Courtney Walsh is a novelist, theatre director, and playwright. She writes low spice romance and women's fiction while juggling the performing arts studio and youth theatre she owns and runs with her husband. Her debut, A Sweethaven Summer, hit the New York Times and USA Today e-book bestseller lists. She is also a Carol award winner and Christy award finalist.
A creative at heart, Courtney has also written two craft books and several full-length musicals. She lives in Illinois with her husband and three children and a sometimes naughty Bernedoodle named Luna.
Boy, does this author love her exclamation marks!!!!! There are at least 2-3 on every page. Everything is so Excting! Time Saving! Beautiful! A Great Idea! It became more of a game for me to count how many times an exclamation mark showed up within a brief paragraph rather than absorbing the tips provided by this book, which is a shame as there are some helpful and insightful tidbits. Granted, much of that information has been discussed elsewhere whether it's in other scrapbooking books or websites. That doesn't mean, though, the information is pointless.
It is very helpful to have a clean work space with all of your supplies well-organized. Yes, use all of your remaining scraps for something. And, yes, planning out a layout is very helpful. Unfortunately, none of these things truly helps me scrapbook. I love having to rummage through my jars, storage bins, folders, and trays for items. I love having an idea of the perfect layout and then changing it completely on the fly for some reason or other. And while I would love for everything to be clean and neat, that just doesn't work when completing arts and crafts projects.
The only real criticism of the book for me is the focus on women who scrapbook. True, the majority who participate in this hobby are women, but there are plenty of men who scrapbook. The cover and all the text about a woman's busy life turns away plenty of men. There's an inherent bias in this art form when everything is geared towards one gender. This needs to change!
This is a skinny easy read followed up with good ideas/examples. I really like this Courtney Walsh and the way she scraps and writes as I've noticed more of her work and articles in magazines and other books. She has some good ideas for making the most of scrapbooking time and useful tips on organizing that really inspired me!!
Ok. I like Courtney Walsh's scrapping style and enjoyed the layouts in the book. However, there really wasn't anything new in the book that I hadn't read or seen before in order to scrap when busy.
Courtney Walsh reminds all of scrappers to plan ahead, use what we've got, keep an inspiration notebook, and keep calm! Of course, all the layouts presented in the book were beautiful and inspiring
