Hiding from the mob, journalist Nathan Davies chronicles the amazing life and times of the notorious gentleman thief, Zachary Landon. Living under a government issued identity, Davies finds himself tangled in the web of Landon's bold and expanding criminal enterprise and as the risk increases so does the danger. Scars, Love, Murder and Marriage all come into play as Davies friendship grows with Landon and a mutual trust is built. Even with his freedom on the line, the size of the score is of no concern. For Landon, who you target is more important than what you target. You can gamble with your freedom, but always be Two Steps Ahead.
I expected something along the lines of Leverage. Disappointed, couldn't get through this. Reading it was written by a journalist explains how it's more dryer report than book.
( Format : Audiobook ) ""...the romantic power of imagination "" The unconventional schemings of 'Gentleman Thief' Zachary Landon continue to.be chronicled by the admiring journalist, Nathan Davies in five short stories. Landon is a rogue with a fine imagination when it comes to acquiring monies and valuables not his own. But this time not all of his plans go smoothly ... and he relies on the kindness of women. As before, Rich McVicar's narration is superb, the perfect voice to read these stories, breathing life into the often bizarre characters. Think Sherlock Holmes and his adventures. But instead of crime fighting, Landon is the one creating the criminal havoc. Intriguing and twisting plots, an unconventional hero, humorous and atmospheric writing and a superb narration - great book, recommended. Two Steps Ahead: Memoirs of a Gentlemen Thief W.C. Hoffman. Narrated by Rich McVicar
The narrator was great. He is someone I would listen to again.
WC Hoffman is an interesting author to say the least. This book is so different from the other one we listened to. You can tell some authors have a formula they follow to tell a story or they write the same type of stories - not so with this author.
Each chapter is a short story by itself. Zachary Landon is not your typical thief. The stories he tells Nathan Davies about his adventures in crime are well thought out crimes. The last chapter in this book was my favorite.
