. But I found it to be a riveting story, and I pretty much devoured it. I liked the strength and honor of the hero very much. He stood by Marcie even when he didn’t trust her. It was very noble, and I liked that a lot.
Alien Betrayed is the third book in the series, but I stumbled across it and read it first. At the writing of this review, I just finished reading book 1 (Alien Mine), and I just bought book 2 (Alien Under Cover). It’s rare that I read all the books in a series, bam, bam, bam, but the story is so compelling, I couldn’t put it down. Having read the first one, I recommend you read the series in order. You can read Alien Betrayed as a standalone, but you will get more background as to how the aliens came to earth if you start with book 1.
If you likely science fiction romance, I highly recommend Alien Betrayed.
Alien Betrayed by Marie Dry is an interesting sci-fi novel. It tells the story of an alien race, the Zyrgins who defeat earth and claim the women for themselves. The Zyrgins hostile takeover of earth creates tension and so the humans send in spies in disguise to infiltrate the alien defenses. Marcie is one of those spies. However, when she is captured by Larz—a Zyrgin warrior—things get pretty dicey. Larz claims her as his and overtime she grows to care for this alien warrior. But Marcie has her secrets. What would happen if Larz finds out?
I was drawn to this book because I loved the idea of a “destined mate” trope turned on its head – what happens when a non-human’s destined mate is a complete asshole? I loved the almost helpless way that Larz was drawn to Marcie, even when he did not really like it. While a titular “Zyrgin Warrior” with the expected badass bona fides, Larz had a refreshing lack of viciousness, a quiet depth of devotion, and got in a few sarcastic lines. (This book actually has quite a few funny moments.)
It was heart-melting/heart-breaking how much he was willing to sacrifice for Marcie, but I liked that he wasn’t a saint, either; in the end, he . Marie Dry is an excellent writer who has a talent for voices; I was really happy to discover that her Zyrgin characters not only sounded different from humans, but from each other. There were a couple of minor characters (the doctor especially comes to mind) who, despite brief appearances, seem to have fully-developed presences on the page.
In the last 20% of this book, when , the hero's characterization took a weird and unpleasant turn.
Despite all this, I really liked the Larz/Marcie relationship, and I so wish there were more books just focusing on them. I stayed up till 2 in the morning finishing this book.
Every one of these books made me feel a little uncomfortable while reading, but for some damn reason, I keep coming back to them. However, It took me longer than usual to pick this one up and the only explanation I have for that is...it weirds me out to think of Larc hooking up with someone. I mean, he was only born like a year ago, or something. Just once again shows you how alien like these aliens are. The book surprised me and in a good way, too. I fully expected to hate Marcie because of her moronic behavior and I kind of did...for a while at least. And then things turned confusing and sort of fascinating. I, along with every character in a book, for the life of me could not figure out what was happening. Trying to keep up with the heroine's personalities changes and unraveling her past was an absolute mind trip, not only for me, but for her as well. And Larc did not fair much better. He kept trying to do the right honorable thing, while at the same time struggling to understand (and maybe suppress) his urges and his pull toward the heroine (I'm just confused about how to address her now). In the end, it turned out to be a more interesting book than I expected it would be and I had a rather good time reading. Now I'm really itching for Sarah's story.
This is such a good story! What a romance! What an adventure! Lars sees Marcie/Margaret/Maeve and chooses her despite everything. He sacrifices so much but that makes everything sweeter. Poor Marcie/Margaret/Maeve has suffered so much and changed so much. This is a great book with lots of adventure and steamy scenes with a HFN ending. I love this series!!
The third book was just as exciting and interesting as the previous ones; if not better. The story has action, suspense, passion, and steamy love scenes that leaves you saying ahhh with awesome characters. This a series that will keep you on your toes and keep them coming?
The book was very entertaining and original. Marcie was very difficult to stomach. I am so glad something unbelievable happens to her. I found Larz and his breeder a very likable, loving couple. I couldn’t put the book down.
**I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review**
That being said, I bought a copy of the book since loved it so much!!
So, first off, this is NOT a standalone, you need to read books 1 and 2 to truly enjoy this book. And that is actually a good place for me to start. Through the books the world building has gradually developed. There wasn't a huge info dump in the first book so you don't have to re-read it before the new books in the series come out, for which I am grateful. I read a ton of sci-fi (TON!) and often the authors will give too much right away instead of blending in organically into the story.
Next. Marcie. God I hated Marcie at the end of book 2. Anyone would, she was a terrible person. Super terrible. Literally the worst. I was interested to see how her character was redeemed but was prepared to merely tolerate her. Man, was I wrong!. I hate spoilers and won't give away too much here, but....wow! It was done so creatively that I did not see it coming. Love her!!
Now Larz. Break-my-heart Larz is how I think of him. He sacrifices and sacrifices so much for his woman and there are times, especially in the beginning of the book, that your heart breaks for him and everything he goes through. He holds a special place in my heart now!
Finally, the story. This is the best one of the series (so far). And I'm not saying that lightly. Alien Mine (Book1) was my personal favorite of 2014. The pacing and tension was perfect. The storyline didn't feel rushed and wasn't tripping over itself setting up the next book. Larz and Marcie had organic interactions and chemistry and there were no easy fixes. And the world-building! I love world-building and this book fleshed out the new Earth, I am especially looking forward to Natalie City (wink, wink)!
So definitely read books 1 and 2 first and be prepared to love book 3!
