Those Texas Nights

Rate this book
The Granger siblings thought they'd left their ranching days behind, until fate sends them home to Wrangler's Creek, Texas—and into the passionate arms of those they'd least expect…

It's some run of bad luck when Sophie Granger loses her business and gets left at the altar all in one day. Desperate to not appear jilted, Sophie begs Clay McKinnon, Wrangler's Creek's smoking-hot police chief, to pretend they're having an affair. But Clay refuses, leaving Sophie to retreat to the family ranch to lick her wounds.

Hoping to leave his disreputable past behind, Clay moved to Wrangler's Creek for a fresh start. But that looks unlikely when Sophie's ex-fiancé shows up married to Clay's impulsive kid sister. Overcome, Sophie resuggests the affair—but this time for real. Clay is hesitant. City-girl Sophie isn't usually his type. But he can't deny the desire she elicits—or his yearning to have her plant her cowboy roots for good.

Those Texas Nights is book one of the Wrangler’s Creek series by Delores Fossen and narrated by Eric G. Dove.

This was my first taste of Delores Fossen and I enjoyed it enough to continue on in the Wrangler’s Creek series.

We get a small town romance filled with quirky characters, family drama, a bit of suspense, and romance.

The people in this small town are all a bit crazy and so is Sophie’s family. Clay our hero is a sexy hot cowboy/police chief that can sweep any women of her feet. Sophie our heroine is a city girl down on her luck. She captures the eye of Clay and in doing so want to stay in the small Texas town. Their chemistry is hot and steamy. As for the romance it was ok. I’m not sure if I’m convinced, but I did enjoy to a point.

The secondary characters all add their own bits of flare and frustration to the story and Sophie’s family sure does have their issues. We also get a bit of suspense involving missing money and a missing CFO plus a family business near ruins because of it.

Narrator: Eric G. Dove - I wasn’t sure if I’d like a male narrator; since most of the audios I listen to are narrated by females. He was interesting and did a good job. The only thing I had a bit of trouble with is the women voices. They took some getting used too.

Overall, Those Texas Nights was a nice contemporary romance and start to the Wrangler’s Creek series. I seam to enjoy and like my contemporaries in audio formate then reading.

Favorite Quotes:

… as soon as he had a name, Clay would run a background check on him. He loved his sister – most of the time anyway – but April was a turd magnet when it came to men.

Before the woman even stepped into his office, he caught a whiff of her. Garlic, for sure. Limburger cheese, maybe. And Listerine… Clay wasn’t sure exactly how old Vita was, but she had to be a lot younger than she looked because she had a thirty-year-old daughter, Mila. Yet she looked to be a hundred and sixty. Or maybe that wasn’t actually wrinkles upon wrinkles but instead she was smearing her face with Limburger cheese.

You couldn’t always tell if her mother was clued into reality or not. She looked prim and proper as if she should be on one of those TV shows from the sixties, the ones where the moms wore high heels to do housework. Not a hair out of place. Lipstick was a necessity, and she wore hard padded bras that could bruise you when she gave you a hug.

Billy Lee’s got that closet phobia thing. Has had it since he was a kid… He got it ‘cause all them bigger boys in junior high used to cram him in his locker and fart on him through the vent holes.

In this moment being responsible seemed highly overrated. That likely explained why there were unplanned pregnancies, therapy, and regrets.

Mila caught onto the doorframe so she could put on a pair of red high heels normally reserved for movie musicals and cheap hookers.

My Review:

I adored this humorous and delightful small town romance by Delores Fossen. It was wryly amusing with a twist of intrigue and heap of family drama. Sophie’s wedding day ushered in disaster of epic proportions for the entire Granger family as her fiancé fled in one direction and the considerable family fortune in another. I was instantly hooked on page one when this busy and eventful story took off and kept me engaged, entertained, and smirking throughout. Those Texas Nights was a comfortable read full of quirky characters, a well-paced storyline, a few delicious steamy bits, and considerable levity hiding within the narrative.

