I’ve been working with the chakras for decades, so I am always interested when I see a book about them at a book review site. While this book has some good points, on the whole, I found this book to have too many issues. The good point: discussion of 5 extra-corporeal chakras above the head. The book didn’t focus enough on the chakras. Auras are given an entire chapter… and before the author even discusses chakras at any length, she or he defines yoga… which doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the chakras (unless the practitioner wants to). Some chakra information is repetitive and spread out through different chapters. While the author does offer some novel ideas for how to open and strengthen different chakras—like walking in nature for the first chakra—the “meditation” ideas are a bit bland. Essentially, for each chakra meditation, you visualize the chakra’s color at its level. Meh. I would have loved to see guided meditations for each chakra. The writing style is a bit awkward, as if a nonnative English speaker wrote it… or one who is not comfortable writing their native English. It also doesn’t have the personal touch I like to see in contemporary nonfiction. We don’t get a sense of the author in the book; it reads like someone’s research paper on the chakras. What is his or her relationship with the chakras? How does he or she work with them? Because of all these issues, I do not feel like I can recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
