Everyone deserves a second chance.Henri Novak is at rock bottom. He thinks it’ll be hard to move past the rage and hurt he’s trapped in, until he meets Clarke Kensington and thinks she might be a good distraction from his situation.Clarke Kensington is also no stranger to trouble—as a private investigator, she’s seen the worst things married couples can do to each other. Following her own divorce, she’s trying to give herself a fresh start in a new city when she meets Henri and feels an undeniable attraction to him. What starts as a way for two people to distract themselves becomes an unlikely alliance, as Henri and Clarke bond over their broken marriages. But even as they grow closer, will they find a way to trust each other . . . and maybe get a do-over for love?
I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. Attended Clark College as an undergrad, and completed my Masters at the University of Texas in Austin. Both of my degrees are in Economics. After working in the Banking industry, I am now doing what I love - telling stories.
I enjoy reading, gardening, movies and hanging out with my spouse of twenty-seven years and our two young adults. I currently live in Austin, Texas.
Good book. Good mystery. The jumping off point was engaging and I wasn't unsympathetic to this particular secondary character. Silence tends to escalate matters to a point of no return that cannot be favorable in the long run. Bits and pieces of the secondary characters and their story are revealed, but I wanted to know more.
It was nice to catch up with Stephen and Reye from Reye's Gold. However, Stephen's level of involvement in his efforts to make a match between his friend Henri, and his business acquaintance, Clarke was unrealistic. I've read and enjoyed several of this author's books but there is an underlying theme between Do Overs and Reye's Gold. Both women are besotted by the beauty of their respective hero and it's harped upon much too often for my tastes. Both women enter into a strings only relationship that changes into them secretly wanting more over time. Why the masculine names for feminine heroines?
There was a lot going on in this story and I still had unanswered questions. What was up between the hostile interaction between Kevin Haung and Summer Novak? It felt like it was going somewhere and then it didn't. What happened with their first house flip? Did Stephen and Reye become parents? Did they have a boy or a girl? What did Henri give his ex-wife in their divorce?
I have read the two prior stories and while I greatly enjoyed them Do Overs is my favorite. We get to catch up with people from the other two books….mostly Stephen and Reye…a little insight on Joe. This story had two wonderful characters…passion and a bit of mystery but what made it so compelling was the relationship Henri and Clark forged….it was truly a two sided love story….in the other books the guys never seemed as invested as their partners. I am new to this author but I will try to find other stories. Officer Jim was intriguing 🤔 hope he has a story somewhere!
Henri is in town to help his sister with her business while waiting for his divorce to become final. Clarke is divorced and works as a private investigator and a partner with Henri's sister Samantha, in their recent go at house flipping while background checking one of Samantha's employee's. Meanwhile, Clarke is asked to find her missing cousin and her child. Henri and Clarke meet, are attracted to each other and decide to become friends with benefits. Clarke and Henri are the only ones who think they are just two friends just hanging out.
Wow! This was a long very detailed story. I loved it. I really like how Ms. Robinson introduces characters in her books that potentially could have there own stories told. I love the chemistry between the two main characters. And I also loved that him being white and her being black wasn't an issue. There lives mirrored each other's in so many ways. It just goes to show you no matter what race you are...we all still experience the same joys...hurts...etc.
I loved Henri and Clarke! This story was so real. The storyline and the characters were so realistic. I will definitely be recommending this book to all my fellow book club members. This is a must read.
Characters developed well . Excellent imagery. Thoroughly enjoyed. Loved the crossover characters. Nice mystery twist. Highly recommend. Can't wait to read more
What a beautiful mature love story of do over....two adults...one recently divorced and the other just started divorce papers...the first meeting was very unpleasant..everyone saw them as a possible pair...but the proceeded at their own pace..Clarke made it clear to Henri that if they decided to make this happen....(just sex)....it was strictly going to be just vanilla sex....no anal,no butt plugs,no whips and chains....best line in the story...anyway you will enjoy these two sexing their way into each other's heart...all the while declaring no no no..when their hearts are saying yes yes yes...and the other important part of the story is the unexpected tragedies happening at the same time....follow Henri and Clarke's story as they discover true love in a dramatic do over...ps Stephen and Reye is also in this story..enjoy!
I totally wasn't expecting this book. I didn't catch on that this was a follow-up to Reye's Gold, until Stephen entered the story. (Which is one of my favorite books!) Always loved Henri's character and I'm happy she gave him his own story. He and Clarke were a beautiful couple. I loved that they weren't a perfect couple. Both had their issues to work through.
As I said in a previous review, Ruthie Robinson is one of the few author's that you can just buy the book without reading the reviews, downloading the sample, or reading the description of her books. You're guaranteed an awesome book. Most authors struggle with follow-up books, where the 2nd book isn't as good as the first. That's never the case with Ms Robinson.
Would love to read a book where the female character is a plus size woman or at least average size from Ms Robinson. :)
I loved Reyes Gold..just Loved it. I was looking forward to another book from Mrs Robinson.i was not disappointed by this one.the main characters were mature, not childish,no begging or over dramatic moments created to build tension, just two grow ups making one another feel better, something I can relate to.i loved hearing about Stephen and raye as well. The story of her cousin was sad but added another interesting layer and was not overwrought albeit sad. Oh and about her speech patterns in the book,I LOVED it. I tend talk in strange patterns like that sometimes and I get the strangest looks.its good to know I'm not alone!!!!im not the only black girl from Texas that sounds like she grew up in a mythical village in England called Devonshire!
I loved the storyline, the characters and the fact that the characters were relatable. However, I hated the Yoda speak. It took me out of the story every time. I did love the story but would like to implore Ms. Robinson not "in future write like".
Sorry for the mini rant. If not for the disruption I would have had nothing but wonderful things to say. It is worth the read.
My first read by this author but won't be my last, that's for sure!
This book is for the grown folks.. mature audience. Clarke and Henri were great together. Two people who were emotionally damaged by their spouses but still decided life was worth living....on their terms.
This book had suspense, hot sex and great dialogue! I can't wait to read about Summer (hint, hint).
I really enjoyed this book. I have read all of Ruthie's books and just love her. I liked that this one had a little more tragedy than her other books. I also like that she tied in some of her other characters from another of her books. The characters were believable and likeable. Definitely a fun read.
Loved this book! This was my first Ruthie Robinson book but it will not be my last. The characters were well developed and believable. Clarke is an awesome character and perfectly matched with Henri. The interactions between them had me flipping page after page and not putting it down until it was the end.
First off, kudos to Ms. Robinson for another great story!! I love the chemistry between Henri and Clark. Definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read!
I'm a fan so yeah I totally enjoyed this story which was made special because it gave an update on my favorite couple written by this author thanks for another great read!
I loved the soft steady build of of this book and the characters love. Yes the sex happened immediately but everything else was a build up and the story was pretty good!! It was a pretty good book! I would read it again
I hadn't read a book by Mrs Robinson in a while; but I'm glad I picked this one. This book was a book of triumph of two people who had been put through it and made it to the other side okay. Just an amazing story altogether.
It was a pleasure reading your book, Do Overs. I loved the way you write and you are an inspiration to couples that are of different races. Keep up the good work and make many more books.
Once again - wonderful characters with a keen sense of humor and still some awesome relationship scenes. Loved the tie in with characters from Reyes' Gold. Really like the mystery angle in this!
Great read. A well put together book. Great plot, perfect pace; with a lovable hero and heroine. A hot, steamy mystery romance with a bit of suspense. I really enjoyed it.
