Carter is a type 1 diabetic in need of insulin—and Shelby will risk her life traveling to Austin to make sure he gets it.

Shelby's best friend and high school sweetheart, Max Berkman, won't even consider letting her make the perilous journey alone. Together, they manage to get to the capital—only to discover that while things are desperate in Abney, Austin has turned into an urban nightmare on the brink of anarchy.

Shelby and Max's search for medical supplies will lead them into terrifying territory, where the only thing more uncertain than finding what they need is the hope of making it out of the city alive.

Raging Storm is book two in the Remnant Series. I definitely recommend reading book one, Deep Shadows, as it sets up the devastating situation that these characters find themselves in and gives a lot of good background information that helps the reader understand what Max, Shelby, Carter, and all of the characters in this novel are facing.

I absolutely loved Deep Shadows, yet I loved Raging Storm even more! I really appreciated that the novel covered not only the journey to Austin that Max, Shelby, and their friends were on, but also kept tabs on what was going on with Shelby’s son, Carter, back at High Fields. Both storylines were equally fascinating to me.

The author did a great job of showing the way society had broken down. The characters found themselves in multiple precarious situations, yet despair was balanced with moments of hope. Although many dangerous encounters ocurred, there were pockets of good people out there. I could easily visualize the distruction and chaos that was the new reality.

This story left me VERY, VERY anxious to know what happens next! I highly recommed Raging Storm and the entire series to those who enjoy dystopian novels.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Once you turn that first page and get your bearings, remembering the first book Deep Shadows and the solar flare that put us where we are today.
I felt like I was reading a movie and I was one of the participants, and there were bullets whizzing past my head, and found myself ducking. Can you imagine even where you live; no more power and nothing with computer chips working? How would you survive, do we have the skills to, and found myself questioning my abilities, I do live in the country and have acreage, and a pond with fish. While you think about surviving the author reminds us that there is someone out there that wants all that you have even if they don’t need it, and will use all means to take it. There is no law, and the false profits have arisen in abundance, who to trust.
I have one big complaint, I was reading along and page turning, when boom, it was like I fell off a cliff, and I tried to turn another page, but there wasn’t anymore, now I am bidding my time for the next book, which can’t come fast enough.
I received this book through Net Galley, the Author, and the Publisher Harvest House, and was not required to give a positive review.

I always highly anticipate reading Vannetta Chapman's new releases. Raging Storm is certainly no exception and reading it has further cemented my opinion of her as an author with varied talents who can and does write fiction that is clean, exciting, interesting, and thought provoking.

As book two in The Remnant Series opens, Raging Storm has the featured individuals from book one (Deep Shadows) now venturing forth to find medical supplies for the inhabitants of their small town. They must try to avoid raging gangs of evil, unscrupulous people caught up in the devastation that resulted from the solar flare that left civilization totally uncivilized with no electricity or other utilities, no food, no medical supplies or hospitals, no protection. Conditions are bad. In fact, they are now so much worse than bad.

As they pierce the evil that is enveloping the large capital city, they do find a small group of people who call themselves "the Remnant." But they also find a different group ensconced in an old church that promises refuge but proves otherwise. Just who can they trust?

Will they be able to find the much needed medical supplies? How will they survive?

The questions this story opens up to niggle in our heads is, "What would we do if our world should today suddenly cease to exist? How would we react? How would we manage? Would we still hold to our faith in God?"

I highly recommended. Get a copy of Deep Shadows (The Remnant Series #1) and read it. Then read Raging Story (The Remnant Series #2.

I received a complimentary copy from the author to facilitate a review of my honest opinions which is freely given.

Having read Vannetta's first book in this series entitled "The Remnant". I was eagerly anticipating the adventures that this book would bring!! Never would I have thought that I would be "hooked" on Dystopian fiction!! BUT, I am now (at least with the author being Vannetta Chapman)!! Her first book, "Deep Shadows" had me on the edge of my seat with my heart pounding ! I am pleased to say that this second book was certainly no disappointment!! It is totally believable , thus very frightening. The situations that occur could happen in our lifetime. It is a story that is written is such realistic and believable detail, that it stays with you long after you have finished reading. I found myself searching deep within, am I ready to cope with the challenges and disasters that the characters met on a daily basis??

The characters are ordinary people just like you and I! But what they encounter is everyone's nightmare! They are easy to identify with and I found myself so deeply involved in their lives that I worried about them and so wanted to reach out to help! I had to remind myself that this is a work of fiction!! Shelby and Max were indeed dear, caring Christians who were struggling to survive! The desire to succeed was clear! Their challenges became mine as I walked along beside them in this roller coaster ride of life. The valleys were so deep that the hills seemed very low!!