Good small town romance filled with quirky characters, family drama, and a bit of suspense. It starts out with Sophie having a really bad day. Her fiancé ends their engagement on the day of the wedding, telling her that he doesn't love her anymore, that he's in love with someone else. Desperate to avoid dealing with her family, she sneaks out the church window and walks to the police station. There she tries to talk police chief Clay into pretending they are having an affair so that she can save face. He turns her down, but while at the office Sophie gets word that the family business is in trouble. Their chief financial officer is accused of embezzling and using the company for money laundering and has disappeared. The FBI is investigating, and has frozen all company and personal assets until they know whether the Granger siblings are in on it. This sends Sophie back to the family ranch to try to pick up the pieces.

Clay turned Sophie down for his own reasons. He came to Wrangler's Creek for a fresh start and to watch over his younger sister. Life is pretty quiet for him, except for battling the feral chickens that keep attacking him. And trying to deal with the incompetent workmen who are doing renovations on his house. And trying to escape the reminders of what drove him to Wrangler's Creek in the first place. The last thing he needs is to get involved with Sophie, even though the sparks between them are pretty hot.

Then life takes a turn for the really crazy. It turns out that the woman that Sophie's fiancé Brantley fell for is none other than Clay's little sister April. Not only are they in love, they've already married and are expecting a baby. Clay and Sophie are frequently thrown together and the sparks between them just grow hotter. They know that getting involved with each other is a bad idea. Sophie has her plans, which don't include staying in Wrangler's Creek. Clay is haunted by something from his past that won't let him be happy in a relationship. Then there's the fact that so many people are against them as a couple. Clay's sister April is the most vociferous, and still insecure about her marriage, also thinks Sophie is trying to get Brantley back. Sophie's brothers and best friend warn her against a rebound relationship. But the attraction is too strong, and Clay and Sophie decide that pursuing the attraction secretly will give them the relief that they need without having to deal with others.

Of course, in a small town, nothing remains secret for long. Also typical of small towns, rumors abound, with very little of them having any basis in truth. It was fun to see Clay and Sophie try to counter the rumors without giving away what was really going on. At the same time, their intention of a quick and secret fling is being overcome by the feelings that are growing between them, though they try hard to resist them. Clay fights because of the guilt that haunts him and doesn't want Sophie caught up in the consequences of that guilt. But when she is, Clay finally finds the motivation to stand up to his tormentor. He wants to protect her from the ugliness, and ends up being surprised to discover the depth of her trust in him. I loved her reaction when she had the whole truth. Sophie has her own issues, dealing with the fallout of her wedding disaster. Trusting her heart to another man comes hard, and having that man be so closely connected to her ex makes it even harder. I loved seeing her get over Brantley's betrayal and slowly open her heart again. It was occasionally frustrating to see them fight it so hard when it was obvious that they belonged together. I enjoyed the ending and seeing the two of them admit their feelings while at the same time realizing that their pasts will always have an influence on their future.

The secondary characters all add their own bits of fun and frustration to the story. At the top are April and Brantley, whose relationship was fast and furious and now they are dealing with the realities. April is flighty and insecure, which leads to some confrontations with Sophie, who she thinks wants Brantley back. Brantley seems pretty immature for a respected lawyer, as his actions regarding Sophie and their wedding show. His quick turnaround to marry April doesn't help the impression. There are times when he seems to be doing quite well as a husband and stepfather, but others where that immaturity rears its ugly head. Also present are Sophie's brothers, Garrett and Roman. Garrett has his problems with the business, what he really wants to be doing, and a marriage that is crumbling. He's protective of Sophie, but caught between a rock and a hard place regarding the future of the business. Roman has removed himself entirely from the family business, owns the ranch but doesn't want it and can't get rid of it. He has a very strained relationship with their mother and a son that he adores but is having problems with. There's also Sophie's best friend Mila, who has a unique way of dating, causing some moments of hilarity for the reader and dismay for Sophie and Clay. Mila's mother Vita is the local gypsy/witch and her solution for Clay's chicken problem is fun. She also provides a little hilarity in her involvement in their romance. There's a gossipy deputy, a pig farmer named Skunk, and handymen that aren't so handy.

