HIGH WATER Abraham's hazardous trip by flatboat to New Orleans (where he witnesses a slave hanging) is tracked in the second volume of the trilogy, HIGH WATER. FULL HEART Abraham leaves the farm to become a storekeeper in New Salem for Denton Offutt. There, Abraham meets Ann Rutledge, whom he begins to court in the trilogy's concluding volume, FULL HEART.
