What if the man you need isn't on Earth? My name is Sophie McCallistair. I've spent years fighting Earth's overpopulation problems, and I've just become the leader of Single for Life. I thought I was vacationing on Biyaha to help a friend. I didn't realize the boy I knew as a child had grown up to be mysterious and powerful. It's a struggle to keep our hands off each other, and when the government learns some of Khellen's secrets, they put him in jail. It's up to me to help him escape. I won't be able to rescue him without facing my feelings. How can I fall in love while remaining Single for Life? Origins is the eleventh book in the TerraMates series, science fiction romance books about a mail-order bride agency for aliens. There are no cliffhangers, and each book contains a happily-ever-after ending!
ORIGINS is the 11th book in Lisa Lace's TerraMates series, but goes back to explain why the agency was started... thus the title. I love that Ms. Lace always has a fresh take on the alien planets and how the cultures are different from that of earth's yet shows enough commonalities to show they are in the end just two people falling in love. As I've come to expect of the books in this series there is danger, suspense, and drama for the young couple before they find they realize they have fallen in love.
Sophie McCallistair, was from Earth at a time when overpopulation was a very serious issue. She was an intelligent woman who wanted to be part of the solution and had a successful career with an agency called Single for Life that advocated a commitment to never marry or bear children. She had just received a promotion, which per the agency's policy requires she take a few weeks leave of absence to vacation before settling in to her new position. She goes to visit her friend, Khellen, who lives on Biyaha and she had met when they were much younger at a virtual reality camp.
Biyaha's population is dwindling and to prevent their people from dying out completely they have strict laws about marriage and against preventing the birth of children. They encourage married couples to have large families and have strict penalties if you don't marry before a certain age. Khellen understands the reasons for his planet's laws, but has always hoped to marry for love. He is just about to reach the age where he will be forced to marry when Sophie, his longtime friend comes for a surprise visit.
Never having actually met, neither had any idea how fiercely they would be attracted to each other or the problems it would create for the both of them. These two faced many challenges before they realized they wanted to spend their life together. Very good story and I enjoyed learning how TerraMates originated from the inevitable love of Sophie and Khellen. I listened to the audiobook and was impressed with the narrator's storytelling. 4 stars.
~Complimentary audiobook received. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
well that was the shortest of the terramates series I think, it was a little fun and a little frustrating at some point because sophie and callen were being difficult each damn jajaja I wanted to be there and just told them just love each other you know you want it. but the idea of how terramates formed was cool and at the end they did stayed together at last and damn sophie was a shark at terramates but it was necessary.
So this was how TerraMates program became what it was
Well when I read the intro to the book I was confused in the last book she left a sneak peak and said Sophie Lynch but the intro said Sophie McCallistair so I thought okay just another screw up but no this is the book that tells how TerraMates became what it is today...but there were still some mess ups in the story line in my opinion but hey that's my opinion so Sophie commits to this Single for Life and makes a vow to never get married or have children cause u know that's the only answer when you live in a over populated world right??? The way she described earth in no way matches up with the way the other women described earth in the previous books...she described earth as being so over populated that their was a severe shortage of water so bad that people no longer took real showers also at the end of the book when Sophie is back on Earth with Kellen she has started the program and she starts off by saying "A girl came in today" and she told him all about her interview with the girl and how she called her ugly that was the book about the girl that was sent to the world that had no technology if I'm not mistaken that was like the 4th or so book it most definitely wasn't the first but when you read that you would have thought she was one of their first clients anyways little stuff like that drives me crazy this authors writing never matches up how can you forget something you wrote that's like a musician forgetting the words to a song they created! Anyways I give this one 2 stars because it didn't bore me to tears I did skim through a bunch of the ending but I read more then I did in some of the others so I guess that's better but really she really knows how to make her characters sound really stupid they get so twisted up in their drama and then magically it all gets resolved in the last couple chapters in every book it amazes me how many positive reviews this series has gotten cause seriously it's not that good.