Also included is a bit of suspense involving a missing CFO and money from the family business. They can't deny that the money is gone, and that Billy Lee is apparently the guilty party. But Sophie and Garret have a hard time believing in his guilt. The FBI has gotten involved and the hunt is on for the missing man. The only one who might have an idea where he is is best friend Arlo, the best friend and not-so-bright gas station owner. There's a hilarious scene where Sophie finds Billy Lee in an unexpected place, but loses him again, though not before getting Billy's side of the story. It does eventually get resolved, without too much angst.

Those Texas Nights is a new series involving the Granger siblings. Sophie Granger is left at the altar and loses her business all in the same day. Clay is the interim Chief of Police and just wants to make his job permanent and keep an eye on his sister. When she shows up married, his world gets more complicated.

This was a fairly quick read. For the most part, I did enjoy the story. It is filled with some great and quirky characters. I definitely laughed out loud on more than one occasion. I really liked the little town that the author has built into the series. It should make for a lot more entertainment in the coming books.

What I wasn't so sold on was the romance between Clay and Sophie. I felt like a lot of time passed in the book, but I didn't see enough of them together to convince me that they fell in love. There were too many side stories that took away from the main couple. Despite that, this was a fun read and one I would recommend.

If you want a great romance with a series of hilarious events leading the couple to their happily ever after, then look no further than Delores Fossen. She delivers. Every. Single. Time. If the rest of Fossen’s new Wrangler Creek series is anything like Those Texas Nights, we’re in for something amazing.

Sophie Granger is having the day from hell. She’s been dumped by her fiancé just minutes before the wedding. To top it off, the chief financial officer at her family’s company, Granger Western, has apparently disappeared with the company money and there are rumors of money laundering. So much for her life plan. She wasn’t married, had no children, and wasn’t CEO of the company. And with the way gossip spread in Wrangler Creek, she was bound to be the starring subject of rumors and pity. So to avoid the pity, she finds herself in her muddy wedding gown standing in the office of the cute cowboy cop, Clay McKinnon, and asking him to pretend “date” her. He was the only eligible straight man in town old enough to ask.
Clay McKinnon, interim police chief of Wrangler Creek, is having a hell of a day too. He’s relatively new to Wrangler Creek, having moved there a few months prior to watch over his irresponsible younger sister and his twin 2 year old nephews. Not only does his sister drive him crazy, but he’s living in a house under renovation where his toilet is currently in his living room and the refrigerator is in his bathroom. To add to his misery, he’s nursing injuries from the feral chickens that attack him every time he sets foot in his yard. And to top the day off, he’s dealing with his recurring reminder of a past he can’t seem to put behind him. So when Sophie Granger shows up with her pretend dating idea, he turns her down. His life was already crazy. Getting mixed up with Sophie would just add new depth to the craziness.
Sophie ends up returning to the family ranch until the embezzlement fiasco can be resolved. Battling the town’s rumors and pity and the constant push by family and friends to explore dating sites, she’s trying to get on with her life. Unfortunately that looks unlikely when she runs into her ex fiancé, now married to Chief Clay McKinnon’s kid sister. A sister who feels Sophie is still a threat. Overcome, Sophie approaches Clay again suggesting they date, but this time for real. Clay reminds himself he came to Wrangler Creek in search of peace and quiet. Sophie Granger wasn’t the peace and quiet inducing type. He knew he should be keeping his distance but that was getting difficult. And once they kissed, the attraction they’d been skirting around was set loose. All of a sudden, being responsible seemed highly overrated so Clay and Sophie decide to sneak around, see each other, and figure out if they have a chance to work. If not, no one would be the wiser. Sneaky sex. And sneak they did. Every time they came together, they knew there was no way it could work, but their attraction to each other was fire hot. When they got together it was frantic and out of control. But they soon discovered that “this secret meeting stuff wasn’t for sissies”, and that nothing stays secret in Wrangler Creek for long.

