Yamamoto Hideo , is a Japanese manga artist best known for the manga series "Ichi the Killer" (which was adapted into a live-action film in 2001) and the series, Homunculus (manga). Recurring themes in his manga are crime, sexual deviations, and psychology.
This volume is pretty heavy, but I think it's my most favorite.
Homunculi are distortions of the mind and the suffering of the heart.
It was revealed that Nakoshi went under plastic surgery after high school to change his uneventful life. He thought everything will finally work out if he was handsome. But he realized, going back to volume 7 revelation, that nothing really changed. His life remained the same despite having tons of girls, money, and a job. He couldn't feel anything; the sincerity, and warmth—that in the end, he was still living a lie.
On the other hand, Ito (finally! I learned the pierced guy's name, it's kinda familiar though, I might have forgotten after he introduced himself to Nakoshi back in the first volume) used to wear these rings, faux nails, and makeup as his fashion statement, but goes presenting himself decently and timidly-looking when he visits his father. In the end, the fake appearance is what links Nakoshi with Ito... and Nakoshi just thought of something to break this homunculus.
Now we're finally going somewhere! There was a big evolution in character here, both in Ito and Nakoshi, or at least some big revelations and steps further. There are some lines that are still being crossed and I'm uncomfortable with what they're forcing each other to do but I guess they don't have other options.
Some might interpret this as implying that the manga is 'deep.' That is absolutely true, but in my opinion, it is also a clumsy approach to be profound. A manga that tries hard to be deep and profound is fine, but when you have to wrack your brain almost every page because practically everything you see appears to be a subtle point by the author to express something, reading becomes a huge effort, and the author's message is more likely to be lost.
If you got here, congratulations you v got lots of delusions on your own i suppose Literally the volume where this manga starts to bring physical discomfort along with emotional insanity that just increases. Here it becomes very unsetteling to read to extent when you physicaly get nauseous. All i could think reading this is just "help me" Gotta go throw up and lie on the floor trying to deal with depression this manga brought to me I suppose that on the next volume i ll just go crazy This thing is insane 5 stars
This manga series is about a homeless man, Nakoshi, who has trepanation surgery and can see homunculi. As the reader, we aren't sure yet if these are real representations of a person's inner heart and shown through the sixth sense, or if these are all an illusion. It becomes quite complex up to this point.
In Volume 9, we begin to learn more about Ito, who had administered the surgery. We delve more deeply into his relationship with his father and see changes in his homunculus. A very well-written volume with haunting artwork. This is my favorite one so far.

This is probabaly my favorite so far, the main reasone probably would be deep dive through Nakoshis character, I can't even blame him for what he did (i don't mean when he raped girl), i mean how he was victim of soceity and wanted new freash start.
god their dynamic is so interesting and him fully seeing this world thru his one eye and talking to piercing guy and getting to who he is. what he has done. and what he is trying to become. this is such a rich and complex story and i have no idea where it is going to go next
