Janet Anne Haradon Dailey was an American author of numerous romance novels as Janet Dailey (her married name). Her novels have been translated into nineteen languages and have sold over 300 million copies worldwide.
Born in 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa, she attended secretarial school in Omaha, Nebraska before meeting her husband, Bill. She had since gone on to write approximately 90 novels, 21 of which have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List. Janet Dailey passed away peacefully in her home in Branson on Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was 69.
I didn't care for this book at all. It's repetitious in the line where the main character's husband leaves her for a much younger woman. She has 2 spoiled rich kids who continuously get their own way. Luz goes after the younger man...the same man her daughter is after. Polo is a big theme in the book which is not interesting to me. I was glad to finish it.
Beware of this emotional rollercoaster. A sensual novel that gives a synopsis of one woman’s whole world in the most sophisticatedly artistic way ever. I’m attached to this piece of art forever. Thank you, Janet. You did a splendid job.
This is about a woman named Luz Kincaid who is in her 40's married to attorney Drew Kincaid. When Drew has a new employee named Claudia working for him suspicions not only rise with Luz but with other people who have seen the two together at functions. Drew and Luz have been married for a long time and have two children who are basically grown.
Rob is Luz's son. He wants to take a year away from college to focus on playing polo. Trisha is fresh out of high school about to attend college when she meets 37-year-old, Raul and forms a huge crush on him. When Luz agrees for Rob to take a year off from college, Raul becomes Rob's coach for Polo. During this time Drew and Luz get a divorce. When Luz meets Raul 5 months later not only does her life change but for her children as well. Drew and Claudia get married and have a child together.
When Luz and Raul meet attraction occurs. Luz is very well aware her younger daughter has a crush on this man making it a difficult decision for Luz to pursue a relationship with Raul. When tensions rise between her, Raul and the children it is apparent that there are many unanswered questions that Luz still has to attend to with her children in order for Luz to move on with her life. Can Luz fix the relationships in her family so that everyone can get along and move on? Will Luz be able to handle the difficult life changing challenges that is coming her way?
I really enjoyed this story. I rated it a 3 because there were some things in the story I did not particularly like and could have been left out. Some parts did feel a bit long and could have made the story a bit shorter. Otherwise, the writing is very good and had me going the whole way through. Therefore, I rated this a 3. I still highly recommend and am interested in trying more of her books.
Read in 1994 - i loved it and would have given it 5* then! Rereading it 20 years later! (jeez that's depressing...) LEt's see how i like it this time around...
Reread - Feb. 2015 4* This is a great book; however this time around the ending disappointed me! After all the complications, Luz and Raoul seemed to get back together and work things out in less than half a page (last page!!!) ... This made no sense to me since the whole book was so long- why not give the reader the satisfaction of a properly executed happy ending??!!
Other than that - excellent and heartwarming ... (Even as dated as this book is...)
The Glory Game, Janet Daily, PB-B, @ 1985, 1/92. A novel about a wealthy woman who has everything until her husband leaves her for a younger woman. She follows championship polo from Palm Beach to England, to Paris, to Argentina. Okay.
