The Snowmobile Skidded Dangerously around A Curve, And Lassie Leaped From The Trailor. For An Instant, She Teetered At The Edge Of The Cliff, Held By Soft Snow. Then The Snow Gave Way, And She Tumbled Over.
Steve Frazee was born in Salida, Colorado. He began making major contributions to Western pulp magazines with stories set in the American West as well as a number of North-Western tales published in Adventure. Not surprisingly, many of Frazee's novels have become major motion pictures.
I really enjoyed this book! I won't tell you why, but my claustrophobia didn't make it an easy read. I learned a lot more about snowmobiles than I expected though, and actually found the plot engaging and realistic despite being targeted towards children because it didn't dumb down anything, it felt a bit like my grandparents telling me a story. I'd definitely recommend this!
That being said, our main character Scott let's Lassie go off with just about anyone who offers her a ride despite knowing the 14ft snow is too much for her to handle in the mountains, and that she scares easily when snowmobiles hit ice; overall he wasn't a perfect dog parent.
The Steve Frazee Lassie books are my favorite. First of all the Forest Service storylines really ring true. Secondly, Steve understands dogs, and writes them well.
In this adventure Lassie is taken on a snowmobile adventure, and gets caught in an avalanche. Thrilling and very real, I loved this book as much now as I did when I got this for Christmas when I was about eight years old. Nothing but fond memories here!
