She just wanted to shake up her love life. Jacklyn (Jack) Wyatt is the typical twenty-five-year-old living the typical Provo single life with the typical bad luck—at least until the FBI recruits her for a completely different type of dating.
A young woman has gone missing, and all signs point to her online dating profile as the kidnapper’s operating ground. But when suspects who crossed paths with the missing girl begin contacting Jack, the FBI sees its opportunity for an inside man—er, woman.
Now Jack will have to play the field, dating each of the men in an attempt to weed out the kidnapper. But with such an unusual array of characters vying for her attention, pinpointing the culprit may prove even harder than finding Mr. Right. And as more young women disappear, will Jack stay professional and objective, even with the handsome Special Agent Damon Wade just a whisper in her hidden microphone away?
"I've never had much luck with guys in the past except for my lasting romance with Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. If he only knew about it-and was a real person-we'd be very happy together".
A Date with Danger by Kari Iroz
My Review:
I could have triggered an asthma attack from laughing so hard.
You know those book characters you just feel like you know? The ones you would LOVE to know in real life (and have as GR friends!)
That is Jaclyn. (Or "Jack" as she is known).
This is a fun mystery involving online dating, a witty FBI agent, many single male creeps, Jaclyn's feet and one hilarious event after another as well as a few really scary moments.
This book is just A Rip Roaring, smartly written whale of a good time! Jaclyn may just be the coolest character I've read about in years.
And this book, as well as having wit and mystery has so much soul.
A Date with Danger is part YA, Part Mystery, part romance and part..just all around fun. That should be a book genre..the "fun" genre. I do not see how any reader of any of the above mentioned categories could fail to love this. Not only is the book great fun but our main character is someone who the reader can instantly connect with. I adored her and wish I could friend her on GR.
Anyone who has been single will also be able to identify with some of the dates from hell. I do not think I would call this Chick Lit. It really is a mystery/who done it but it is combined with YA and just a heck of alot of humility. You just do not see books like this around as much as they should be.
Jack's wit will have you in stitches. In fact, I was having a not so good week when I read this and Jacklyn was the week's highlight. Go ahead and dig in. I sure hope more books about Jacklyn are written as if they are I plan to read them all.
I'm having a hard time deciding which to emphasize, the great characters or the problems with tone. I really enjoyed Jacklyn; and Damon was no slouch. Their wrangling was a hoot, but frankly, Jack is just an awesome character all around. I'd gladly read a dozen more books with her in them, if only to enjoy her unique blend of kindness and realism. She's sometimes called naïve, but she sees clearly enough and tells it straight with enough wit to make it enjoyable. And I really like her determination to work with the best others can bring to the table and be content with it.
And I enjoyed the structure of the plot that gave the author the opportunity to set Jack loose among the LDS dating scene. Jack's "dates" are all types and come close to caricature, but Iroz puts enough heart in each to make them believable and give Jack something real to bounce off of. I am so glad not to be part of that scene, but that didn't keep me from enjoying Jack's adventures there.
So Jack, Damon, and the LDS singles scene were a strong four, edging on five stars. Unfortunately, the presence of kidnapping and an FBI investigation intruded a level of stark urgency that made this harder to immerse into. Hanging over Jack's head is the threat of a missing girl (and later another) and that put the wisecracking and hijinks into stark relief—and not in a good way. And it really hurts that the FBI element starts off with a rather stupid chapter or two that just smacks of authorial intrusion, making Jack rather stupid and oblivious (believing she's being kidnapped because she is distracted at first and then nobody is talking to her, just hustling her along? Yeah, that doesn't work even a little bit). And I've yet to see any office, let alone a government one, that doesn't have a label on their doors or reception area. I almost listed the other half-dozen problems I had with that scene, but I'm nitpicking now. That scene bugged me because Jack was otherwise rather observant and confident and willing, even eager, to act. There are minor tone slips later, as well, but that was the worst.
So it was a solid four stars and I enjoyed the story immensely. And I really liked the romance, too, though the ending slipped a bit. . So the solid four wobbled a bit at the romantic end, but I'm going to keep it four overall if only because Jack rocked me so hard.