We're going back in time to see where the concept for TerraMates began.
Sophie is from Earth and from a time when the planet was horribly overpopulated, polluted and the verge of collapse. She works for Single for Life, which promotes non procreation, to give the Earth a chance to save itself from overpopulation. After getting a promotion she uses her bonus and mandatory holiday leave to finally visit her inter-galactic penpal, Khellen. He lives on Biyaha and as excited as she is to finally meet him, having an actual water based shower comes a close 2nd!
Biyaha's has the exact opposite problem of Earth. They have a declining population and their government is all about having them procreate! Bad things seem to happen to those who have not married by 25 and they just...disappear. Khellen is nearing his 25th birthday and the pressure is mounting for him to marry. But shock horror he doesn't want a marriage to only save him from disappearing, he actually wants to love the woman he marries! When his mother sets him up with Morda, he realises he may not get what he wants after all. But when Sophie arrives in time for the wedding, the poor sod feels himself pulled in all kinds of directions! You're not supposed to lust after your best friend when you're about to get married!
Good grief, these two just about set themselves up for failure! Both trying to not admit their feelings for one another. Mrs Lynch is also a bit of a cold fish and I really struggled to like her but Morda is definitely the one to watch! I loved finding out what actually happens to the Disappeared and I was gobsmacked! Great read!
Earth has too many people so Sophie decides she needs to join the Single For Life movement and promote the idea of no more children. The planet of Biyaha has the opposite problem and has passed a law that all citizens must be married by the age of 25 or they become one of the disappeared. Khellan is days away from his birthday when Sophie is told she has to take a vacation before she can start her new job as head of the North American Single For Life chapter. She decides to surprise Khellan to encourage him to get married because she would hate for him to disappear. This is where things take an unexpected turn, and where I quit telling you about the book. I loved this story! There were a few places where I was screaming at the characters because I thought they needed a swift kick in the butt, but watching Sophie and Khellan dance around the elephant in the room was very enjoyable. I loved the drama and angst. I also loved the chemistry between them. I know that this will be another one that I read over and over again.
I think this Terramates series would get old really fast if it weren't for the fact that Lisa Lace has created such a vast majority of different worlds. I think I'm going to have to go back through all of these and count the actual number of planets she has created. Khellen and Sophie have been futuristic pens pals for years. With Sophie's new promotion comes a mandatory vacation. What better way to spend it than with her best friend? Khellen has to marry by the age of 25 or else becomes one of the disappeared. Little did either of them know that their friendship becomes something more pretty much as soon as the meet each other in the flesh. I liked this one and it was interesting to read about Biyaha and their laws. I'm just slightly confused about Sophie's company she ends up having at the end.....maybe if Mrs. Lace reads this review she might be able to explain it?
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review it
This is a great story Sophie works for single for life, a group trying to save Earth which is grossly over populated, after she takes her vow when she is promoted she goes to visit her or owl Khellan, once there her ideals are sorely tempted
A great storyline, fantastic characters, romance, danger and excitement a real page turner, I could not put it down
Having read several books in the "TerraMates" series, I was excited to read this story. "Origins" tells the story about Sophie the founder of "TerraMates". While I admired Sophie's conviction and determination to help Earth's population issue, I thought she was a little self-centered at times. Her concern for only herself could have cost Khellen dearly.
*I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing*
A good sci-fi romance about a girl who doesn't intend to fall in love, and her pen-pal from another planet that has laws requiring marriage before the 25th Birthday. She goes to visit him after learning he doesn't plan to marry, so that she can encourage him to find a mate so they can still be friends. You can imagine what happens of course, but it's a good story!
What a beautiful read, best friends falling in love, over coming a major problem but I won’t tell you what, buy the book to find out. It’s gripping but also will melt your hearts. It did mine. Loved it. I was given this book as an arc for a honest review
Khellen & Sophie ♡ Friends to lovers with a twisty little story in between. Great fun exploring Khellen & Sophie's story...plus the peek of how TerraMates started. Fun read. Voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
It was interesting to learn the origin behind TerreMates. Sophia and Kellen's story made sense and was a romantic friends to Lovers story. Paul Brion and Kelly Morgan were interesting narrators for this book.