I had read Ms. Fossen’s McCord Brothers series and thought nothing could be more delightful. I was wrong. Those Texas Nights may very well be my favorite now. In true Fossen fashion, this book is rife with adorable, kooky characters. From the pig farmer named Skunk, to the gypsy fortune teller, to the fantasy date obsessed friend, the people of Wrangler Creek will leave you in hysterics. And Fossen’s writing style cannot be beat. She is the master of humor. I can’t read her books without chuckling and guffawing at the situations her characters find themselves in. She has some of the best one liners I’ve ever read! Delores Fossen has a real talent for writing romances that deliver the perfect balance of humor and passion. You will fall in love with Sophie, Clay, their families, and the whole town of Wrangler Creek. I for one can’t wait to see what she has planned next in this series. If you love sweet small town romances served with a large side of humor and drama, then Delores Fossen is your go-to author! THOSE TEXAS NIGHTS has everything you need in an entertaining romance: humor, passion and drama, and is the start to what is sure to be an amazing series.

Sophie Granger may be the princess of Wrangler's Creek but nothing in her life has been royal lately. Ditched by her groom at the altar and discovering that their company is on the brink of ruin is a double whammy of huge proportions. Apparently being seen as a cheater is preferable to being pitied for being jilted, which leads to an outrageous offer from Sophie to the new police chief.

Clay McKinnon moved to Wrangler's Creek for a new start and to keep an eye on his sister and even though he turned down the offer from Sophie, the town isn't done gossiping about them and his reckless younger sister just turned up married to Sophie's ex.

So much for Sophie's life plan and Clay's fresh start. Between them, they have a very full plate to deal with but interfering family and friends and the town grapevine are working overtime to complicate things for them.

I love Delores Fossen's writing and every time I read a book by her, I can't help but wonder how she comes up with her stories and characters because they are everything from quirky to crazy but always entertaining. I laughed so hard I was crying and snorting as I read this book and the dialogue and quips were sometimes snarky but always hilarious.

With a delightful cast of secondary characters, a quick moving story line and great dialogue, THOSE TEXAS NIGHTS is a great way to start the year.

Those Texas Nights is a quirky and fun small town romance story that takes a look at the everyday life of the town folks, with its trials and triumphs, drama and celebration.
I was in awe with the wit and cleverness of some of the twists of the language and the unique sayings the author used in the tale. The humor is subtle most of the time, having me laughing out loud on several occasion and unexpectedly.
The characters are somewhat peculiar and definitely one-of-the-kind, yet they demonstrate the human mind and the inner thoughts we rarely share with others in a true and straightforward way, open to everyone to hear and see and gossip about, most of the time even without shame and humiliation. I couldn't help but admire the characters and cheer for them, relate to them and share their pain, fear, passion, and adoration.
The drama and tragedies of the town are told from several different points of view, mainly focusing on the Granger family and McKinnon siblings. From business investigation to everyday illnesses, from fear of losing to loving with all your heart, and everything in between the characters faces their life and destinies head on with full speed.
Both Sophie and Clay have baggage from the past that isn't easy to leave behind and effect their life and decisions of their future. The hurt is still there and it takes an effort and time to heal and make things work out as they are destined to be. The chemistry between them was evident to all, the connection obvious, but that didn't make forming a relationship easy or effortless for them.
Delightful storytelling of charming characters and their lives in a small town Texas where everyone knows each other, where gossip is the way to deliver the news, and where lives, loves, and families find their safe haven to nourish and bloom. I'm looking forward to more in this alluring and whimsical series!

This is a delightfully quirky, funny romance with a flair for the dramatic. I've read plenty of Ms Fossen's books, enjoying each one, but this one really had a new and different tone to it. I don't think I've ever laughed as much while reading any of her other books...the snark factor in this story is off the charts and completely hilarious. While having one conversation with Sophie, Clay cannot bring himself to look into her eyes because their color brings back bad memories of something that previously had gone very wrong...as well he really didn't want to engage her in conversation so he would only grunt, hoping to dissuade her from continuing:

"Clay grunted again. If he kept this up, she’d think he had indigestion. Maybe social anxiety, too, what with him not actually looking her directly in the eyes."

