I like the art style! It is very beautifully done. I mean the covers of each chapter are gorgeous! In the manga itself, in places, the background is done in a hurry maybe because it falls flat and by that I mean there are a lot general background pictures that are used in manga and manhwa here.
As for the story, it was ok. It is nothing special. Then again vampires are one of the most overdone monsters, so it is hard to do anything new with them. Even though it is original in itself, I guess. It doesn't strike me as something I see for the first time. I have seen probably every element in another manga and/or manhwa.
The story is going slow and not in an interesting way.
The only interesting and remotely well-done characters for me are Carvel and Mano. Carvel's character is slowly revealing itself. In a not bad way, although it does not in any way have a wow factor.
Mano falls under interesting, even if overdone for the Korean manhwa genre trope. This trope is the strong kid that can beat everyone normal up, but still sucks in comparison with the other main and even secondary characters and is in dire need of protection. The breath of fresh air is that Mano understands his limits and know that he is done for if he is not protected.
Louis is meh most of the time. He is there as if to fill for any plot holes. I don't like that.
I really dislike Olivia. She is more of a villain than any villain until now. There is a small tread between likeable antagonist and dreadful villain. She is horrible. Too much ego, not enough wiseness to cover for her bad qualities.
The character of the chairmen is also not well done. I don't like him. In Japanese shojo manga genre, there are a lot babyfaced middleaged men and they are done very well. In comparison with let's say Love Monsters Shou Osora and again Love Monsters Semu (which the manga is nothing special but that manga had the tropes well done in this case) this character falls flat.
Maybe because I have read manga for years and have seen some astonishing pieces, that this manhwa falls flat on every surface for me.
I like the twist on how vampires function in this universe (being original species and subspecies), how they live and work, and how they die. I've read all I could of the translated manga, I believe to be volumes 1 and 2. The manga is still ongoing and, thanks to a friend of mine, I know that currently there is 50+ Chapters in the original Korean (probably more now) and only 22 of those are translated. So there is plenty yet to be seen.
Characters: Mano Yu reminds me a bit of Holden from Catcher in the Rye, in the sense that he hasn't much direction. He has, as of those 22 known chapters, a few goals in mind but other than that he feels as if he is drifting. Naturally this goes towards his upbringing in part, and the chaos that is the early 20s. He seems chaotic neutral for the most part, however has a soft kindness I enjoy a lot. He gets into fights a lot and stands up for himself, unlike Holden, though knows his limits.
Carvel is... your moody type, I suppose. We don't yet know a lot about him except that he lost his lover with hints that Mano is the reincarnation of. He is exceptionally powerful, which of those 22 chapters we yet do not know why precisely. While it seems like he is at times incompetent with modern norms, he seems to be genuinely caring about his work and those he takes care of.
Olivia is a spunky, easy going character that at times acts like comic relief, but to me comes off as just her personality which blends well. Thanks to a spoiler that I know (no, I will not be posting) it makes it easier to understand why she herself is particularly vivacious. I enjoy her a lot and she's one of my favorites.
Louis is an interesting characters, though one I feel is almost hopeless in the sense that he cannot progress. Again, there is plenty left of the story to be read, but as of right now his character feels as if he has succumb to his life's course. I hope it changes, he has a lot of potential left.
I didn't like the Chairman much. I don't know if it's just his creepy obsession with Carvel or how he is drawn as a child. Perhaps a combination. The child-aesthetic used and his persona irritate me, but not quite enough to knock off a star.
Pros: Engaging story, art, and fun to read. Very addictive, I do find myself going back to it for good feelings. Cons: Can seem like it drags a bit here and there. I don't like the idea of what appears to be forced romanticism between Carvel and Mano, however they themselves don't seem interested like that in each other. I'm hoping it keeps it's current flow of work partners, but this is a BL.
i have been following this manhua for yearsssss and every time it updates its like my birthday. i love it sm even if it last updated in january and then before that 3 years AGO💜
