I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Imagine a world where zombies exist. Yes they are scary looking and do try to kill you. Then the New Alliance, a powerful military group swoops in with a vaccine and now all the zombies are dead. With aiding us with the vaccine, the New Alliance has taken control of the country. Jenna lives with her mom in a crappy apartment and they try to live life as best they can. After her dad died, Jenna's mom hasn't been the same. Out of the blue the company her dad worked for bursts into the apartment and starts accusing them of hiding her dad. Um hello her dad is dead! Jenna is taken by them and is held hostage. She learns that her dad had a lot of secrets. Jenna escapes with the help of her dad's former assistant Wesley. Together they try to find her dad and maybe some answers like why he faked his own death.
As I began reading this book I didn't know what kind of zombie story this would be. I was pleasantly surprised! This story wasn't like anything I have read before. There are lots of twists! The author did a great job developing the characters. I hope there is a second book!! If you like books about zombies and want to read a different but awesome kind of story, I highly recommend this book! I give it 5 stars

A real cracker! This book has so many appeals. It is a dystopian YA book in essence, however it is completely unique in that it is based much further along the line. Meet Jenna, who has only known life since the apocalypse and therefore the regime that was borne from it. She lives with her mother after her fathers death, however, when his old colleagues break into her flat, her mother and her realise that things were not quite as they thought. This book is very well written, the characters are brilliantly depicted and the descriptions of the settings are vivid. This was such an enjoyable book and easily rivals the likes of the Hunger Games, I can't wait for the next in the series.

After is a great book with elements of resident evil but for a YA audience. Jenna lives with her mom in former Manhattan. The country is ruled by the New Alliance, a group of ruthless soldiers who have complete control over the inhabitants.
It's an interesting take, the real threat here is the Alliance while the zombies are practically 'everyday' to people because they have lived with the threat of them for so long. Definitely worth reading whatever age you are.

After follows the point of view of two people. The first is Jenna who’s just trying to get by after her father apparently committed suicide. A few chapters in we meet Wesley who is just a couple years older than Jenna and is the former research assistant to her father. These two live in a world where the fear and panic of an outbreak of zombies is a very real thing. Jenna gets a surprise visit from her father’s previous employers–he worked at the company that developed the zombie virus cure–who seem to think she’s still alive. They take her to a facility where she sees Wesley. The two are essentially being held hostage, Jenna to lure her father out of hiding and Wesley to recreate the work on Jenna’s father’s project Genesis. The two form an alliance and help one another escape in an effort to find help from someone Wesley believes to be Jenna’s father. Once they are ‘safe’ they realize that it is not for long and everything is not at all what it seems in Jenna’s life.
The world that Jenna and Wesley live in isn’t described a lot in detail. We get the main points which make it so that we know generally what’s going on and don’t get confused. To me, it sounds like the world is sort of a post World War Z world. They developed a ‘cure’ for the zombie virus and for now things are mostly calm. I would’ve loved to have more detail about the previous zombie outbreak and more world-building. What was done in the book was sufficient enough so we knew what was going on but it’s all so intriguing that you start itching for more.
Jenna as a character is pretty cool. She’s just trying to get by in the beginning and after everything begins to unfold she gains this drive to discover the truth about what’s happening. Jenna’s also a badass character because of a certain thing that I won’t talk about, but it definitely makes her badass. Wesley is a strange character. I didn’t much like him in the beginning because he was whiny and resented to entire world. However, as the story progresses and we get a little of his history, it’s very obvious why is he the way that he is. When he realizes he has feelings for Jenna, his personality gets more attractive. She sort of changes him, giving him something to care about so that’s pretty adorable when you’re reading it.
The action and horror in After is very well done. It’s fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Samantha obviously took a lot of time constructing the action sequences in her head before putting it all down on paper. And oh the horror! I haven’t read very many horror novels–at least not as many as I’d like to–but this one was great. There’s parts that are scary but it’s not too overwhelmingly creepy. The description of the zombies was great, I could get a picture in my mind of how they looked stalking after someone.
All of that being said, my issue with After was that I wanted more. It’s a very quick, short read. It’s just under 200 pages in length and because of the action and plot, it reads fast. Because of this, I feel it would’ve been great to add in more. Not an extension of the plot after the ending, but more detail. After could’ve used more world building with regards to the first zombie outbreak. It also would’ve been really interesting to read more about the ‘cure’ and all the experiments that Jenna’s father worked on.
Overall, I enjoyed After a lot. It was a great zombie novel with project Genesis showing a new take on the subject. I’m hooked for what happens next for Jenna and Wesley–especially after that ending!–and would definitely recommend it to all you zombie-loving people out there.