I really like this one. I loved Biyaha's landscape if not the customs. Earth sounded real bad off though, overpopulation is a real threat. It wasn't lost in me how there were still people who want to save it from ruin, I'd like to think I'm one of them. Saving Earth from humans is a full time job. I hope someday it will be accomplished.
Anywho, back to the coming together love story of two across galaxy pen pals. I love stories like this, although their denial and refusal to see what's before their eyes was hard to take at times and had me rolling my eyes in consternation I did have my share of laughs as well.
Was I going to follow my head or my heart? 5 GOLD LIFE BANDS
my heart was longing for something it could never have. If I wasn’t in love, I didn’t know what was happening to me. WOW! I cannot believe just how into this story I am!! What an ABSO-LOVING-LUTELY MATERRIFIC story!! This is one awesome book! I was sunk into its depths pretty much from the description and I only sunk deeper & deeper the more I read! Good thing the story had a great flow to it since I didn't have my life band on! wink Sophie is such an amazing person, willing to make sacrifices for what she believes in, even to the point where she isn't sure what her beliefs truly are! She is definitely a character I loved being and that I WANTED to be! And Khellen?!? WHEW!! How could you NOT fall for him?!?!! He is the epitome of The Perfect Mate even though he is so pink, from another planet & only almost 25 years old! And well... I'm not! wink I did cry through a good part of it but that is just one more way to say just how connected I was with both the characters & the story itself! This is actually only my second Lisa Lace novel, and while I am one very anal reader who must read everything in the correct reading order, I was so intrigued with the whole concept of a mail-order bride between planets & species when I read Water World Warrior, I was eager to read about how it all began! Of course, my “anal-ness” for reading order was eased with reading book 1, then book 11, then going back to catch up on the other books, being that this book is all about how and why TerraMates was started in the first place! It IS called Origins for a reason, right? *smiles innocently* Between the creative ingenuity of it all - the series concepts, the overall storylines as well as each stories plots, the exceptionally well-developed characters of numerous species, the multidimensional planets, the chance to see Earth through an Alien's eyes, as well as seeing a different Earth than ours (perhaps even a great look at what our planet COULD be if we don’t make changes now), just ALL OF IT is so ORIGINAL, so IMAGINATIVE, so… CREATIVE!! I know I keep using that word, but it just fits so perfectly!! Lisa has both blown me away and completely captivated me with her cosmic amount of talent, reinforcing my need, want & desire to now go back and read all of the other books in this series! ANY & ALL of Lisa's books as a matter of fact! Jumping from book 1 straight to book 11 has given me a unique vantage point, a rare opportunity even, in that I can definitely see just how much Lisa has grown as an author. I see a different level, more depth and enrichment overall to her writing that I didn't have with Water World Warrior, the connection I made to the story & the characters is not only deeper, but was almost immediate, there is just this different vibe almost, like Lisa has hit her strides and is loving writing this series as much as I am loving reading it! I do love Water World Warrior too, don't get me wrong, but with Origins that love is taken to a whole different level, to a different planet even! wink Trust me, this is one Out of this World series and STELLAR author that you NEED to read!
I was given this book by the author in exchange for honest review.