The plot moved steadily and quickly with twists and turns cropping up at the most unexpected moments. I had many questions and suspicions however they constantly were disrupted and proven wrong as a new problem appeared on the scene.

This book is most definitely a cliff hanger!! I am barely hanging on as I await the next in this series!! The ending cropped up so quickly, it hit me with a giant bang!! I HAVE to find out what will happen next!!

Get writing , Vannetta!! I can't wait too long!!

This book was a gift. The opinions expressed are honest and my own.

Truth be told this series kind of scares me. It has left me with a whole string of 'what ifs' that make me realize that I am totally doomed if a solar flare actually does wipe out all modern technology. LOL And yes, I know this is fiction but Chapman has created a realistic vision of what life might be like after this kind of natural disaster. And it's unsettling. But makes for a riveting read.

This is book two in the Remnant series and this is definitely a case of needing to read the books in order as, with all dystopian series, each book depends upon the others and there tends to be cliffhangerish endings that leave readers gnashing their teeth and pulling out their hair, which Raging Storms definitely does!

There's plenty of action and stomach churning twists and turns as Shelby and Max and their friends make their harrowing journey across an apocalyptic Texas. And it isn't pretty. Truly terrifying in places. Plus there's a secondary plot involving Shelby's teenage son which brings its own unique spin to their desperate situation.

As overwhelming as parts of this story can be, hope still shines through as people of faith rise to the challenge and seek to serve the 'least of these.' I'm anxious to see what develops among the Remnant in the final installment of this epic saga. I can't wait for Light of Dawn to release and I can (hopefully) breathe a huge sigh of relief!

*I received a copy of this book from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review*

This book was an excellent interpretation of what would happen if the world lost all power - this book shows us how reliant we, as the human race, have become on technology in this day and age.

I must admit, for me, this book dragged until I reached about halfway. The events kept repeating themselves - meet a good group who wants to help, meet an evil group who take your belongings, meet another good group, etc. I felt that the book should have taken place over a longer course of time than just five days, especially considering the length of the book.

I also felt that this book ended abruptly. Shelby finally gets back and finds out that Carter has had an accident, and it's pretty bad, but the book ends just as she's opening the door to see him - I wanted to read on and find out if he survived, what his reaction is to see his mother walk in. I thought that, as the book is a long one, another two or three pages could have been written so that the reader knows that Carter is either going to be okay or not.

I liked the story, despite my opinions about the faults, and Recommend it to end-of-the-world, post-apocalypse lovers.

Let me start off saying you need to read this series in order (Overshadowed, Deep Shadows and then Raging Storm) to understand and grasp what is happening.

This is the best dystopian series I have read to date and that says a lot considering I love the Hunger Games series. Chapman incorporates Christianity into the novels without overpowering the reader. She makes you think while you are reading and take notice of what is happening in the real world. Could this really happen and am I prepared in any way to survive even 24 hours?

I read this book in less than 24 hours because I could not wait to find out what happens. Now I am anxiously biting my nails for the third book to be released. Well, I hope there is a third book. I have to know what happens to everyone. I don't want to say too much and give anything away.

If you aren't sure you like dystopian fiction give this series a try, you may surprise yourself.

Thank you to Harvest House Publishers and NetGalley for a free copy to read for my honest review.

A solar flare has caused chaos. People are afraid. Medicine, food and other supplies are in short supply. With no electricity, how will people survive? Carter needs insulin and Shelby is determined to find the needed medicine for her son. This story takes the reader on the continuous journey of the pursuit of items needed to survive. The author gives such details that I felt as if I was right there along with the people in the story. Could this really happen? When you read this story, you will wonder and maybe even start to prepare. Excellent story. I received a copy of this story from the author and Net Galley. This is my personal honest opinion of the story.

Raging Storm by Vannetta Chapman is the second book in The Remnant series. Shelby Sparks and her son, Carter have relocated with Max Berkman to High Fields. High Fields is the farm belonging to Gloria and Roy Berkman, Max’s parents. With the destruction of the Sparks home and the problems Abney is encountering, it made sense to relocate. But Shelby does not plan on staying at the farm for long. She needs to get to Austin to find more insulin for Carter. Shelby’s first priority is taking care of her son and he needs the insulin to survive. Max, of course, will not let Shelby go alone (he loves Shelby and wants to protect her). The two of them set off for Austin, but encounter a problem when they reach Abney. Nadine Perkins, the mayor, wishes them to find medicine for the town. They are in desperate need of antibiotics and other medications. Mayor Perkins insists that they take Dr. Farhan Bhatti with them. He knows Austin and the medications needed. Shelby resents the delay, and she distrusts Dr. Bhatti, but the mayor is leaving them with no choice. Patrick Goodnight and Bianca Lopez will be joining them on the perilous journey to Austin. Bianca and Patrick will follow in a second vehicle and provide backup in case they encounter trouble along the way. This group was not prepared for what they encounter in Austin. Will Shelby be able to find the insulin she so desperately needs for her son? Will this group be able to get out of Austin and back home?

