Brian Roy, ghostbuster extraordinaire, is forced to admit the chills and thrills of his career are taking a toll on his bad ticker. To save his life, he takes a no-stress job as superintendent of Woods Cemetery and can't be happier...until dead people - angry dead people - rear their grisly heads and grasping hands, pulling him back into his old job!
Brian's first day quickly goes downhill when fog descends like an icy fortress, separating him from the outside world. Caught between a rock and a tombstone, he takes refuge in his office and learns there may be one way out: the crypt.
Ruled by a malevolent spirit, the crypt and its undead residents are determined to make Brian their latest victim. When Brian's wife, Jenny, learns what's happening, she takes matters into her own hands. With the help of a ghost hunter, Jenny goes after her husband.
But nothing - absolutely nothing - can prepare them for the horrors they'll face!
Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.

After the events of the last book, Brian and Jenny have decided to put their ghost hunting days behind them because Brian is lucky to be alive. Brian gets a job as a caretaker at a cemetery but right from the start he learns that leaving the dead behind is not as easy as he hopes.
This edition was the creepiest yet!! Right from the start the action and scares start and it doesn't let up. Poor Brian is in for a fight like no other and even Jenny will have to get involved to save her husband. The setting was perfect too. A cemetery is always a creepy place but the way the Paupers Crypt was, just made it that much scarier. Imagine being stuck in a place like that!!! It was expertly written and developed and was by far my favourite place in the series.
Poor Brian and Jenny don't get a break. I've become invested in these characters and hate to see them suffer, but it wouldn't be a Ron Ripley book if his characters don't suffer some bit ;) Lol. Our old favourites are back and we see some new faces too. The big bad in this book was seriously creepy!! I can only imagine what he was like when he was alive!!
In all, this was dark, creepy, fast paced and the best one yet. I'm really looking forward to the next book and highly recommend this series, and indeed, the author too!!
Thom Bowers has come a long way as a narrator. He has an array of tones and voices for the different characters and always manages to bring the atmosphere to life too. I remember him reading earlier books and to listen to him now is awesome. He has fast become one of my favourite narrators.
I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
Brian is ready to be finished with the ghost business once and for all, but it is not done with him. As he starts a new job, the dead hunt him down. One in particular wants to kill him and his wife.
Brian must not only save his wife but another person who has been trapped in the crypt for many years. Time is running out, and the dead are hungry...
I make no apologies for raving about this author. The fast paced and brutal hauntings are entirely my cup of tea. The location being set in a graveyard this time around just topped everything off nicely. The new characters interact nicely with the existing ones, fitting straight into the storyline with ease - just as well as the instant carnage and brutal slayings have been changed up to a more creepy 'boxed in with no escape' idea. Fans of James Herbert and George A Romero may well get something out of this story as there are factors that hint at some classic times.
Book 6 will have to be truly special to top this one - bring it on.....
The fifth book in the Moving In series is The Paupers’ Crypt. Naturally, after having completed the first four books – Moving In, The Dunewalkers, Middlebury Sanitarium and The First Church, I had to pick this book up.
Among the four books in the Moving In series, I guess this one is the best I have read so far. It is haunting and gripping, scary in the true sense when Brian is trapped inside the crypt, alone in the darkness. And, it gets more interesting when Jenny decides to save her husband by getting into the cemetery herself.
"Book 1 Moving In: This was an entertaining story. I do have questions after finishing the story.....I am rating 4 stars for now. I know that this is a series so it is possible that some of the questions will be answered in later installments. It is entertaining enough that I will continue on with the series. Book 2 The Dunewalkers: Ok. Still a four star book. I do feel like some of the questions remaining from the first book were answered in this book. That is good. I am still going to continue to rate this as a 4 star book. While the story is entertaining, I do feel like things could be wrapped up a bit tidier at the end.....I am still entertained enough to continue on with the series. Book 3 Middlebury Sanitarium: Still 4 stars. Some of the questions from the first book were never answered. Also, each individual ""ghost case"" presents it's own set of questions. I still feel some of those should have been answered better. Book 4 The First Church: So far, I seem to be pretty consistantly rating these at 4 stars. The stories are still entertaining. The characters are still fun. I do wish that each book was a bit longer so more things could be explained/explored. Book 5 The Pauper's Crypt: An entertaining enough story. Again, there is enough story for it to be worth the read. Still 4 stars. Book 6 The Academy: Same conclusion. Four stars. I may try this collection for a second time and take notes as I go. There seem to be things that are never answered and things within the ghost ""lore"" of this series that change to serve the purpose of the story. I do get a bit annoyed by these kinds of inconsistencies. I did, however, enjoy this series enough to continue on to the Berkley Street series. It is the story of Shane which is a character that was in this series a bit."
