Short and honest: Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree is a gutsy, uneven debut with real talent on display. What worked: a fresh, strange voice and a few scenes I haven't stopped thinking about. What didn't: the structure wobbles and a couple of characters never come into focus. Recommend for readers who like to catch a writer early, skip for anyone who wants a polished, finished-feeling book.

Honest reaction to Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree: it's loud, it's rude, and I laughed way more than I'm comfortable admitting. Hal Leonard doesn't care about being likable, and the narrator's rant about her coworker's passive-aggressive sticky notes is the funniest thing I've read all year. The jokes start repeating by the end, so it overstays its welcome a bit. Great for anyone who's ever had a terrible boss. Skip it if sarcasm gives you a headache.