Raging Storm picks up where Deep Shadows left off. Raging Storm is even better than the first book. This book is well-written and engaging. I was immediately drawn in and kept reading until I finished the story. The novel has a good pace which makes it a pleasure to read. I give Raging Storm 4.5 out of 5 stars (I really liked it). The only sour note was Shelby. I had trouble liking her in Deep Shadows, and I found her discourteous in the first half of this novel. Shelby is impatient (dislikes every delay in their journey) and is only thinking about her objective for the journey (I understand her concern, and I have issues with patience myself). However, Shelby does change over the course of the story and improves in the second half of the book. I think that Vannetta Chapman did a remarkable job at depicting what life would be like if we experienced a disaster. We would like to think that people would help each other out and come together as a community. But it is not realistic. Many people would be looking out for themselves and trying to find ways to profit from the disaster (you know I am being realistic). I liked how Ms. Chapman tied Raging Storm back to Overshadowed. Readers finally get to find out about The Remnant and how it connects to the story. I am curious to see what will happen in the next book in The Remnant series. Raging Storm is not a stand-alone novel. You do need to read Overshadowed and Deep Shadows prior to Raging Storm.

I loved this book. I hope that what happens in this book never happens in real life but I know that it could. This really shows what people will be like during such a crisis. It is hard to envision but from what has happened over the last few years when only a small tragedy occurs it really isn't. I loved the characters and hope they all survive in the next installment. It is going to be hard to wait for book three. I received a copy of this book from Harvest House Publishers for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

What if you suddenly found yourself launched into a new era of primitive living? One where chaos ruled the terrain, everything you knew had suddenly disappeared, and the only person you could trust is yourself.

Would you survive?

Vannetta Chapman’s sequel novel in The Remnant Series, Raging Storm, dwells on this kind of survival. The kind of survival that looks beyond the next five minutes, the next few hours, the next day. The kind of survival that sees beyond the rising chaos and raging uncertainty. Survival that quells the rolling fear found in the depths of hearts uncertain.

Shelby Sparks is learning what it means to feel fear and survive in spite of it. She has to, not only for her own survival, but for the survival of her teenage son who is in desperate need of insulin as their stash is dwindling in short supply. Gathering courage and ammo, Shelby and a few close friends make their way to Austin, TX to find the medication they so badly need. But things are more dire in the big city then they were led to believe. In fact, its boarder-line apocalyptic madness! The government is hanging on by a thread, bodies line the streets, the city is burning, and drug lords rule eery corner. Will Shelby and her friends ever find what they are searching for, or will the Austin eat them alive?

Readers will find themselves eagerly turning pages, unable to put Raging Storm down! Intensely thrilling and intricately descriptive, this dystopian read is an excellent sequel to Chapman’s Deep Shadows. In fact, I might just like it more than book one!!

I was graciously provided a free copy of this novel from Vannetta Chapman and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.

I enjoyed this book overall, although "enjoy" seems like an odd descriptor when we're dealing with the near-total collapse of society... :P

Honestly, Carter's parts were my favorite in this installment, and I found myself understanding and appreciating his perspective quite a bit. I love how, even with everything he's been through, he still looks for ways to apply his knowledge and ingenuity to help make other people's lives better. Also, I totally understood how difficult it would be for him to know that others were risking their lives for his and not be allowed to do anything to help it. Oh, and I adored his relationship with Roy and Georgia! <3

Shelby, on the other hand, annoyed me rather badly at times. For one thing, I couldn't figure out why she thought the chaos in Austin wasn't going to be exponentially worse than the chaos in Abney. Granted, there are certain things that don't make rational sense (like people burning perfectly good buildings for no reason), but I felt like a lot of problems that knocked Shelby for a loop were rather foreseeable. Also, her apparent assumption that they were just going to be able to waltz into Austin, find the insulin, and trade for it without any knowledge of the lay of the land was a bit baffling, and when combined with her impatience every time they had to take a detour or wait for someone who could help them, it became downright frustrating. Maybe her impatience would have been more understandable if they had been up against a tighter deadline--say, if Carter had only had a week's supply of insulin left--but as it was, every time Shelby started to complain about how long it was taking, I wanted to stare at her and ask, "What did you expect?" My frustration with her on that point in particular made it a little hard to empathize with her as much as I wanted to.