Origins (book 11 in the Terra mates series)
The story starts out with Sophie arguing with her mom about take a pledge with a group called single for life. It is a group that targets young people and gets the to take a pledge stating that the will no spouse and have no children to try and help the overpopulation problem that earth is having. After their argument she leaves and takes the pledge. (Oh and she also works of the the group single for life and just got a job promotion and is told to take a vacation before coming back to work.) When she gets back she has a message from her friend Khellen (he's from a planet that has the opposite of an overpopulation problem and are forced to marry by a certain age) and he was telling her that he doesn't want to disappear on his birthday cause he is not married. So Sophie decides she is going to surprise him for his birthday and visit him. Upon arrive there is instant chemistry but they both try to deny it as he has; Just gotten engaged to Morda ( I think she is a crazy B). Well they have an engagement party were the two women meet talk about awkward and then Morda has to go off planet for work sadly she arrives safely to the other planet but as soon as she arrives solar storms get bad and she doesn't think she will make it back in time for his birthday and tells him she's sorry but he'll have to find someone else (super happy about that so not a good person lol) Later he proposes to Sophie and tells her it can be a fake marriage and nobody has to know. So now happy with it but she goes through with and they try to hide the that their married but Morda returns and surya causing trouble for them and get the law involved and all hell breaks loose. By the end they have to prove they are married (not going to lie Sophie be come a badass); and they eventually end up living back on earth and she starts working with terra mates. I really liked this book a lot I just keep thinking how could they not see that they both felt the same for each other but I loved the way the story ends. It shows that sometimes thing we think we don't want turn out to be exactly what we need in life.

ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book and my opinions are honest!
This was a great read! Sophie thought that she would be single her whole life. Because of his planet's law, Khellen has to be marred by his 25th birthday. Khellen was set to marry someone he did not love, when Sophie show up to surprise him. By meeting Sophie, Khellen started to have 2nd thoughts. Something happened + Khellen had to marry Sophie. What started as a marriage of convenience turned into a marriage of love. I also loved how Sophie found another way to help w/ Earth's overpopulation.
Sophie is from Earth and determined not to add to the devastation that overpopulation has caused. She joins Single for Life and before she can accept her new promotion she has to take a vacation. The only place she can imagine is going to see her best friend, a man who up to now she has only had virtual contact with.
Khellen lives on a planet where you most be married and ready to reproduce by your 25th birthday, or face dire consequences. But he's never found the right woman. When he finally accepts a girl his mother forces on him, his best friend arrives from Earth. Maybe Sophie was what he was looking for all along.
Very interesting and unique set up for both Earth and the alien world, in regards to the people the laws that they find themselves having to live under. This was one of those books you get swept up in until....SCREECH (the record stops playing abruptly)......you want to slap a character silly! Yes, more than once I wanted to reach into my e-reader and slap Sophie! But she redeems herself before the end and HEA ensues. I liked Khellen but boy oh boy did he need to work on his communication skills. There was plenty of action and drama to keep the story exciting which I appreciate. The sexy scenes were well written and all kinds of fun to read! I enjoyed this story and I would recommend this one to lovers of romance, passion, hot alien stories or just a good story. But be warned you may want to smack sense into a character or two before you finish.
Origins reveals the founders of Terramates and what inspires them to start a mail-order bride services.
Sophia Lynch has planned to stay single in order to save Earth. Earth in the future, is not a hospitable place to live in. The population on earth has grew beyond its sustainability. While her friend Kellan on planet Biyaha has to married before his twenty-five birthday or be arrested for violating the law on Biyaha.
Sophia married Kellan to prevent him from going to jail but a jealous rival putted both of them in danger.
One of the thing that I liked about the story is that Sophia and Kellan kept thinking that they are friends only, without realizing that their friendship has developed into something more. Both are trying to wait for each other to confess their true feeling to each other but fear rejection. I love the friends into lovers theme.
Origins has all the elements of a future when earth is interacting with aliens from several planets. It goes on explaining of how over populated earth is but no ones have thought of living on other planets. The only thing the story doesn't really explain is what is the ratio of the female to male on earth. It seemed like there are more females than males on earth.
Great story in this Terramates series. Readers will find this story entertaining and discover other social traditions and cultures of the other planets.
I was given this ARC copy by the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated or influence in any way for writing this review.
