14.10.19 OKAY. First of all: DUDE. 😭 Ayato got totally EXPOSED by Kaneki in this volume. “I’m beating you half to death. And so I’m going to break...103 of your bones.” AJSHDJCJCNHHFJC.
Second: Arata-proto kakuja quinque. 💀
Third: Owl vs. Shinohara and Kuroiwa. EPIC.
Fourth: Noro vs. Yomo/Uta/Tsukiyama 👀
AND, of course, the ending of the arc and the new beginnings. 😪💔
Btw, the amount of seeds planted in this volume....unbelievable. Sui Ishida’s brilliance shines extra bright this time.

28.03.18 Yeah, Tsukiyama's ''Kaneki....BADASS MODE!!!!'' sums it up pretty well. This volume was so good. Beautiful. The final scene though??? THAT ENGRAVING ON THE RING? Listen, my girl Touka has done nothing wrong in her life EVER so why make her suffer like this? I’m mad.

This volume is one of the best volumes of the manga.
Things are getting stiff more and more!
Here, we know more about both Touka and Ayato and their childhood, and how they are so different from each other even when they were still children.

Sadly, I am not continuing with the rest of the manga because my sister spoiled the end to me. And I didn't like that end much anyway. The end in the anime is better in my opinion.

But I highly recommend reading the manga, though. It is so good and horrific.

The plot is superb...the action scenes however are pretty hard on the eyes at times :/

In this volume we learn more about Touka and Ayato's childhood, and how they were once really close. It's very sad to see how estranged they have become and the different pathways they have taken. Ayato is hell-bent on causing havoc and feasting on the human race but Touka prefers to integrate with humankind and even has human friends! She wants to go to college and better herself but Ayato is on a destructive downward spiral. Kaneki and Ayato fight with Kaneki breaking exactly half of Ayato's bones (which he did deserve tbh).

Elsewhere, Shuu, Banjo and Uta take on Noro and discover that he can heal himself once his head has been removed!!

There are a lot of action scenes in this volume which did confuse me at times, especially since the investigators are wearing full-bodied quinques, and I honestly couldn't tell who was who. Despite this, volume 8 was another solid installment in the TG series. I am going to be incredibly sad when it's over!

22024 review: Juzo is crazy. of course, Touka and Ayato's tragic life story got me the 2nd time. I don't know how I feel about the drastic Kaneki change, but he's truly not the same. also, from now on will be new ground for me, as I don't remember past this point, so who knows what he'll discover, but I'm interested in all of the different ghouls factions.

Though I can see it will only get worse in terms of events from here, this volume is one of the best.
Finally knowing the background of Touka and her brother Ayato. Also the drastic change in Kaneki's character is too much. I can't help but wonder what's going to happen now. It's getting more gore and bloody with each chapter, as well.

Naturalmente Ken vince. Se mi dispiace per Ayato? Neanche un po'. Sono cattiva vero? Ma sono fan di Kaneki in bianco.

Ayato and Touka’s backstory was pretty interesting, though I live for the Anteiku squad banding together to fight the Aogiri Tree ghouls. I loveeeed the tease of Amon and Kaneki glimpsing each other, since them meeting again is what I’m arguably most excited for.

“I wonder why humans standing on a cliff of despair, become much more beautiful...”

Volume 7 and 8 killed me emotionally. Kaneki has changed so much and not for the better.
I understand that he had to change, that there was no way he could stay the way he was. I understand that perfectly, but my heart aches because this sweet and innocent boy, has been turned into something that is not entirely human anymore. In order to survive in this brutal world, he had to change. Everything that he went through... it forced him to change.
This is too heartbreaking...

So as a manga reader for over 20 years, and anime watcher, you hear a lot of "the manga is so much better" as much as people go "the book is so much better than the movie". So with Tokyo Ghoul I took it with a grain of salt. Now there are times the Manga is better than the anime but it's almost always over exaggerated. However, Tokyo Ghoul would be the major exception.

So in the anime this is where season 2 came in and a lot of meh came with it. Ken became gloomy and boring, the fights were lifeless, and the storyline was a jumbled mess. However, volume 8 of the manga? Goddamn this shit kicks it into high gear.

Between the doves dealing with "The Owl" to Ken facing off against Ayato after Ayato tortures his sister and defeats her. That's okay though because Kaneki will handle him by breaking 103 bones in this fools body. Shit is violent and wonderful. Oh and we also get some HUGE changes that'll effect the rest of the series.

Good: Loved the heck out of the fights in this one. Brutal, vicious, and a lot of emotions. The background with Ayato and Touka is powerful and works to build both their characters. I thought the ending was great to a build up. How wonderful is they kept Kaneki mood. He's happy and cheerful yet now he has a Ghoulish side. Much better than moppy and sad one from the anime.

Bad: Some of the fight scenes hard to follow.

Overall this shit is fucking amazing. Fast paced, great emotion, and so much better than the anime at the same point. I gotta go with a 5 star easy.

Review for vol. 5: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The three sides' fight continues, the CCG investigators v.s. Aogiri total war! Whilst the folks from Anteiku try to recuse Kaneki. This time Touka and her younger brother Ayato's backstory is revealed!

Love the fight scenes, plus the artwork is as lovely as usual! And the Ayato v.s. Kaneki-kun battle is so damn great, love how the two guys work their issues (mostly regards to Touka) out through fighting!

The ending part...where ...it nearly ends me!!!! T_T

EDIT

EDIT 24/4/2020
Rilettura con Edicola & Libreria: le nostre passioni...
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

O forse no...

So we learned Touka and Ayato siblings and their past. It was heartbreaking.
But White haired Kaneki was fantastic! When he broke the bones of Ayato and giving biology lessons! )))) Like I said, I love sweet guys fighting cruelly^^
However I didn't appreciate Kaneki's leaving of Anteiku. Well, at least I didn't liked the fact that Touka and Kaneki must seperate.

The fight scenes are still pretty confusing... Which is annoying. It's also annoying that more often than not speech bubbles don't have any spoke indicating who they belong to, so I can't tell who's talking. These two points basically meaning: Reading this series is a very confusing experience. That being said, it is still a super fast read. I was expecting to take a lot longer to read it than I did.

Kaneki is more of a savage now that he beat the shit out of Jason and accepted his ghoul-ness. Reading the fight with him and Touka's brother was... Quite an experience.

I don't know if I've ever noticed this about the art before, but it's extremely unique. I've never seen anything quite like it. That being said, I don't necessarily actually like it. I like how Touka and Kaneki look, but everyone else looks a bit off.

This review is pretty negative, but this book was good. I wish so much that I liked the manga more, because Tokyo Ghoul is my favorite anime, and I'm sure I've said this in past reviews.

Since these volumes read so incredibly fast it makes me quite excited to keep reading, so lucky for me I have the next two volumes, the third volume after that is coming out in two weeks, AND I have the two light novels that are out. I've got lots of Tokyo Ghoul ahead of me.