I did love all her friends and the way they surrounded and supported her--that scene near the end... *sobs* And while I had guessed the generalities of one character's revelation, I had not guessed the specifics, and I had to backtrack and revise my mental image of a certain character a bit. :) I also enjoyed getting to know several of the peripheral characters as well.

The near-total anarchy did come with a fair bit of violence, and I liked the fact that the characters acknowledged the moral dilemmas they faced, although there weren't a lot of straightforward answers. I did hesitate at one point when Shelby was mulling over the lengths she'd go to to protect Carter's insulin supply--is it the same as self-defense when you're protecting something necessary to someone's survival?--but overall, I thought the author did a good job of not shying away from how difficult these issues are, even in a survival scenario.

I was a little confused by the ending--not sure why it ends on a cliffhanger when the next book appears to pick up months afterward--but maybe that will become clear in the next one. I'm still very curious how or whether they're going to solve the problem of a long-term insulin supply with society in the state that it is at the moment...

3.5 stars

Content--mentions of blood, wounds, dead bodies, etc.; violence, including gunplay and deaths; mentions of swearing; mentions of smoking and drug use; mentions of kissing; mentions of a cult-like leader manipulating people

This is the second installment in The Remnant Series from Vannetta Chapman and I would recommend reading the first book, Deep Shadows, also.
The cover gives the reader a glimpse of the chilling story it contains.
This gripping dystopian series is set in Texas just after a massive solar flare has hit. This is a fast paced story about Shelby's journey to the capitol in search of the much needed medication for her son.
This is a story that stayed with me even after closing the last page.
I am not a person who really likes dystopian books, but I must admit I am hooked on this series. For me the characters are so easy to relate to.   Shelby encounters a rapidly deteriorating society outside of their refuge and learns that the life she once knew was gone.  I loved how Shelby kept her faith in God during all the trials she encounters.
This is a wonderful book with a plot that will quickly pull the reader in.  I will warn you that you need to be prepared to read this book in one setting because when you open it up you won't want to put it down.  This book brings elements of mystery, suspense, love, forgiveness, and faith. I would recommend it to anyone.

I absolutely loved Deep Shadows, book one, and have been super excited to read Raging Storm. My mom read this before me and devoured it, but warned me that I might want to wait until it was closer to the release date for book three, Light of Dawn, because of the gigantic cliffhanger. Since it's close to the release of Light of Dawn, I thought I should get to reading this one... and now I completely understand my mom's warning!... I NEED BOOK THREE NOW!

It took me a little bit to get into this book, but once I did, I had a difficult time putting it down! My favorite parts were reading about Carter and life on the ranch with Max's parents Georgia and Roy. They're such a great influence on Carter and I loved watching him grow and adapt to so much in such a short amount of time.

Shelby got on my nerves a bit in the beginning. I completely understood her impatience and attitude, but I still cringed when she took it out on others. Max was one of my favorite characters. He's a steady, strong, good guy, a stable force in a world gone mad. A lot was revealed about the mysterious Dr. Bhatti, what he was hiding, what he was doing in Abney... very interesting!

I had so much anxiety the entire book. There was a sense of urgency that permeated all throughout and I couldn't read it fast enough. The author did a magnificent job at painting a vivid and realistic picture of what the world would look like if the electrical grid goes down and all modern technology is lost. It's haunting and bleak at times, but there's also an underlying theme of hope. I seriously can't wait to read Light of Dawn and I highly recommend this series to everyone!

This is one of my most anticipated reads of the year....I knew it would be GOOD, but it was BETTER than I thought!!! I was truly nervous what more could go wrong in Raging Storm after experiencing Deep Shadows, but even there is LOTS of intensity to this story, these characters TRULY amazed me in their resilience, faith, and loyalty. Maybe that's the key to any apocalyptic story, good writing included, but also characters that make it worthwhile NO MATTER how desperate the situation gets.

In Deep Shadows, Shelby and her friends stay in one town, Abney, and they have to fight to survive in that one place. The scariest part of that book was recognizing the flare/changes it caused so quickly and realizing it was permanent. In Raging Storm, the four best friends reunite to go on a mission seeking insulin for Shelby's son, Carter, and there's more traveling involved.

I would normally recommend reading the first book before the sequel, but the author brilliantly formats the story so that it can be read as a stand alone.