A note about LDS: This is deeply, inherently, and inseparably LDS. It's not just culture or tradition, but LDS belief and ideology infuse the characters as much as it does the story. Indeed, I suspect that Jack's keen insight and observation will fall pretty flat to someone not immersed in the culture and tradition of LDS faith leaving outsiders wondering how she drew her conclusions. Really, I'd recommend non-Mormons give this one a pass.
A Date with Danger starts out as your typical LDS fluff fiction, but quickly takes an interesting turn. Jacklyn (aka Jack) is 25 and starting to feel a little like a spinster, but a few run-ins with a mysterious man lead to her working as a spy, of sorts, for the FBI.
I'm not good in situations that leave me vulnerable and have to admire Jack and the way she handles so many blind dates, all generated from an online dating service, when one of the men is potentially a serial kidnapper. Jack is blunt, yet has a way about her that evokes humor. I laughed, I groaned, I cringed, and I smiled at the antics that result from Jack's situations and experiences.
Damon is a very straight-laced, yet handsome, agent and rubs Jack the wrong way for a time. He sure is committed to his job and when the lines become blurred, the outcome is more trouble than either of them bargains for.
This story ranges from serious to scary to fun to silly and I enjoyed each and every date, as I , along with Jack and Damon, tried to figure out who the villain is and why. This is a fun and entertaining journey and I was left guessing until the end. Things wrapped up a little too quickly for me, and not just with figuring out the "who-done-it." There are some issues that each character is dealing with and the resolution is fast (not that I wanted long and drawn out--just a little more inner dialog to understand thoughts).
Content: mild romance (some very mild innuendo, mild kissing); mild violence (kidnapping, threats); mild-moderate religious elements specific to the LDS church (a few prayers and other events specific to religion). Clean!

Jacklyn (who goes by "Jack") was recruited by the FBI to help find a young woman who went missing. Her connection to the missing girl is an online dating site that they are both members of. She is able to work with hunky Special Agent Damon Wade, who happens to be single as well.
This book sounded like it would be more serious but it made me laugh. A lot! It brought back lots of memories of being single and the dating pool that always seems to be available. Although some of her dates took it to another level. Jack and Damon were an easy couple to root for. They created plenty of sparks as they tried to narrow down the field of suspects.
I was thoroughly entertained the entire time I read this book and didn't want it to end. I have to say that I was a little disappointed in the ending. It felt a bit rushed and I personally wished for a little more. There are some references to the LDS religion but it isn't preachy at all. It was a perfect blend of suspense and romance. The romance is sweet and clean and even humorous at times. This is a fantastic summer read and one I definitely plan to read again!
I received a copy from the publisher for an honest review. My opinion is 100% my own.
This book was definitely not what I expected! Even with Jack's self-deprecating and sassy humor, there is a vulnerability and longing in her character as she navigates the dating field in a Utah college town. While there are definite references to the Mormon church she belongs to, this is a book that can be understood and enjoyed by those from other faiths as well. One of the lines that caught my eye early on and appropriately describes the dating scene in the book is: "Clichés get that way because they're the extreme of something." While I spent my college experience dating one man and then marrying him, I was a highly entertained observer of friends and family members who endured similar experiences to what Jack goes through. The chemistry and banter between Damon and Jack are too good since they drive each other nuts but provide support as the tension steadily increases throughout the book. A highly climactic ending wraps the plot up nicely. A great blend of humor, romance and suspense!
(Thank you to Covenant Communications for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review)
So few books have characters with this strong of voice. This was a refreshing novel, a memorable heroine and lots of danger and hilarious moments. Couldn’t put it down.
I loved this book. The main character, Jack, was one of my favorite characters to date. Her snarky and humorous personality really made the book a pleasure to read.
Jack (aka Jaclyn) is twenty-five living in Provo, Utah. She is single and half-heatedly dating. She goes through the motions but doesn't expect a lot from the guys she goes out with. She is self-deprecating and doesn't have high self-esteem. She comforts herself with food and isn't ashamed of it. It's her sarcasm that really came through the pages and the fact that she doesn't conform to others expectations that made her so lovable to me.
Jack's sister made a profile for her on an on-line dating site. The men who are interested in going out with her showed interest in a woman who has disappeared. The connection seems to be the web interest. Jack is asked to be a civilian "spy" to see if they can apprehend the kidnapper before he can "strike again."
