This dark romance series follows the story of innocent Imogen, who is captured and taken prisoner by the enemy on her wedding night as their war spoils.
Imogen is chosen by a high-ranking official, Erik, to serve him in every way. Controlling and compassionate at once, Erik warns her that in order to remain as safe as possible, he must learn her, her body, and instruct her on how to obey him, for her own good.
But Imogen struggles to understand her new and confusing feelings, and Erik's enigmatic warnings of her fate leave her afraid and vulnerable. With a knock on the door after the loss of her innocence, Imogen ponders just what her ominous future holds...
“Captured” is the first installment in the Imogen series.
R.B. O’Brien has always been drawn to the more taboo side of storytelling, even as a young adult, from hiding books from strict Catholic parents as a teen to getting lost in the erotic sections of bookstores for hours.
She is best known for her three published erotic romances, Thorne, Edge of Torment and Imogen. But she is now forging a name for herself in the New Adult Romance category as well as poetry, her true passion, Ruin My Lipstick her first of many to come.
Much of O'Brien's work explores the darker, sensual nature of relationships, those riddled with the reality of insecurities and human folly, often exposing the vulnerability, emotional turmoil, and occasional pain that can come from losing oneself in the heat of passion and the obstacles of love.
O'Brien holds a degree in English literature and teaches for a living in the Northeast, USA. She is the founding member of The Nu Romantics, a poet, a professor, a writer, a dancer, and a hopeful romantic known for her poetry prompts on social media. O’Brien also has a profound affection for Shakespeare and beyond that, writes. Every chance she gets.
FanFreekenTastic! Need more!..... A definite attention grabber that held me captive with a needy fascination and a desperate desire for more as the well written storyline takes hold of your senses invading your mind making it impossible to put down. Dominating twists that give you all the feels keeping you enthralled and bound with excitement and intrigue with Oh so darn pleasing chemistry that warms you from the inside out leaving me reeling will a desperate need for more.
I was hesitant to read this at first. I have spent half my life, fighting against and protecting people from this very idea. The realism is what drew me in. Everyone, seems to write about the fear, the pain, the disgust, but this is the first time I have ever seen an author dare to write about, the confusion, the guilt, and the dependence on a captor. It was was refreshing and handled in the best way possible. I was hesitant and Leary, not sure I wanted to read it because of my own personal beliefs. I thought I would just take a peek and satisfy my curiosity. I couldn't stop, couldn't put it down. R.B. O'Brien is one of the best writers I have had the pleasure of reading. She knows how to draw you into the story, how to make you feel the emotions, and knows how to keep you there. She handles a taboo subject, with a precision of a surgeon and the control of a lion tamer. And never once does she make you feel uncomfortable.
This new series by R.B. O'Brien, will be released in short installments. The first installment, sets the scene to what promises to be a hot dark read!!
Imogen, is an inocent and a spoil of war. She is captured on her wedding night and is chosen by an officer of the enemy. Imogen, is set to be Erik's slave, she must comply completely, with all things asked of her.
Erik, is very controlling and demanding, but also shows a compassionate side. He makes sure to explain the consequences to Imogen. Erik, then sets out to learn her body and reactions. As an inocent, Imogen, is confused by the feelings and emotions which she endured over a short space of time.
R.B. O'Brien pulls you into the story from the first paragraph, in her unique writing style. I am looking forward to reading the next part of Imogen's journey as a slave and what Erik has planned for her.
Intense and emotional, the first Imogen story introduces the reader to the harsh reality which is now her life. I enjoy reading about non-consensual romances, and the anti-hero here does not disappoint. Erik perfectly portrays the contradiction between the brute and the tender lover, and I cannot wait to read more of his and Imogen's story. My only 'complaint' about this book is that there is simply not enough of it!
But way too short. I understand it is serielized, but even so...short! Well written with a few typos. I am enjoying this dubious consent storyline(main Alpha is kind..so far) and will definitely continue even though I would not usually choose something this brief. Glad it is KU!