These little quips throughout the story really hit the funny boned, when taken in context. The overall story was engaging, with zany characters and situations that at times you have to take with a grain of salt, but for the most part, an entertaining read.

Originally published at Reading Reality

What happens to the bride after she gets left at the altar is an idea that has been done many times before. My most recent encounters with this trope that I can find were in Big Sky Wedding by Linda Lael Miller and The Best Man by Kristan Higgins. The story of how the jilted bride picks up the pieces of her life and manages to move on is one that is always ripe for drama, growth and redemption.

And sometimes more than a bit of melodrama as well. The situation is rife with possibilities for tragicomedy, as long as one is not the jilted bride oneself. And in fiction, she is always better off without the cowardly or asshat (or both) so and so.

So it proves for Sophie Granger. It would have been better all around if Brantley the ball-less wonder (I don’t like him much) had figured out a whole lot sooner that he was in love with someone other than Sophie, his bride-to-be. Especially since that other someone is already just a little bit pregnant with his baby.

But on the day of Sophie’s busted wedding, she has a whole lot of other crap to deal with. Not only is her wedding a bust, but it looks like the family company is too. For the Granger siblings, Sophie and her brothers Garrett and Roman, it looks like Sophie’s romantic woes are the least of their collective troubles.

Their trusted CFO, who is also their godfather, seems to have embezzled pretty much all of the company’s assets, Even worse, because he was apparently dealing with money launderers, the FBI wants its fingers in this pie as well. They have to investigate all the Grangers to make sure that no one was either involved in or profiting from what look like very illegal gains. Which can’t be found.

The company assets are frozen, including all their cars, all their apartments, and all their bank accounts. All that’s left is the quite substantial family ranch that their grandfather used to launch their cowboy outfitting business. Which means they all have to move in together, and with their mother.

Meanwhile, everyone in town has jumped on the “pity poor Sophie” bandwagon, when all she wants is to get on with her life. As soon as she gets most of it back.

But nothing fuels the town’s gossip mill more than Sophie’s choice of whom to get that life back together with. In a series of comic errors, everyone believes that Sophie has taken up with the new police chief. The good news is that Clay McKinnon is single. The bad news is that Sophie’s ex is now playing happy families with Clay’s sister.

Which doesn’t stop either Clay or Sophie from acting on an attraction that is oh-so-bad, but feels oh-so-good.

Escape Rating B: This is a lot of fun. And there’s a lot of small-town drama and small-town characters mixed into the romance in ways that make the reader smile, chuckle and occasionally laugh out loud. To say that Clay and Sophie have a ton of bad luck in their attempts to work their attraction out of their systems without the entire town commenting every step of the way fail miserably is an understatement.

They can’t catch a break, and they can’t manage to stay away from each other. But neither says they want a relationship. Sophie is dealing with too much crap, and Clay is carrying way too much baggage. Which, in the end, doesn’t matter a bit.

The town has its character, and its characters, both good and bad. The most fun of these is Vita, the local witch and the mother of Sophie’s best friend Mila. Clay’s ranch house is under assault by feral chickens, and a running gag in the story revolves around Vita’s various attempts to end the siege. A second, and even funnier running gag follows Mila’s attempts at a “fantasy date”, which usually end with Sophie and/or Clay witnessing something that they really, really, really wish they could un-see.

One of the less fun characters is unfortunately Sophie’s mother Belle. A little of Belle goes a very long way. She’s mean and bitter, and constantly rags on all her children and everyone in town pretty much all the time. She also doesn’t listen to anyone. Ever. Not seeing someone set her down and give her a piece of their mind left me with a bit of a bitter taste and a lack of resolution. She’s just not a stock character I like to see.

We also don’t get quite as much buildup for the romance as I would have liked. Once they are in, they are both all in, but we don’t really see how they get there. On that other hand, we do see a lot of the relationships that surround them, and with the exception of Sophie’s mother, I want to get to know everyone. There are oodles of fascinating future story possibilities here, just waiting to unfold.