I know when I was dating several years ago, I went on some very bad dates, but Jack's experiences really are horrible. The book is almost a catalog of the worst dates imaginable. I know that I cringed at many of the men that she found herself with. The bright spot was the FBI agent who was taking care of her. Damon is the stable part of the characters. He handles her personality well. They are opposites and in this book opposites do attract.
The book does have mystery and suspense. Time is running out to try to find the kidnapped victim. There is a little bit of violence, some innuendo, and kissing. The book is set with LDS characters. Religion is a part of the story and important to some of the characters. I didn't find it preachy, but more of a soul-searching aspect. Two people trying to figure out what is important to them in their lives.
I read this book in one day. I didn't want to put it down, even when I had meetings that I needed to attend.
This book is just amazing. I got to admit, at first when I saw this book I thought it would be a bit cheesy because I had just finished an amazing romance by Tiffany Odekirk which was amazing. But anyway, after reading this book I can tell you that my first impression was totally wrong. You can judge a book by its cover that's for sure.
I freakin love Jack! She is so amazing and I love the romance/suspense the book brings. It makes you feel like a detective and I gotta say the kidnapper is definitely not who you would think it is. When I found out I was so surprised and shocked!
But the book ends so nicely. Damon and Jack really make a dream couple the way they can so easily talk with one another. Such a cute book, I absolutely loved it. Check it out if you haven't read it because it is a perfect book for those who are looking for a clean, cute, and funny book!

Really really really good book!! (In my opinion at least). I just finished it and can I say, WOW! It started off kinda slow and I was afraid I wasn’t going to like it but the everything gets flipped upside down.
It really started up when she sees that someone is stalking her and it turns out to be the FBI?!??! Jacklyn(aka Jack) gets roped into helping trying to find a missing girl by going on dates from the website that the missing girl has used, and going on a “date” with the potential suspects. Then, near the end, another girl gets kidnapped. The FBI thinks that they have found their guy, but Jack doesn’t think so. She goes back to her apartment, not protected by the FBI anymore, and try’s to solve it herself. Then she figures it out. She hurried out to go and tell the FBI but gets kidnapped by the kidnapper.
It gets really crazy at some parts and the ending is probably one of the biggest plot twits I’ve read in a while. It is a great book and a clean one so it was perfect and idk why more people haven’t read it!

I have not laughed out loud so hard for as long as I can remember. This book was seriously hilarious. My daughter was concerned, and it was hard to stop laughing long enough to read some funny parts to her. Quite a few of the laughs may have come from situations stemming from LDS culture, but I think those not familiar with the culture would still be entertained.
The Sandra Bullock look-alike on the cover was very distracting. I put the book face down whenever I had to attend to life (although that wasn't often-this was really good and I just wanted to read and avoid those pesky details of real life). If covers are your thing, and this isn't the cover for you, ignore it and give the book a try. It is such a good read!
I liked the characters, and the regular citizen being pulled into helping the FBI made for such a fun story. There were intense moments broken up with great laughs. The online dating scene added so much to this story. I can't wait to read it again.
Starts out like a cheesy romcom, but gets a little more suspenseful as it goes. Jacklyn (goes by Jack) is a single member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and also a member of a single's dating site for church members. When a girl in her area and who has many of the same characteristics of Jack goes missing, law enforcement gets involved and suddenly Jack is dating the same guys the missing girl dated to figure out if they are good guys or bad guys. More to it than that, but the rest you'll just have to read it to find out. It was a fun read, clean, and just enough cheesy romance and jokes to make it a great book. And there are two more in the series to read now. =)
This book is so fun to read. This book is very well written my favorite character is Jack. Jack is a girl and she is in college. She loves old movies. She is single. Jack is enlisted by the FBI to go undercover. She goes on dates with suspects of a kidnapping. This book is very intriguing and i didn't want to put it down. It is also very romantic it has a great love story between Jack and the FBI agent Damion. I LOVE THIS BOOK! Everyone should read it.