This book, man! I was unsure about it starting out, not knowing this author and having read some rather awful zombie books in the past few months (don't look for reviews, they would have been one star and I won't leave those unless I agreed to an honest opinion; I had bought those on my own). But, while it took me a little bit to get into the story due to my trepidation, once it sucked me in, I was hooked.
I know this book is meant to be more for teens and young adults, but as *coughs and covers up the number* year old woman, I still really loved it! Poor Jenna, her life, strange and difficult as it is already, gets everything turned upside down on her. She's a good, strong character, and I loved the way this author wrote about all of her characters. For me, the story flowed very well, and I was always left hanging on, needing to know what happened in the next chapter.
I was reading on into the night last night, then BAM! The end of the book. I don't know how much longer until the second installment, but I certainly hope it's soon!!! So, yes. Cliffhanger warning! I myself don't mind them, but if you do, you might wait until the next book is out to read this. But you really should read it.

After is a great book! It’s compelling read, and not just your typical zombie story. It had me hooked from the first page and the action does not stop throughout the book. Fans of Legend by Marie Lu and Divergent by Veronica Roth will enjoy this book.
This book is hard to review without giving away spoilers but it takes place in dystopian America. The main character Jenna is still grieving over her father’s death. He was the most important scientist working a cure for a deadly plague. The plague is being controlled by the government, and everyone infected turns into a zombie. The story behind the plague and Jenna’s world is very creative and interesting. The details describing the zombies are so powerful, making the story truly come to life. Jenna is taken away from her mother by the AS, the government’s soldiers as they demand her father’s whereabouts. She is taken to an underground lab where she find Wesley, a young scientist-in-training and her dad’s previous assistant. Their only chance for survival is to escape and to help each other. Thus begins their suspenseful tale of adventure, love and action. Jenna learns more about herself, her father and her world than she ever thought. She is a strong and intelligent character that readers will grow to love.

Great zombie novel. Doesn't overdo the zombies and focuses more on the main character and her plight. Jenna's dad has supposedly killed himself but when his boss kidnaps her, she realises that everything isn't as it seems. Her dad was a top scientist for a company called Gene Pharm. he helped come up with the vaccine against zombies.
Trapped in an underground cell, Jenna has no choice but to team up with her dad's old lab assistant whom she hates.
Told in dual prospective this novel is a must read for zombie fans.

I was given a free copy of this book to review. Truth to tell, I was worried when she sent it to me, I've read some bad zombie stories. But as I thoroughly enjoyed Daemon Persuasion when I reviewed it for her, I thought I'd give it a chance. I am happy I did. Now she just needs to finish writing the others so I can finish reading them.

What a riveting story. Gregory's take on zombies is original and her storytelling is fast-paced. There was action, there was intrigue and there was love: the three key ingredients to creating the most memorable stories. And the ending... Wow! What happens next?!

Jenna grows up in a world where a corporation controls everything. The world is in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, but are all the zombies gone? When Gene-Pharm comes to her door insisting her father, a former scientist for Gene -Pharm is still alive, while Jenna had believed him dead by his own hand. Suddenly Jenna finds her self on the run with no idea why the corporation wants to capture her so badly. The characters in this book are solid and it is an interesting story. I recommend this series to fans of the genre.

Jenna is thrown together with Wesley, her father’s protégé at one time. He too is being held by Gene-Pharm, trying to complete Jenna’s father’s unfinished work. Jenna doesn’t trust him any more than she does the company, but the two may have to team up if they want to get out of this alive!

I loved this book! The main character Jenna was great, unlike so many characters she doesn't start out strong but rather develops her strength as the story goes on and she has to handle all the awful things that are thrown at her. Also, I thought Wesley was a great character too and I liked that they didn't instant fall in love, rather they pretty much hated each other to begin with and love and trust developed as they were thrown together.
Also, this isn't your usual zombie novel, there was action right from the start and throughtout the story, but the plot was clever with lots of twists and it wasn't all about blood and gore.
My only problem with this book was that it ended too quickly and I want to know what happens next! I can't wait to read the next instalment.
