the society insisted that in times of trouble the King himself should die for the sake of his people.
The King doesn’t fancy them. [snorts]
The fourth is another locked room mystery [ what a twist!] Lord Arlen is the head of a publishing house and is greatly feared. Each afternoon he has a nap, and is not be disturbed, so when they hear odd noises, nobody dares to disturb him. By the time someone forces his door he is hanging from a beam too high for him to have reached. Sean’s magic proves that there was no-one else in the room when he died, or for the hour previous. No evil influences are present or signs of black magic. But he also points out that a suicide always leaves a ‘psychic impression; a sense of gloom’ and that is not here.
One of the suspects is an author who objected to the edits. [cackles]

I found the world building super intriguing. And how the accoutrements of the catholic church are used in ‘good’ magic; crosses, incense, ankhs, and thuribles. Priests have various levels of power and ability; people can buy healing like blessings. And some of them can discern others faith / magic abilities at a glance. The English realm still includes Aquitaine.