Title: Origin Series: A TerraMates Novel Destination: Book 11, Author: Lisa Lace Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Genre: #SciFi #Aliens My Score: #5stars ☆☆☆☆☆
♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡ As I said in the books before every book is different which makes for a phenomenal series, in fact this really didn't have anything to do with TerraMates until the last couple pages. And isn't it just fitting who Sophia is for TerraMates, yep we've come full circle. Sophie Enya McCallistair love her planet Earth, but hated what earth had become. People didn't care about Earth anymore not only was it overpopulated but everything was garbage now. Sophie was head of the North American division of Single For Life. Being single for life not only did you take an oath but also never to get married or have children. Believeing this was going to help to fix earth overpopulation. Sophia believed this was her destiny. Khellen John Lynch is from the Planet Biyaha which is under populated and just outrageously beautiful, all the water what a way to live but paradise does have its problem. Yes Khellen would soon be one of the disappearing never to be seen again as the law say. Unless of course he gets married before his twenty fifth birthday. What will he do? I was gifted this book for an honest and truthful review.
The story of the origins of the TerraMates idea is told!! 4.3 stars
Earth can no longer support its population. Sophie work for Single for Life and is taking a pledge to remain unmarried and never have children. She believes that if enough of her generation does this, the Earth may recover. She has a daily “chat” with her friend Khellen from the planet Biyaha. Khellen’s planet has the opposite problem, and everyone is required to marry by the age of 25 to repopulate their planet. Those that do not follow the law disappear.
Sophie is required to take a break prior to accepting her new job after a promotion and decides to visit Khellen prior to his marriage, as he is about to turn 25. When Khellen’s fiancé is delayed on an interstellar trip, Sophia agrees to marry Khellen to avoid the unknown fate, but they will have to keep it secret from Sophie’s world, and it will be in name only and only last a year. Friends since they were 15, both battle an attraction between their grown-up selves that is hard to resist.
The attempt to “hide” the marriage works too well and Khellen disappears as the government arrests him for not being married. An exciting ride as Sophia tries to remedy the situation. But if she finds him, will he forgive her, and will she “keep” him?

Origins by Lisa Lace is the eleventh book in the TerraMates series and the end of the book marks the beginning of TerraMates.
Sophie is from Earth where it is overpopulated. She's part of an organisation called Single For Life and is very passionate about solving the overpopulation problem by vowing to stay single and barren.
Khellen is Sophie's penpal from the planet Biyaha. Biyaha has an under-populated problem and anyone who isn't married by the age of 25 gets arrested. Khellen is approaching his 25th birthday but he's still single.
Sophie decided to pay Khellen a surprise visit and to persuade him to get married. There was instant attraction the minute these two laid eyes on each other but they knew they weren't meant for each other. Somehow they just couldn't keep their hands to themselves and things transpired between them.
Khellen got himself arrested and Sophie went out of her way to save him. It was a happy ever after ending and Sophie decided to start TerraMates to solve the overpopulation problem on Earth.
I really enjoyed this short steamy read. I will happily devour the rest of this series!

This story turns out to be how TerraMates was started and why. Sophie was working for a company called single for life. To save earth for over population it was easy stop having kids. She was told to take a vacation before she started her new position in the company so she when to see her best friend who was on a planet that by law you were married and having babies by your 25th birthday or you just disappeared. We find out later in the book but ill let thst be a surprise lol. Khelen is two weeks from being 25 so his mom sets him up with a girl who turns out to be witch but as luck would have fate changed his life. To tell you more would spoil the story so ill just say. This is a story of 2 friends who realize they love each other almost to last and will do all they can to stay together. First love, growing emotions, and changing the plans you had for love. It's fast paced and a lot of fun to read. Even if you want to hit one or two of the characters over the head for being dense lol If your a syfy fan or just a romance fan you should enjoy this book. Book given for an honest review and I honestly loved it.