And I’m looking forward to reading them all, starting with No Getting Over a Cowboy early in the spring.

Those Texas Nights is a sweet, sexy, funny first installment in Delores Fossen's new series, Wrangler Creek.

Sophie Granger is in the midst of a string of bad luck when she is forced to move back to the family ranch in Wrangler Creek. Her fiancé, Brantley Barnwell, has just left her at the altar, the family's trusted friend and business CFO has embezzled all their money and her assets have been frozen. The last thing Sophie needs is a sizzling hot attraction to interim Sheriff Clay McKinnon. With Clay's sister April now married to Brantley, a relationship between Sophie and Clay would be tricky, but can they manage a secret no strings fling in a town that is rife with rumor?

Sophie and Clay are a fantastic couple but they both bring plenty of baggage to their clandestine affair. Sophie is still trying to sort out the tangled business affairs but with the CFO in the wind, she is stuck working on the family ranch with her brother Garrett. Clay is struggling to come to terms with the tragic incident that led to him moving to Wrangler Creek. In addition to their own issues, Sophie and Clay have their hands full with chicken attacks, family squabbles, the town's rumor mill and a fantasy date obsessed best friend.

With plenty of witty banter, humorous situations and a cast of interesting but quirky characters, Those Texas Nights is a fast-paced and entertaining novel. Sophie and Clay are appealing characters and their sex scenes are blazing hot. The intriguing glimpses of Sophie's brothers will leave fans eagerly anticipating the next installment in Delores Fossen's Wrangler Creek series. I greatly enjoyed and highly recommend this engaging love story to fans of Western contemporary romances.

If the first book in Delores Fossen’s new Wrangler’s Creek series, Those Texas Nights is anything to go by she sure has a real winner on her hands. Wrangler’s Creek is one of those homey small towns populated by unique and somewhat quirky characters that makes you want to live there. Well maybe not if you don’t like your whole life and every little thing you do gossiped about by your neighbors! But, as in this story, don’t worry there will be another “must gossip about” event taking place to make everyone forget about your doings.
Delores Fossen is a genius when it comes to characterization. Her characters are always so realistic that you feel you should be able to walk right up to them and carry on a conversation. And the dialogue in this story is full of fun conversations. The dialogue and descriptions will make you laugh out loud.
There’s lots going on in this story, businesses being embezzled, unlikely personal relationships being started, a couple of super cute little boys who will totally delight you and some steamy lovin’ to suit your fantasies. So come along and meet the lovely people of Wrangler’s Creek and fall in love with sexy Chief Clay McKinnon and sassy Sophie Granger.

This read like it was written by a 14 yr old who has never been kissed. Phrases such as "creates a special feeling in my special place" were beyond laughable and the female lead was ridiculous. She is a grown adult who has dated a man for many years and was moments away from getting married but has NEVER had a hand job?! Also find it wierd that she keeps referring to it as such. Furthermore, she keeps apologizing for causing problems for April - the homewrecker who keeps flaunting the relationship in her face and has called her a bitch on several occasions. Are we supposed to believe that she is such a kind and wonderful soul that she just always turns the other cheek and wishes people well? Well we are also supposed to believe that her best friend is a 30 year virgin acting out dirty dancing fantasies with randon guys from the internet so i suppose anything is possible in this book.

This novel is different from other books I have read by Delores Fossen. I personally felt that the plot and the characters needed more development. This book didn't have the action and suspense I've become accustomed to in Ms. Fossen's books.

Do I have to tell you I loved the cover of this book or is it just assumed? Because YUM. I will tell you that when I started this book I got a little worried because how Clay and Sophie meet each other is a little... it's not conventional and I thought that we had hit a real low in romance novels. Basically, Sophie gets dumped the day of her wedding and instead of handling it like a grown up and telling her family, she runs out and decides to go up to a stranger (Clay) and asks him to be her "date" and basically go along with the story that she was seeing him all along. So... you'd rather be seen as a cheating whore versus someone who got dumped? Riiiiight. Seems legit.

