“It's not about who loves her. It's about how you love her. You have to learn the difference between what she says, and what she means. Don't just make her laugh. Try and understand why she smiles. Plenty have told her she's beautiful, but can you make her feel that way too? There's a difference, see. Compliments might cage her, while empowerment sets her free. My God, what matters to her is not just who flatters her. There's a language to her love you'll need to learn. Speak it true, and I promise you, the best of her, is what you'll earn.” ― J. Raymond's magical words ❣
I absolutely loved this book. It took a lot longer to get through than other books i've read of this nature due to its thought provoking pieces which are so incredibly real and honest. I'll definitely reread it (one of the few books i would) to try take some more out of it, i'm also sure one would do so depending on which stage in their life they are at when reading. There are a few spelling errors which (just a handful) which i peg on the publisher not the author, which does throw you off a bit when you come across them, but that's about it. Spades comes highly recommended. My favourite piece in the book was Let Her Run #27.
I wrote a blog post singing his praises after purchasing his book Spades. He wrote me on IG and asked to do a custom piece for me at a discount. I accepted his offer and paid him full price. (I support creatives whole heartedly) It’s been a month and a half with no work produced. No reply when I asked him to educate me on his process or when I asked for a refund. And he reached out to me! I will say his work is hauntingly beautiful; however know that by purchasing his work you’re supporting a swindler.
I’ve loved J. Raymond since the very first poem I stumbled upon in instagram. His words are honest, gritty, hopeful, pessimistic and beautiful. His words always resonate with me even if it’s something I haven’t experienced because he writes with such emotion! My husband has slowly started gifting me all his books and I’ll always be excited to add a new one to my collection ♥️
Turning to short poetry books in a desperate attempt to complete my reading goal—no rating because I don’t really know what counts as good poetry. Definitely didn’t think it was a bad poetry book, just not my usual genre.
I’m obsessed. I kept following J. Raymond on facebook. This is the third collection I’ve read of his and I can’t wait to read the others. Raw. Pure. Tested. True. If I eat marked my favorites the entire book would have them.
Beautifully written and emotionally driven, this book is a masterpiece. Jack Sawyer (the author) is a master of his craft and a poetry genius. His words are raw, honest, and relatable on so many levels. Follow him on Instagram if you don't already, you will not be disappointed.