Great start to an interesting story. R.b. captures her protagonist's emotions wonderfully and creates an intriguing world. I look forward to the rest of the series!
This is set in an unnamed dystopian future. One side has lost and the women are all being claimed as slaves. Imogen is chosen and begins a new life as a slave, (including a sex slave.) I have a feeling the relationship will change as the series moves along.
Imogen is a virgin taken from her husband on her wedding night. This first volume is all about her deflowering. That's the basis of this story. That being said. it's kept pretty simple but is still pretty hot. Imogen's natural submissiveness is just beginning to be explored, and she already finds herself enjoying it.
This is really more "unwilling but going along" more than pure non-con, which is what I perfer in erotica. I already know R. B. is a smoking hot author and I expect things to just heat up from here. I can't wait to see what happens to Imogen next.
Wow Author R.B. O'Brien has created a set of characters that will make you feel what they feel and will leave you wanting more. The title character Imogen is a spoil of war as her people are captured and the women are taken to a place to be violated in every way possible. I highly recommend this book and the whole rest of the series of which I'm looking forward to reading.
Innocent Imogen meets controlling Erik - her education into all things "obedient" will be a huge one. Will she or won't she... An intriguing story - but too short for me. I like to be able get into the nitty gritty and I got to the end of this story far too quickly. This is the first R. B. O'Brien book I've read and as an author has gone on my favorite author's list
Grabbed this as a freebie from the author. What a great short story read. It’s short enough to read on your lunch break, long enough that your not left wanting more, Spivey enough you need to make sure your boss dosnt read over your shoulder and captivating enough to make you forget your at work. Only issue is, it’s so good you end up buying the next book lol
I am hooked. This is the first in the series and a quick read. Imogen has been captured and given to Erik to serve him in every way. Fast-paced, intense and off the charts hot. I loved the story and the characters are amazing. I look forward to more in the series.
This story captivated me from the start to the end. It took me out of my comfort zone. It kept me on the edge of my seat. This authors writing was spectacular. This story isn’t for the faint hearted. Very steamy and it will keep you turning the pages.
This book left me speechless. Not for the faint of heart. Twisted dark mind blowing good book that I totally recommend. Kept me on the edge of my seat while reading wondering what would happen next.
Imogen: Captured is a short but delectable dub-con tale, brief but only the first installation of a longer series. R.B. O’Brien has created an enticing situation of the kind that always piques my interest—a young woman caught up in a mysterious war, captured by the enemy and stripped naked along with other women, treated as new property: the spoils of war for a group of foreign soldiers (or is it a civil war? They speak the same language).
She is separated by one of the officers and taken to his quarters; she has little choice but to comply. This might dissuade some readers, but the man who has chosen her seems to be interested in Imogen in ways that are far preferable to the treatment others may be getting. And—importantly—not only that, but despite herself, she cannot help but find his rather forward and demanding activities on her…quite pleasurable. It sets up a wonderful tension.
I personally find this kind of story irresistible, and the sex scenes as the two characters discover and learn each other, and Imogen tries to understand her new circumstances, are extremely hot. I have already purchased the complete set of the series so far.
The only reason I have not given it the full five stars—did I say I’ve purchased the rest of the series?—is that I have to admit I’m wanting *more.* More sex, yes, I’m sure there will be that in future episodes! But more of the world the characters inhabit. Not the geo-political details of this war, but I do wonder where and when this conflict takes place. Setting. Is their city reduced to rubble? I do want more details. What motivates him to conquer her people? And yes, I’ll admit it—what horrors are those other women enduring, that we only get a glimpse of, that he has “rescued” her from? It all sounds so tantalizing, in a dark way. (Because this is, after all, fantasy; fiction.) I am anxious to see where this very hot story goes!
As usual Ms O' Brien leaves us panting waiting for more.... I suspect this short story would tempt anyone by its beautiful imagery and depth of character presented in a few short pages, as is the mark of her remarkable style.