Sigh.

But once you get past that, it's actually an endearing book. Not only is she dumped at the altar, but their family business is basically stolen by a family friend/their Godfather/trusted CFO for 40 years, so now she's jobless as well and forced to move back home to Wrangler's Creek. To top it off, her ex-fiance is engaged to (dun, dun, dun) Clay's younger sister!

Cue drama!

I can't give you much more information than this because it'll ruin the story, but I'll tell you I'm giving this one 5 stars. Surely, the beginning is eye roll worthy, but the rest of it was funny, it was sweet, and it was a fun read. I got through this in one evening because I wanted to keep going. I am SO looking forward to the rest of the books in this series, I anticipate they will be as engaging as this one. This has all of the charm of small town living, with some big city characters trying to acclimate, and it's just a really great start to the series.

I highly recommend this read if you want something fun and airy, but want to have the best parts of a romance novel as well!

I actually like Delores writing, and she happens to have some fun reads. Even though Those Texas Nights does have some serious complications. I mean Sophie's life plan pretty much crumbles, but it all works out for the best. However, it's a pretty long process. She actually learns what she truly wants out of life along the way, seriously, it's not an easy road. We meet a whole knew family in the Grangers. Boy are they an interesting family.
Now Those Texas Nights focuses on Sophie, but we get to see a little of her brothers. After all they are part of her life. Like I said there are some pretty funny parts to this story. A lot of gossip, then again it's a small town, and yes, small town drama.

Okay, there are some characters that play an important roll to this story:
Sophie for obvious reasons. Clay the interim chief, and he has been waiting to become the real chief. Anyway, he comes with lots of baggage that he would like to leave behind. However, baggage loves to follow you no matter what. He has a hard time coming to terms. Then there is his impulsive sister April. Oh my gosh, I would have smacked the girl, because she's crazy. There is Brantley who happens to leave Sophie at the altar, and marries another, April. Talk all the drama that surrounds Sophie and Clay. We also see what will lead to the next book.

Overall, Those Texas Nights was a pretty good read. Yes, drama is there, but there are some funny times. I didn't expected to find that. I'm curious how Sophie's brothers going to fare.

It’s a good enough story but I got impatient with the pace of the romance. They keep telling themselves and each other that their interest in each other is wrong, based solely on the opinions of others. Then they ignore those opinions and their own supposed common sense. Nothing good happens to Sophie until she finally gets it on with Clay a good two-thirds or more into the book. It was hard to tell how far into the book I was because of the separate novella at the end. That novella, titled Lone Star Cowboy, is more of the same. Two people who others insist shouldn’t be together. The only good reasons any of these others have is potential heartbreak. As if heartbreak isn’t a risk in any close relationship. I took a long time to finish this book because nothing in it pulled me back to reading. I also wondered how much room there is for all these ranches around the small town of Wrangler’s Creek. The novella raised more questions, like why do they need so many cutting horses with modern ranching methods, no mention of competition, which also has limited needs, and how do you train cutting horses without cattle?

Sophie has been dumped on her wedding day..She sneaks out of the church to see Clay the interim chief trying to get him to pretend they have been having an affair...They end up getting to each other though they both know it is bad..While all this is going on Clay keeps getting pink envelopes, someone has taken all the money from Sophie and her brothers company and is on the run. Then Clay's sister turns up married to Sophie's almost husband Brantley. There is a lot of fighting and accusations of people sleeping with others such as Clay and Sophie, who are sneaking around. I laughed through this book..the expressions they used when cussing just tickled me..I could heard myself saying that....This book was so very good! I couldn't put it down..A page turner to see what happened to Sophie and Clay next...Great new series.I can't wait for the next book!

