LOSE YOUR HEART TO WILD ROMANCE!
Kayla has always been a sucker for strays--baby gorillas, okapis, even rhinos--so when an American doctor shows up wounded at her door, with a story of being pressed into service as medic to a local militia unit, Mark LeSabre is just another stray to be taken in and taken care of.
Then Ushindi's controversial election tips the tiny nation into civil war, and Kayla's beloved ancestral coffee plantation becomes a casualty of the escalating conflict. Forced to flee, Kayla's determined not to leave any of her workers--or her strays--behind, including Mark, who's found his way into her heart...and her bed.
But a rich American doctor is too valuable a prize to let escape. Thwarted at every border access, with the militia hot on their tail, Kayla and Mark's only option for freedom is to brave a treacherous jungle route across the Mountains of the Moon. Alone, they might make it to Uganda and safety, but their ragtag group of strays will surely perish if they're abandoned.
How far will Mark and Kayla risk their lives--and their hearts--in the service of love? ______

This is book three in the Wild Hearts Romance Series. The book is told from both POV with alternating chapters. This is great because we are able to understand what both the heroine and hero are thinking. The setting for this story is in Africa. This heartwarming book was well written with developed characters. Grabs you at the beginning and tears at your heart. Quite a journey through the Congo. I originally purchased this book in 2016 but recently received a complimentary copy via a promotion and voluntarily chose to review it.
This one was the best. I love the trek through the jungles with Kayla and Mark and their "family." Love those babies and the love that grew between Mark and Kayla, homeless, but at home with their babies (an okapi, a rhino, a mountain gorilla, and a Rottweiler).
I definitely recommend this book. It says so much about the strength of the human spirit and how strongly we value family, no matter what format it takes.
This was a really intriguing book. Okay, I'll admit it --- I was pretty bored as I skimmed the sex chapters in the middle. *But* the story on either end was fascinating, set in a fictional African country that spent the last ten years as an independent offshoot of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The heroine who takes in stray wildlife (rhinos, gorillas, American doctors) was well done and the landscape was very believable. I just wished there'd been a longer author's note to let me know whether Sullivan made it all up wholecloth or whether she's had firsthand experience with the region.
When I started this book, I was excited to find that it took place in Africa. I initially liked the characters, and the independence and heritage of Kayla. I was intrigued about learning what life in Africa might be like, the descriptions of the environment and animals, and the danger elements of civil war. I got the impression that this was well researched and realistic. However, I was disappointed in the main characters and choices they made so early on in the story to be casually intimate. I felt it really detracted from the story.
