My name is Jenna Solitaire―and I am the Keeper of the Boards. I have the Board of Air. And every day, I hear the voice of the Board of Water calling to me. Somehow, I must find it and master its powers--before someone else does... Having mastered the power of the Board of Air, Jenna travels to Jerusalem to find the Board of Water. She is accompanied by Simon Monk, who seeks the Boards on behalf of the Vatican. Jenna doesn't trust Simon, but he's her only source of information about the Boards. In Jerusalem, Jenna meets Saduj, a local guide who claims to be able to help them find the Board they seek. Simon is suspicious, but Jenna finds herself strangely attracted to Saduj. Jenna must find the Board before it awakens and causes unimaginable destruction. But will she lose her heart―and possibly her life―in the process?
Jenna Solitaire was raised in Ohio, and now lives the life of a vagabond, searching the world for the next Board. When she was nineteen, she learned that she was the Keeper of the Boards, and her life has been filled with magic and mayhem ever since. With Simon Monk, she continues to travel the world and learn about the Boards of Babylon. She believes that sharing her story with others is important and plans on continuing to do so for as long as she can....
This was one of the first book series I ever read. And tbh, since then I have read it once or twice more. It was so long ago that I barely remember how it was written, I just know that I enjoyed it. It made me cry and laugh and it did captivate me. Just... ya know, in 2006, when I was... 13. :/
Jenna is a daughter of destiny, the last in a family line that had a magical tool, a board that was infused with power and when it was realized this power could not fall into the wrong hands the board was deconstructed in pieces and hidden. Now the board is calling itself to be put together, and Jenna is answering that call. In the previous book, Jenna had acquired a board of wind and now she is searching for its brother, the board of water. Her quest takes her on a journey through the desert and with a little help from her friends she tracks down the location of the last board.
I did not read the first book before starting this, the author did do a good job filling in the past story in bits and pieces so if you did read the first you weren't obnoxiously bogged down with the first books actions and if you didn't you weren't completely lost in the story. I think the book had a good pace and action scenes. The way that the information just comes and everyone agrees, that got a little like "really well that was an easy way out" which did move the story along and I could understand why the author did it. Overall this was a good story, great for a weekend read, when you don't want to overthink but be entertained.
Quite enjoying this series. Surprisingly more than I expected. Fro a teen novel it is well written and quite the page turner. Looking forward to reading more.
