Annabel Carver was plagued by self-doubt and crippled by painful memories for most of her short life. Annabel is innocently cast into a new passion filled world. Through a chance encounter with a handsome stranger, she will come face to face with what she fears, and unknowingly desires the most. Abandoned as an infant Annabel has long sought for answers to her real identity. Annabel must learn to use the power inside of her in order to find her true purpose, and teamed with a group of supernatural guardians, she will save this world.
Annabel's pulse raced as the hairs on her neck stood up while she walked closer to the gateway. The gateway was in a large clearing about two hundred yards away from the ranger's station. Two, large motionless, men silently, stood guard. Annabel glanced at them as she neared the portal to study it further. Annabel recognized them from the bar as two of the many who had frequented there.
“As a guardian you will be assigned a partner, for safety reasons. I believe that Vince will make a perfect partner for you. He has worked as a guardian since he was very young and I know you will be safe with him.” Patrick explained. Annabel turned to Patrick who was standing behind her now, and then she quickly smiled at him. “Now for the blood oath, are you ready Annabel?”
Sam Y Cats lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with her children. She is currently working on the Longing Pulse series, a PNR and Woodsgate Chronicles, a paranormal romance series.
I love LOVE, give me a long passionate relationship coupled with a fantastic background and throw in some blissful caresses, long finger strokes, and-- ah, sorry got caught up there *clears her throat* I mean, I like romance...hehe. And fantasy, Sci-fi and magic-realism as well. I write New Adult and Adult across all genres.
I also love reading books you can usually catch me looking at some eBook on my phone while thumbing through another paperback in my lap, yeah I like to multiple task there's never enough time it seems.
I'm very social so feel free to ask me questions if you like ;)
I was happy to get a free review copy of this book in an electronic format in exchange for an honest review indeed. The protagonist Annabel seems like a really plausible modern day character by all means. She is a bit scatty at first, but quite lovable and fun. It is easy to fall in love with such a girl, which is in fact presupposed along the storyline somehow. Moreover, the thread is finely interwoven, logical, and yet surprising and action-packed at times. Personally, I found the rest of the characters also sufficiently amusing, from her old best friend Kim to her new found match Cameron. Despite the many characters involved in the story, the reader is not overwhelmed, just satisfied with the 'real-life' scenario portrayed so vividly. The fact that the supernatural side of the story is presented in a moderate way is only a plus. The latter made me think the plot is actually symbolic in a certain way, presenting the facts of life and its dynamics in a metaphorical, even metaphysical shape. The morals of the book are undisputable, considering the questions about humankind's destiny raised. The author's language sounds natural, first-hand, romantic and literary in some places. On the other hand, the reader may find some various styles of expression and linguistic diversity typical of different age groups. However, I found that even more fascinating, totally in line with Annabel's sweet childhood memories. Finally, it definitely made me want to read more of the series.
Exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a new adult read that was heavy on the action and urban fantasy. Super fun characters and rich background. I can see so many possibilities from this storyline because of the world Sam Y Cats created.

This is a great read. (Mild Spoiler Alert:) I really enjoy the scene where they are flying across the lake, and I like how the author has created a world where ANYTHING can happen. It will be interesting to see where her imagination takes us next in this series.
I love a epic fantasy book and adding romance is only a bonus to me. Flawed and deep characters makes the action and story flow seamlessly.
Huge themes covered in this young adult and new adult book but openly spoken. I wish I had just one friendship in my life like Annabel Carver has in this story.
