Gunplay & LeTavia

Gunplay & LeTavia: Shawty Want A Thug

Rate this book
There are no fairytale love stories when you live in the hood...

Raised in the heart of the hoods of Brooklyn, 18-year-old LeTavia was the oldest of two children looked after by their grandmother after their mother ran out on them. Built with a strong sense of responsibility, it was this trait that pushed her to protect Deshaun Banks, aka Gunplay, the very first time she laid eyes on him.

Gunplay, a born hustler, ducked into a local food spot, hoping to dodge the police that were searching for him but what he found inside ended up being more than he expected. When LeTavia immediately assisted him by attempting to hide him from the cops, he not only avoided being placed in prison for the rest of his life but he found the one woman who he would learn is loyal to him from Day 1. Or is she really?

Five years later, Gunplay is released from prison and runs into the person whom he owes his freedom to. Now 23 years old, LeTavia is a full grown woman and just as desirable to him as she was the day they'd first met. Immediately, Gunplay sets his mind on making her his but Quisha, the chick who held him down for five years of lock up, isn't having that.

Cutta was the king of the Harlem streets before Gunplay was locked up and, after his release, he's even more powerful. When he hears that Gunplay has been released, he has one goal in mind and that's to end Gunplay's life for a betrayal he blamed Gunplay for years ago. But when fate brings him into contact with LeTavia, his plans take a turn that even he didn't expect and the result threatens to tear down everything that LeTavia and Gunplay have built.

Is real love always loyal love? When the rules of the streets are mired by the desires of the heart, the results can be treacherous and, oftentimes, deadly.

It's nice to see how Gunplay and Letavia meet, but I know the drama is not over. I wish Tavi would have told Gunplay about the rape when it first happened so she wouldn't be in this mess. Excited to see what part 2 will bring. Great read

I always liked the relationship Gunplay & Tavia had when reading Keshia and Trigga. It was good learning about their background and how they came to be such a strong couple.

ok so...I read both of these books back to back in 3 days total...after reading all of Keisha & Trigga plus the Reloaded series...I can't get enough of the Characters..I love how they all intertwined with the Loyalty and family bond and the story lines kept it going like a movie series...Yes...Trigga is my boo...and was part of the reason I continued to Read Gunplay and Tavia...I can't wait to see what's coming next...I saw some of Gunplays cousins have their own series by Porsha...I might just have to check those out....

Wow

Wow great read. Gunplay is a fool and I fear for Tavi life if he ever find out about her and Cutta. Quisha got what she was asking for couldn't believe all the foul shit she did to Tavi especially when she knew what was going to happen. Good read from beginning to end and I can't wait to start part 2 so I can see what happens.

Not much to the story that held interest enough to really want to read the next one. Gunplay came with too much drama and from the time Latavia was contemplating trying his drink because Sonya said everyone was doing it I was pretty much done with it all. Not sure if I’ll read the next one but who knows.

Crazy ending

Gunplay has a "I don't give a f*ck" attitude and don't mind giving men and women the business. Tavia finds herself surrounded by violence, guns, and brutality after encountering Gunplay. However, they couldn't stay away from each other. Book two will be interesting because the ending is crazy.

Loved it

I don't know why it took me so long to read this book because it was really good. I just hope Gunplay forgives Letavia for killing Quisha. It was self defense anyway. Getting ready to read part 2 now.

They both are so head strong and stubborn. They make a cute couple. I hope Letavia tells someone what Quisha and Cutta did. Can't wait to see what happens in book 2.

Dang I definitely wasn't expecting the book to be like that. The relationship between Gunplay and LeTavia was so cute.Im glad that they met.The way they met was crazy but I can't believe after 5 years they made something.Imani is so cute and I can't believe the type of mom she has. That women definitely needs help.If I knew a man didn't want to be with me I would so be done.Wow Gunplay baby momma is so trifling like why would you want someone else to feel that type of pain.I love how Tavia helped take care of her siblings.Tavia home girl Sonya is crazy as hell.I swear this book was so good.