The story continues Brian has been ghost hunting for years. He is known to have a bad heart. As his wife (Jenny) insists he give it up and find another job. So he starts a job as a local caretaker of a cemetery. He thinks his lifejust got quieter but he wasn't counting on having an evil preacher being trapped in one of the crypts. I love our know characters Shane, Carl, Sylvia, and Leo make an appearance in this book. I loved their characters. The storyline is well developed with some of the ghost being creepy scary. You wonder will poor Brian get out alive. The characters are believable and interesting. I love Ron Ripley as an author and love Thom Bowers as the narrator. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book.
The preacher in the pauper's crypt, in the potter's field, in the polyandrium Hoping to give his ticky ticker a breather, Brian Roy takes a job as a groundskeeper at the Woods Cemetery. But when an icy fog locks traps them within the graveyard, he realizes that retirement from ghosthunting isn't in the cards for him. As the dead start rising out of their graves and chasing him down, he knows he must find the evil preacher who is calling them all forward to do his bidding, who is down in the pauper's crypt. A creepy and terrifying read.
I LOVE this series! Brian is a ghost hunter who decides to stop doing that and take a job as caretaker in a cemetary.Bad choice! The ghosts find him and they are not the friendly type.Dragged back into the life his wife and friends try to come to the rescue. Andrew Tell is the perceft narrator for this.“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”
Another scary supernatural book involving the dead against the living. I’m glad Brian had help in this book otherwise I do not know if he would have made it out alive. These ghosts have some serious issues that require strong willed people to contain them. After reading this book, I dreamed I was trapped in a crypt. I am not sure if I made it out but I am alive so I must have!
Another excellent book in this series! Was happy to see a few familiar characters. Great writing and attention to details, as always! Sad that I'm fixing to start the last book of the series!
This for me was def the best in the series soo far .Just wondering what's happened to Leo's Grandmother !! Can't understand how Brian did not have better protection available Shane always did in Barkley square series .
Better than The First Church, I enjoyed the Shadow Realms and this set of ghosts were spookier. Still think the Middlebury Sanitorium is my favorite of the series though. There's just something about an old sanitarium.
This one definitely has taken the place for my favorite in the series! It had you sitting on the edge of your seat not knowing what was going to happen next. The books in this series just keeps getting better and better. So excited for the last one!
Another ghost story adventure, Brian is a caretaker of a cemetery, things don't go to plan. Easy fun gory ghostly. Shane Ryan makes an appearance. Easy, fun , gory and ghostly.
I was lucky enough to have gotten a free audio book code from the Scare Street. I am volunteering to leave this review. Awesome audio book and fantastic series.
After dealing with cardiac issues for numerous novels, the main character has decided to give up ghost hunting. The choice of jobs -- managing a graveyard, might not have been the best decision.
I loved this book. I kinda giggled at Brian and John I believe it was. Great book and I was sorry that this book ended. I will say that I really enjoyed Leo and Sylvia coming to help rescue Brian!
Brian has a bad heart and has worked as ghost buster for many years. Yes...A GHOST BUSTER ! But his wife Jenny has convinced him to take a quieter type of employment..so Brian is now working as a caretaker at a local cemetery. Nothing can be quieter, right? But what they haven't counted on is that an EVIL PREACHER IS TRAPPED IN DEATH, IN ONE OF THE CRYPTS. This SUPERNATURAL HORROR OF A MYSTERY IS A SERIES YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE. They are st a nd alone stories, but to really enjoy I RECOMMEND you read them all. They will keep you up nights..they are that good. I RECOMMEND
I have read each book in this series and think this one is the best yet. Plenty of twists and turns kept me reading. Learning who controlled the ghosts and what his past was really ramped up the creepiness factor. I know I will think of this story anytime I have to visit a cemetery. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