I loved the romance in this book! It was never sappy, and the characters felt so very real. The mystery was also quite well done. Unfortunately, the heroine is a little dense for my taste. At times, even smack-my-head stupid. It's ironic that she wants to be a spy, because she's terribly ill-suited. She can't lie to save her life, she tends to panic, and she processes information very slowly. However, Kari Iroz is a great writer, and I look forward to reading everything she writes. :)
I loved this book! I loved the main character Jacklyn, better known as Jack. She's been single long enough to have a pretty good system down for all of the wedding receptions she's gone to. I love the way she talks and thinks about them. And I had to laugh when one of her snarky comments at a table full of single young women made a girl cry. Oops!
This book takes a different twist than you normally see in these young single adult romances. One day while at work, Jack is "abducted" by some men in suits. They take her to an FBI office where she meets none other than a young man who has been following her for the last couple of days. Jack is asked to date a bunch of young men who have contacted her on a social media dating site because there is another young woman who is missing and the two of them had many of the same guys contact them on this site. Jack knows this is probably going to be a dangerous job, but hey, it beats restocking clothes at Forever 21!
I love Jack's courage in this book. I love the way that even though she's not sure she wants to take the job, she does it to keep other young women safe and hopefully find the missing young woman before it's too late. And later in the book, she puts herself in danger several times when she thinks she's found a good lead.
I also liked Damon. I liked that he was a gentleman and was always looking out for Jack. I loved the way his character went from indifferent to her and almost mean to caring and loving towards her.
I loved the plot of this one. Jack goes from pretty much one bad date to another and near the end one dangerous situation to another. The plot kept my interest and I wanted to know just what would happen for her.
This is a great book filled with suspense, funny situations and a touch of romance too! I didn't want to put it down.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
There are a lot of romantic suspense books written every year. And unfortunately, all too many of them feel the same. This one feels different in a couple of ways. First, I loved the heroine, Jack (short for Jacklyn). She feels so much like a regular girl, the kind I would love to be friends with. She's attending college, working at the mall, and trying to put up with everyone's pushing her to get married. I loved her commentary on life, especially dating. Jack says what she feels, no beating around the bush for her. Jack's attitudes make this book quite amusing to read, despite the fact that she's working with the FBI to try to locate a missing girl. The dates she goes on are pretty bad for the most part, which anyone who has dated can relate too. The sparks that fly between Jack and her FBI handler, Damon Wade, make for some entertaining reading. At the same time, Jack is a faithful, believing member of the LDS church and Damon is an estranged member which causes some more serious issues between them as their attraction develops into something more. I also enjoyed the mystery itself, trying to figure out who is actually behind the kidnapping of the girl. And while Jack is a rather amusing spy, she's also very determined to help this unknown girl in trouble. Great read.
I began this book excited- I love the mix of mystery/suspense/adventure combined with clean romance. By the second page I was completely hooked! The author literally had me laughing out loud with her humor and witty similes. I could easily relate to our protagonist in many ways as I am also a member of the LDS faith (a Mormon) and have seen the actual setting so many times that I could easily picture each scenario. The mystery had me guessing til the end. The romance was clean and our two main characters' dialogue was great. The only problem I had with the book was that I felt the ending was a bit rushed. There is an epilogue, but I felt like the author should have made the epilogue the last chapter of the book instead, and then added an epilogue that takes place later on. I hope to see more from this author in the future!!!
I had mixed feelings about this book. The first chapter was hilarious. I was laughing and smiling and couldn't wait for the next chapter. From there I felt like Jack almost had a split personality for a little while. She jumped through emotions and thought processes in a way I couldn't follow. However, by the middle of the book I was sucked in and loved the rest of it. Once Jack settled into one personality things fell into place and I enjoyed her story. I loved the banter between Jack and Damon. There were good clues scattered throughout the book in a way that you didn't realize it was a clue until the end. It is a good read once you get past the first little bit. It's a clean read that I can recommend to anyone who loves suspense, mystery novels with a dash of romance.
Dang, this book was funny! I found the cover a bit off-putting (too much of a Sandra Bullock wanna be look) but Jack was a hoot! This book maybe isn't the most realistic, lol, but clean, funny and entertaining.
This book is so much more than I thought it would be! It has humor, mystery, adventure, romance, and heart. And I loved the spiritual elements, too. Loved it.
