Eh...?
Aura is a scraper. As in she hauls scrap in for cash. Her current find is a big metal sphere with a life sign. And a lot of pirates looking to take it for themselves.
Spoilers ahead.
So much doesn't make sense. I remember reading these years ago and when they popped up as freebies I grabbed them. I'd just forgotten why I never read past the first 2.
*Marauders are conquerors. Of a sort. They arrive, interbreed, move on. They're trying to improve some fertility issues that are never explained.
*The Marauders study Earth. Learn the language, but don't learn culture? It adds to the humor so I let that slide. But how do they have bear DNA? They aren't human. They've never visited Earth. The ears and form don't make sense as bear. Could have said they resembled what humans called bears. Made them slightly different, outside being purple, than Earth bears. But him, an alien, calling themselves bears doesn't really work.
*We never learn about his culture. Their religion(s), habits- other than nudity, how they choose leaders, how they managed to survive before space travel to breed in fertility,... Zip.
*Aura is supposed to be independent but isn't really. She giggles, stares at the naked alien, jumps him, and is happily pregnant without learning what happened to her sister, her ship, what's going to happen to them, what this "war" will bring.
*Why does Earth want this war?
I don't know. There were interesting background points, humor, but the romance wasn't very romantic. The relationship never developed, just poofed into existence without any build. The stage isn't really set. The actors are amusing but shallow. Character driven, world driven or plot driven- this had elements but gave them all up for sex scenes. If you're looking for depthless steam, sure. But a series of the same doesn't interest me.