Those Texas Nights is the first installment in the Wrangler’s Creek series and it was a great read and introduction to the characters. I felt so bad for Sophie a day that should have been the happiest day in her life ended up being the worst in her life. But that day was not the only time that her life was going to be turned upside down her family’s business is in major trouble. Clay is trying to make a new life in a new town after the ordeal that happened in his previous job. Now he is trying to take care of his sister and at the same time wait to see if they are going to offer him the Chief of Police. He is going to encounter some interesting people in Wrangler’s Creek but that is also where he is going to encounter love. The storyline is perfect and the characters were well developed. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.

Those Texas Nights by Delores Fossen is an exciting yet hot read. This novel, was my first by Delores Fossen. The cover caught my attention immediately, and I was ecstatic to read it. After reading it, I was happy with my purchase. The novel contained a lot of action. Both heat and danger kind. The growing attraction between the Police Chief and main heroine sizzled. They tried to ignore the instant connection. However, it only drove them both crazy. Once they let it out, they'll never go back. Ranching, fraud investigation , noisy town and crazy families. Delores Fossen had me hooked with this intriguing tale. Romance, suspense, and an emotional journey to enjoy. I loved reading Those Texas Nights. I highly recommend it to readers everywhere.

I can't seem to help myself every time I see a Fossen book I have to pick it up. This one is no exception. I have came to like her HQN line better than her intrigue series and that is saying a lot. Sophie and Clay were no exception they are a couple that is made for each other, yet try fighting it because of family and community circumstances as well as a few skeletons they both have in the closet. You know that book that you want to get to the end so you can see everyone finally happy for the couple yet you don't want to get to the end because once you do you know the book will be over, well that is what this book is like. I can't wait to read more in this series. So far I have witnessed great sex, lustful role playing, family drama, and family loyalty. A great wonderful read!

Fun read with a likeable cast of characters.
Boy, don’t rumours spread quickly in this place.
Poor Sophie, what a run of bad luck she has gone through, all within a short space of time. Ditched at the altar, her company and finances frozen due to embezzlement and then even more things going on.
Thought her pursuit of Clay made her weak.
Clay, hard to say I liked him as he seemed cold. Happy to have sex with Sophie but kept warning her he was not looking for any relationship.
Then he just changes his mind.
All the intertwined relationships made for a strange mix of characters.
Liked the little short story LONE STAR COWBOY at the end but it should be read prior to this main story apparently.

This as a 3.5 book because it was not quite long enough. When Sophie Granger is left at the alter by her long time boyfriend and her accountant at her company steals all of her money, she is faced with decisions that will change her life. The biggest decision she made was to ask the new Sheriff in town to pretend to be her date so she could save face with her family and friends. It doesn’t take long in this small town for everyone to believe her and Clay McKinnon are the reason for the wedding fiasco. To make matters just a little worse, her ex marries the Sheriff’s sister almost immediately. Delores Fossen has a way with humor even in the worse situations and that is what this book is about. I loved the story.

I really enjoyed reading this really steamy romantic western novel! I like that Clay is a smoking hot cowboy/police chief that has a rough side but can still sweep a women right off her feet. Sophie is a city girl who has all of Clay’s attention and desire to make her want to stay up in this small Texas town. The chemistry is hot and steamy between these two so much that you are feel it radiating off the pages. This book is full of love, romance and hope that it will renew your belief in second chances. Overall a great romantic read that would be perfect for any lover of romantic western novels.

I listened to the audiobook version and really enjoyed this small-town romance and its quirky cast of characters. The intrigue and chapter cliffhangers kept me engaged and wanting to hear more. The only problem for me is that overall it read like a sweet romance with steamy sex scenes added in as a forced afterthought from the author. While I prefer steamy, it didn’t work for me in this case, and think the narrative should have stuck with the sweet route. I enjoyed the male narrator as he did a good job doing the female voices as well.

Haven't laughed so hard in a long time! This book was humorous and had a great story line. Clay moved to Wrangler Springs to escape a nightmare. Sophie moved back, after her fiancé dumped her on their wedding day, & finding out that her family's company was under FBI investigation for money laundering. Clay's sister & Sophie's ex get married...and the drama ramps up. Throw in feral chickens, a lady who pronounces curses, and you will be DWL!! Now on to Garrett's story...