Larz - Zyrgin, male, son of Natalie and Zacar, brother of Zorlof Margaret - human, female, agent for Parnell /goes as Maeve - born name, Margaret - used in No Name town, Marcie - latest persona at the raiders camp/
Margaret is introduced as Marcie, survivor from raider camp that was rescued with Sarah in 'Alien undercover'. Because of Marcie trying to kill Sarah, Larz forces his third change and lands in hot water with the Zyrgin. His punishment is getting demoted to citizen for 2 centuries and fighting every 3 months to save Marcie. After Larz and Marcie get together for the first time and the morning after she doesn't remember much and is very confused. Over the course of couple of weeks it is determined that Marcie's DNA was tampered with a technology from the 'golden age /approximately 1 century ago/' and her real DNA is asserting it's dominance. And it is further revealed that Parnell trained Marcie to be an agent and used that technology on her at least 3 times. It's a very dangerous as one of it's side effects is amnesia. Furthermore Parnell injected Margaret and Sarah with nano bombs. And told Margaret that she had the antidote to Sarah's bomb but all of her blood need to transferred to Sarah to neutralize it. But Viglar is able to remove the the nano bomb from both of them and confirm Parnell told a lie to Margaret. Larz gets his revenge against Parnell with Zanr. Zyrgins obliterate the gathered humans on the mountain. Zacar introduces the time travel technology he had and uses it to further his goal. He sends 6 warriors to the past and destroys the device. And publicly conquers Earth.

Alien Betrayed by Marie Dry This is the 3rd book in the Zyrgin Warriors series. I have not read the others but found this one was okay to read alone without the others. Marcie is a human and is being sent into the alien stronghold of the Rocky Mountains. She is supposed to infiltrate the aliens however an arrogant alien Larz wants her for his own. She thinks Larz is a reptile and that their area they live in as too sterile. Like steel and metals only and colors of silver too. Larz wants to have her for himself even though all others feel she is too vulgar and disgusting to even live. Larz has 3 steps to take prior to claiming a breeder and he is not to force any of the steps. He was at step 2 when the book started and he did force the 3rd step. He is now in trouble with the higher ups although he can sale Marcie from them killing her. Marcie is a spy and she is constantly plotting how she can leave and what she can take with her to be tests as for materials. All the time trying hard to not let Larz find out what she is really about. What would happen if Larz finds out? What will happen when Marcie falls in love with Larz? I was not into sci-fi books but this one has intrigued me and starting to think this maybe a new genre of books to enjoy
Zyrgin warrior Larz is an alien that is part of a group taking over the earth in an intergalactic invasion. They are based in the Rocky Mountains and here Larz captures a human in disguise and decides to claim her as part of their mission is to start relationships with humans. This is the beginning of a sci-fi romance that goes between romance and sci fi . Marcie is actually a spy and only helps her find out what is going on when she is the human that Larz decides he wants which causes problems because his people don't agree with all that she stands for and the trouble she seems to brew. Marcie starts to fall in love with I'm but she has lots of secrets that may not make Larz happy. A very different kind of book and at times you question but it does hold you to the end to find out where it leads.
A sci-fi romance revolving around aliens taking over the earth and starting relationships with humans. It's obviously a far-fetched plot, but it does keep your interest to see what will happen.
Zyrgin warrior, Larz, captures a human in disguise and claims her as his. His people do not agree with him and all the trouble she makes, and he can't explain his connection to her, but he insists she is his and must be treated as such.
Marcie goes through various changes as she discovers things that were done to her in the quest to have her infiltrate the alien stronghold in the Rocky Mountains. She grows to love Larz, but will he still want her by his side when he discovers all the secrets buried deep within her mind?
The characters and their actions were well done and the story kept my attention all the way through til the end. The actions of the other women against Marcie/ Margaret were normal for people that had been betrayed and threatened by a friend. I felt Margaret's despair, confusion, and loneliness as she regained her memories. I sometimes wanted to hit Lars at some of his actions. I cheered his total loyalty and support of Marcie/Margaret being willing to accept the Zyrgins judgement on both Margaret and himself.
This is the third book in the series and they are all worth reading. I am hoping that there are several more (Zorlof, Sara, and Zanr to name a few). And what about all the warriors willing "test" Zacar's new weapon? Please tell their stories also.☺
Alien Betrayed by Marie Dry is a futuristic intergalactic novel about an alien race, the Zyrgins, conquering earth and taking human women as their mates. Betrayal is rife between the humans, with spies being sent to infiltrate the alien ranks. Marcie is one of those spies and tries her best to cause as much mischief as possible. Larz breaks Zyrgin rules to save Marcie even though everybody hates her and Larz himself doesn’t understand why he wants her so badly. There are interesting twists and turns in this story as the characters develop and fall in love. I would recommend this book to all sci-fi lovers who enjoy a well thought out series. Marie Dry does not disappoint her readers!
"Alien Betrayed (Zyrgin Warriors Book 3)" by Marie Dry can be a read alone book but I recommend reading Book 1 and Book 2 in this series in order to understand what is happening in this story. It is perfect for those who like to read sci-fi/romance. You have Zygrin warrior Larz who is in a group to take over Earth, and human Marcie who is a spy. The only problem is that Marcie begins to fall for Larz.
It took me a while to finish this book but it was worth it. I loved every moment. Definitely have to read the first two books. Looking forward to more stories about the Zyrgins