I must say that this one made me go back and forth with my rating and finally I think what cinched it for me was the explanation in the back of the book. The book is clearly about Gunplay and Letavia as the title suggests. They cross paths 5 years prior in a brief albeit intense encounter. Upon his release from jail they happen to cross paths again and it is as if the chemistry that they both felt 5 years before was still there. They start this relationship that is in and of itself fraught with absolute chaos and drama. But underneath all of that there is a quiet intensity that seems to be ever present whenever they interact with one another. Letavia was not your typical damsel in distress in need of rescue.(THANK GAWD) She actually is a strong woman holding things down for her grandmother, sister, and disabled little brother. She consistently puts the needs of her loved ones before her own truly showing us what type of character Ms. Sterling and Mr. Sullivan created. Gunplay was a pill that was a little difficult to swallow and hence my reasoning for going back and forth with this book. For all intents and purposes Gunplay just isn't a good guy. He sells drugs without remorse, he makes questionable decisions when it comes to the woman he claims to love, and he feels absolutely no compunction what so ever about putting his hands on a female that hits him. But beneath that goon-like facade that he portrays to the world he has a heart. Nothing makes this more evidently clear than when we see the way that he deals with Letavia's brother, Peanut. He could have joined the ranks of everyone around them and not taken notice of him or even belittled him for something that he had no control over but instead he attempted to give the young man some confidence and help him feel better about himself. Quisha had to be the baby mama from the fiery pits of hell. She took disloyalty to an all time high and the fact that she was delusional to boot, proved to be an extremely deadly combination. All in all whether I wanted to like Gunplay or not or whether I thought that some of the decisions Letavia made as a result of being with him were wise, I can't say that I didn't enjoy the story that these eloquent storytellers were able to weave together. Whether you agree with the lifestyle or even the actions of the characters you can't discount that once you immerse yourself into the tale you don't want to come up for air until the very end. Now what I was eluding to before about going back and forth with my ranking. I agree with some of the other reviewers who indicated that the prologue didn't match up with the ending but after reading Ms. Sterling's note I understood the direction that they were taking the story. Gunplay wouldn't(at least in my opinion) have been humanized enough for us if we hadn't seen the struggles that he had gone through. We needed to see him in the worst light possible(which is what was depicted in the prologue) and then we were able to see him in vulnerable situations where he actually did wear his heart on his sleeve. To me they are building up to allow us to see how he became as hardened as he did and as a result of situations and circumstances it led him to that fateful night that we have yet to see play out in its entirety. So with all of that being said, GREAT JOB Ms. Sterling and Mr. Sullivan!! Kudos to you both!! I can't wait to read part two.

Great read

As usual you did your thing with this one. I must say that every time an author puts a rape scene in their book I cringe because I hate to read them in love stories,no matter how hood the book is. These two are definitely starting off with a rough start. I hope LeTavia and Gunplay find their happily ever after with more love and less drama. Cutta needs to be dealt with just like Quisha was dealt with. Gunplay needs to know what happened because he's the right kind of crazy to handle him. Can't wait til the next book drops.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was so entertaining, that it kept me up most nights, because I didn't want to put it down! Gunplay, is a nut, but I think he, and Latavia make a cute couple. I can't wait to see what happens when he finds out about Cutta raping Latavia.

Good Start

I think this is the beginning of a great series. It started out with drama and left off with even more drama. I'm feeling the characters who we know by reading Keisha and Trigger (Another good series). Now we're getting into their relationship which is messy from the start. This story has lots of action and you won't want to put it down. Here we're getting to know them and how they met. Gunplay is this rough street thug and LeTavia appears to be a good girl being sucked into his world but she's not innocent. This is getting good so I can't wait to read more of them.

This book was so good! From the first page to the last it was non stop action. Gunplay is crazy and does not play any games. I couldn't stand Quisha, i'm glad she got hers. Letavia seemed so sweet and innocent who knew she had it in her. I was not expecting the book to end like that. Leo and Porscha never disappoints! It always seems like i'm watching a movie when i'm reading a book by these two. Can't wait for part 2!

I liked the book, but some stuff in the book had me feeling some type of way. Gunplay was cool until he started back-handing a Bish and cheating. Letavia, she was going Mike Tyson on Bish's, but when it came to Gunplay she gave him way too much slack. She was a kind of weak in my opinion. Anyway, I can't wait to read book 2. What up with the prologue, though? I was confused.

Goooood

This was dam good book. I love all the craziness that was going on with Gunplay and LeTavia relationship, it's like non stop drama. When I first started reading the book to now the ending, I'm a little confused about LaTavia being all up on Cutta like she now likes and wants him if he raped her, that doesn't even make any sense. Anyway I guess it will be all explain further in the next book, that I can't wait to read.

This was good!

Hopefully Gunplay doesn't really kill Tavi... I hope he hears her out and she's not really playing both sides, maybe she's trying to set him up and kill him Idk...Quisha was bitter asf but I don't wish death on anyone but you can't keep pushing someone bc they do have their breaking point...I'm ready for part 2

Disappointed

I was very disappointed in the pen game of two very well established authors, there was grammatical errors all over the place and confusion with some names of characters. I will read part 2 only because I really would like to know the outcome, though I hope it's written and edited better than this one.

Gunplay @ Tatavia

This book was awesome, Gunplay he's a hot mess but I love his character, Cutta I don't like him I'm glad he's where he is. you don't do that to women, I don't know what happened to him to make him that way I sure do hate it because it sounds like he's very handsome maybe a woman s dream.
And Quishia got what was coming to her, I'm so ready to read part 2

Shawty wants a thug

I don't feel bad for what happened to Quisha. How could she help Cutta rape another woman because you didn't like her was plain dumb. I hope they get the bartender also. Tavia better tell Gunplay what they did to her.