This book has so many “Mormon” cultural references that, unless you attended BYU, you wouldn’t understand anything in the first few chapters. I practically threw it across the room, it frustrated me so much with reducing my religion to stereotypes and a pursuit of marriage. Additionally, parents are horrible!!! The mom only cares about if her children are married, not that Jack is 25 and not through college. Jack also doesn’t have a roommate, despite being single and poor. And an aunt would get kicked out of my home if she treated anyone in my family like this aunt treated the protagonist. Jack goes to church to ogle guys, not actually worship—frustrating to say the least.
That said, if I hadn’t been totally bored and intrigued by the concept, I would have destined this for the recycling bin. However, I was bored and it picked up. There were some odd things that I think could have been easily solved—like when Jack believes she is being kidnapped, but is really being asked to help the FBI—she could easily have been shown (or asked to see) a badge. After that moment, it really picked up. I ended up really liking the book, well, except for the first few chapters. It still had a few too many references to things not understood off BYU campus, but I do like romance/adventure/spy novels. While I knew who the “bad guy” was early in the book, I liked getting there. I came to enjoy Jack’s sense of humor.
It’s not a perfect book, but it’s good when it gets going. I almost gave it four stars, but the first few chapters almost put me off. I wished it had a more positive view of religious people instead of showing them as only going to church to look at other singles and having too many local references, not easily understood by those outside of Provo (tunnel singing). I did go buy the next book in the series. It’s nice escape fiction if you have attended BYU—so limited appeal.
This was a fun book! I picked it up because I needed a mystery to read that sounded interesting to me, and the fact that this was written in Utah, taking place where I actually live, was the deciding factor fr me opening it up. I didn't have high hopes for this book. I assumed it was going to be this half built mystery overshadowed by romance. I'm glad to be wrong. Jack is a fun protagonist and it's rare that a book makes me laugh out loud- especially when it's not even from an action happening within the book, but just the narrators mind being goofy. I actually had fun while reading this. The mystery is simple, "someone is kidnapping girls, who could it be" but I have to admit that when I thought I knew who it was, the mystery turned out to be not simple enough to be so predictable, yet still logical to the plot. Would definitely recommend. Just know the protagonist is religious, Mormon to be precise, and so its sort of a humorous take on the religion, without being insulting.
Fun! The book started out kind of slow for me, too many iconic stories about being single. After the intrigue started with the FBI, it took off. It's rare with my life these days that I read past the time I should turn out the lights, but this book kept me engaged and reading long past my bedtime! I liked Jack and Damon and their relationship. There were times I actually laughed out loud with their interactions. The suspense part well-done. I was able to figure out the culprit about the same time that Jack did. The ending was a bit dramatic and the part with her father seemed irrelevant to the story. The book was written in first-person present tense, but the flow was so smooth that I didn't seem to notice. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
“A Date With Danger” is a mystery book that is based in Orem Utah. It is a fun book about a relatable, fun, and young college student who is attending Utah Valley University. Because of different circumstances, Jack (the main character of the book) has to work with the FBI to help solve a missing person’s case. I enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was funny, suspenseful, and kept my interest. Thought the book, it was fun seeing how the story evolved and how the ending completed and correspond to the book. My only complaint was that it was very cheesy, and sometimes I felt like the main character was a little immature. However, overall I thought this was a very well written book. I gave this book a four out of five stars.
4.5 I read this book on recommendation from a friend and wasn’t super interested, but wow I ended up really enjoying it!! It’s a mystery set in Utah and of course includes some great romance along with it! This book reminded me of the 2003 movie Pride and Prejudice: A Latter-Day Comedy, but unlike the movie didn’t go to far in it’s “Mormon” stereotypes. Of course that’s just my opinion.
I also enjoyed that it touched on an important subject, that not all people that profess to follow a certain religion are perfect or always nice. They are still human and can make errors or do bad things. But that doesn’t mean the gospel of the religion is incorrect.
This book is pure silliness but fun silliness and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were multiple laugh out loud parts and a few eye roll parts but it had suspense, romance and mystery with a few twists thrown in. I really needed just a good sappy book. The fact that I read a ebook in a week really shows how hard it was to put down :) It doesn't show it in the description, but this is the first in a series, the second book is Mormon Girl Incognito. My daughter read that one first but said, there had to be a book before it, on bookshelf this one is ebook but not audio. The 2nd book has both ebook and audio.
