“Hindsight is always easier than the dreadful moment of decision.” ― Richelle E. Goodrich

The young queen of Harrowbeth has been saved from the clutches of her enemy, only to fear prophetic nightmares of being recaptured. A red-eyed dragon haunts her dreams, portending doom within his fortune-telling gaze. It is Derian and Ian's job to keep the dragon's grim visions from coming true. Joined by their allies—a large and warring race called the Viiduns—Captain Derian and his militia escort their queen across the galaxy toward home until an unexpected detour takes them to a highly-advanced world. There, an old and quirky king appears to possess the power to rid them of their enemy for good. But is trusting the promise of a stranger a risk worth taking? It will require Eena to face her worst nightmare alone.

Over the past decade, author Richelle E. Goodrich has built an unusually diverse and steadily increasing body of work that spans fantasy, poetry, inspirational writing, and dark fiction. Her career began in 2012 with the launch of The Harrowbethian Saga, a six-book sci-fi fantasy series that occupied her creative efforts for seven years. By 2019, she completed the saga with Eena, The Companionship of the Dragon’s Soul, marking a major milestone and establishing her as a committed world-builder with an eye for myth, emotional depth, and imaginative adventure. Yet even as she constructed this sprawling fictional universe, Goodrich simultaneously pursued other avenues of storytelling, demonstrating a remarkable capacity for creative multitasking.

Alongside her fantasy novels, Goodrich became well known for her collections of poetry, motivational reflections, and quotable wisdom. Starting with Smile Anyway in 2014, she developed a signature style centered on daily inspiration—a format she revisited repeatedly with books like Making Wishes (2015), Slaying Dragons (2017), Being Bold (2020), and Hope Evermore (2024). These works blend short verse, reflective commentary, and encouraging thoughts that readers apply to everyday life. Many of her quotes have found their way into classrooms, anthologies, brand campaigns, and television, helping her reach an audience far larger than the average independent author typically enjoys.

In the late 2010s, Goodrich’s creative range widened even further. She released standalone works such as Dandelions: The Disappearance of Annabelle Fancher, a dramatic and emotionally charged novel, and Secrets of a Noble Keykeeper, a fantasy tale with a distinctly dreamlike atmosphere. These books showcase her ability to shift tone—from tender to suspenseful, from whimsical to intense—without sacrificing clarity or sincerity. They also emphasize a defining characteristic of her writing: the blending of emotional resonance with imaginative storytelling.

After concluding her major fantasy saga, Goodrich’s later work leaned increasingly toward introspection and lyrical expression. The 2020s saw the publication of The Tarishe Curse (2022), a dark, paranormal novel, followed by A Heart Made of Tissue Paper (2023), a collection of intimate poetry that explores emotional fragility, longing, and human vulnerability. In 2024 she released Hope Evermore, another daily-inspiration volume that weaves together spirituality, encouragement, and poetic insight. These recent works highlight her evolving voice—one that has grown more reflective, philosophical, and concentrated on universal human experiences.

Collectively, the past decade reflects a period of impressive productivity and artistic expansion. Goodrich has not only released a steady stream of books—across multiple genres and formats—but has grown a widespread presence through her well-circulated quotations and inspirational writing. Whether crafting epic fantasy, heartfelt poetry, or uplifting daily reflections, she demonstrates a persistent drive to create, express, and connect. Her work invites readers into worlds both fantastical and familiar, while her quotes inspire countless individuals in everyday life.

Richelle E. Goodrich delivers a rare blend of imagination, versatility, and personal authenticity. Her writing moves comfortably between the epic and the intimate, the adventurous and the contemplative. Few authors manage to cultivate such a diverse and consistent catalog within a single decade, and fewer still do so while also contributing art, poetry, and motivational writing that resonate far beyond their books.

I couldn't put this book down! I finished it in 2.5 days. Eena's story continues as she strives to set things right for her friends and her world. Will she ever find happiness? The story moves along smoothly and keeps you reading to find out what is going to happen next! I love all the characters, and they all work so well together, even with all the ups and downs. I can't wait until I get the 3rd book!

This second book in the Harrowbethian Saga includes many exciting, suspenseful, and romantic scenes. Book one introduced the intimidating captain, Kahm Derian, as well as his Viidun friend, Shanks. Book two colors in their personalities. We get to meet Shanks' crew―three giant, bearish, combative figures with a unique attitude towards life and death.

It's hard to choose a favorite chapter in this book (let alone a favorite book in the saga). Learning the rules and regulations to the most popular sport in Harrowbeth―Mallawum Ball―was a lot of fun. I smiled when Eena's competitive nature erupted during the first game she was exposed to. The rivalry that develops between the Viidun captain, Shanks, and Queen Eena is shocking but compelling. It is a surprise to discover a deeply-intertwined past for the three main characters―Eena, Derian, and Ian―accounting for the antagonistic interactions between the two men. I love how the dragons become more essential to the story, and how they receive names and ancestry while their purpose begins to slowly unravel. But if I had to choose, I would say my personal favorite part of this book was getting to know Kahm Derian in a whole new light. It reveals another side to the man that endears him to Eena and quite possibly to readers.

This story will have you day-dreaming about Eena's adventures whenever you are not reading about them!

Eena, the young queen of Harrowbeth, is finally approaching the dying world she left as a child. Standing in her way is the evil Gemdorin and his plot to take over the universe, some angry giant Viiduns, and a couple immortal beings. And if that wasn't enough to throw her off her mallawum game, she also learns that her parents promised her in marriage to Captain Derian, who she can't get along with if she tried.

There are some real gems in this sequel, one of which is the super creative game of mallawum. I adored the growing relationship between Eena and Derian and the traditions of the Harrowbethians. Their time spent in the gardens are some of my absolute favorite moments. I love how strong Eena is in fighting for what she believes in; it's really fun to see her grow as a character even though she still makes mistakes like a teenager. There is a host of really strong characters added to the mix as well.

4.5 stars, really, if I could give it that. Everyone needs to pick up this series, so Richelle can get the next one out!!

This book was hard to put down, but unfortunately, the past few months have been almost too busy to read much. This second book has more action and more romance. I am eager to read what comes next for Eena and her friends.

I have finished Eena the Return of a Queen. It's full of adventure, suspense, intrigue, and surprises lurking. It is about a teenager who is thrown into an adult world. It's a little science fiction, a little fantasy and love, and lots of characters.