I received this audio book free for an honest review. I love Lisa Lace's stories. This one is no different. I would have liked it more if I had liked Kelly Morgan. She is not one of my favorites. I really don't like her voice and it is a shame that it can ruin an audiobook if you don't care for the person reading it. Paul Brion does a great job and I looked forward to his reading. However, I try to avoid Kelly Morgan's readings. I'm sure other people like her, it is just something about her voice I don't care for. Back to the book, it was great seeing how TerraMates started out. Although this is a stand alone book, the ending made sense. It brought back memories of the first couple of books I read in the TerraMate series. The story between Khellen and Sophie is very exciting. There is suspense, thrill and romance all wrapped up in a neat package that is this audiobook. I love seeing a strong woman, and Sophie finally came through in the end. I wasn't sure of the mama and Khellen relationship, until he finally stood up to her and she came around. He came through for me in the end too. Always look forward to Lisa's great stories.
I'm not sure what happened with the last story, but this one is much better. For a short story/novella, this story had everything it needed. The characters had plenty of time to develop their relationship. They had backstories, they faced trials and difficulties, and they learned along the way. There were a few times throughout when I wanted to slap one or both of them, but that's a good things because it means that I was actually into the story. I'm glad things worked out for them in the end, but I'm not sure that everything that happened was my cup of tea. The scene when Sophie walked into the cell to see Kellan with the woman wasn't one of my favorite moments. Though, the author explained that it wasn't exactly what you first suspect when it happens, it was still a scene I could have done without. I also really enjoyed where Sophie ended up at the end in regards to her job. Seeing where Terra Mates got its start was very interesting. I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing what comes next.
I received this book in exchange for a fair review.
The earth is overpopulated and there is an organization that is there to help it out, called Single for Life. And Sophie has worked very hard for her promotion, even to the point of taking the oath to remain single for life and never to have children.
Well, before she can take that job, she is told she must take a vacation, as they don't want their people too stressed out by the work.
So why not go and see her best hologram penpal on another planet, what could go wrong?
Well, unless your penpal is about to turn twenty-five and must be married by said birthday or disappear forever cause he didn't. Just because that planet has a silly rule that you must get married and have kids, cause the population is dropping there.
It is an interesting mix of what you want to do with your life, what you should do, and the right thing to do. All in all a very good book, I really enjoyed it.
Good read, good characterization, enjoyed the plot. It was a bit too, I'm not even sure how to finish the sentence. It was both too much yet still too little. It centers around H/h, but the secondary characters don't seem to mean much. There are heated scenes, but they don't get the in depth attention they deserve, and I'm not talking about the sexual portions. It's not well explained. For example, I'm not really sure why Morda was so jealous over Khellan being with someone else when she wasn't emotionally invested in the first place, or why it was so important they cover up the certificates on their arms if Sophie wasn't going back to Earth for a year, and in order for him to get away with sexual relations, he has to be married.
It was a good story, but the details weren't as well thought out.
Sophie & Khellen have been best friends since they were teenagers and met in a virtual dance.
Sophie has recently been promoted at work, taken the pledge to be single & childless to help stop Earth's over population problem and been forced to take a vacation. Of course she wants to finally meet her best friend face-to-face!
Khellen is almost 25, the age that law requires him to be married by. It is coming down to the wire and he just cannot find the right woman to marry. Knowing that he is running out of time he agrees to marry a woman his mother found for him. Then his best friend arrives to surprise him.
What happens next is a whirlwind of emotions, change, challenges, and an unforeseen & unwanted adventure of a life time.
Origins was my favorite Lisa Lace story to date!!!
This is a book that makes you laugh and not want to put down, I loved it.Sophie McCallistair belongs to the group Single for Life and has just become their Leader, but the company demands a cooling off period after someone becomes a Leader so she goes on vacation to Biyaha . Sophie has gone there to help Khellen Lynch who she has never meet in person find a wife so he will not disappear on his twenty-fifth birthday which is coming up soon. What she does not know is that he has just become engaged. What happens when they meet and realize they are meant to be together ? I was gifted a copy for an honest review.