The main characters are Shelby, Biana, Max, and Patrick....then there's Max's parents Roy and Georgia who are with Carter. There are some characters from the first book and new ones introduced, both good and not so good. I was amazed by every situation they got out of, Shelby and her friends were my heroes throughout the story. They risked their lives for Carter and others who were protecting abandoned children. Have to mention the name Danny, him and Eugene Stone both need justice, this is so I will remember them in Book 3.

"I'm sure it was, but that's sort of the fringe. The real trouble is in the more crowded areas."

"Can you be a little more specific?" Max asked. "Like you said, it's better that we're prepared."

Kenny glanced left, out the window, and then returned his gaze to Shelby's. "Bodies--a lot of them."

"Bodies?"

"The stench is something terrible. Folks have nowhere to bury their dead and no means to do so. Most people living in an apartment don't own a shovel."

"So no one is in charge?"

"Some people think they are, and some neighborhoods are better than others. Trash is a problem. When the food that was in the freezers went bad, people just tossed it beside Dumpsters as if someone was going to show up and fetch it for them. Sanitation is a problem. Toilets don't work. Hospitals...well, most of them had to close their doors because no one came to cover their shift."

The rain began to patter on the roof, growing increasingly louder as the sky continued to darken. Peering through the windshield, Shelby had a hard time believing it was midmorning.

"Rats, wild dogs, children...that's probably the worst for me, seeing the children."

Described well, but not in gory detail. Just enough to tug at your heart.

In the beginning of the story, there's a scene in a big barn that got TENSE quickly! Reminded me of the show The Walking Dead minus the zombies. LOTS of gun knowledge in this story!

If I remember correctly, Gabe Thompson is the guy from Overshadowed, he has been under an alias the whole time.

I pictured Raven to be Michelle Rodriguez.

We learn about the Remnant in this book, which of course is the name of the series, but here we will see why that name is relevant.

I also considered what would happen to your pets in this situation....? That gets answered in the story also, sad. If you enjoy zoo animals, a few make an appearance in the story, thought THAT was interesting!

As intense as the story is, there is also friendship, strength, hope and humor....Chapman style! Just because it's the end of the world and things can get gloomy, doesn't mean all is lost.

Hated the scene with Danny and his men, LOVED the scene where the four friends help Bill at the end, didn't cry until 40 pages in and then cried again at the end, it was just touching stuff. Didn't consider anything scary, just kept bracing myself for the main characters to hang in there. A few people get shot or shot at, but despite the hardship in Raging Storm, I really considered Deep Shadows to have more violence. I was nervous about reading this book, but so glad I went for it. The story REALLY and TRULY blessed me despite the intensity and how much could possibly go wrong so fast!!! On the other hand, there are also miracles and examples of God's love and provision throughout. Oh, and poor Carter! Loved it and can't wait for Book 3!!!

Thanks to the author and publisher for the review copy provided. I was not required to write a positive review, all thoughts and comments are my own.

I long awaited book two in Vannetta Chapman's 'The Remnant Series' and I wasn't disappointed. Vannetta writes so descriptively that it's easy for the reader to 'ride' along with the characters and feel like they are part of the story. She often had me on the edge of my seat as the characters went through narrowing situations. I eagerly await the next book in the series.

After a massive solar flare wipes out the power grid, technology comes to a crashing halt in Albney, Texas as well as all over the country. Normal peace abiding citizens fight for survival and a way to stay alive. Shelby Sparks is determined to go to Austin to try and find insulin for her diabetic son.

Max Berkman has been in love with Shelby since high school and is determined to go with her to Austin and help her find what she desperately needs. He'd give his life for her and her son.

Trouble meets them at every turn. What would have been a quick trip before the solar flare is now a hair-raising, trouble-riddled excursion.

I highly recommend this book and this series.

RAGING STORM BOOK # 2 THE REMNANT SERIES BY VANNETTA CHAPMAN

Raging Storm is a fascinating, spellbinding, book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you turning the pages.

Raging Storm tells the story of destruction, survival, chaos as the world suffers the aftermath of a massive solar flare.

For Shelby Sparks, and her friends, it is the need to find insulin, for Shelby's diabetic son, Carter and much needed medical suppies for the town of Abney Texas.

Their journey to the capital city of Austin has them facing the unknown. They have to be careful of who they trust and if need be, kill in order to survive. The deterioration of the city of Austin, is beyond their wildest dreams.

I really, really enjoyed reading Raging Storm, as well as the first book in the series Deep Shadows.
I can hardly wait to read Book # 3 in this series.

The book was very well written. I would highly recommend Raging Storm (and Deep Shadows) to my friends, or anyone else to read

I refer you to my review of Deep Shadows by this same author, and the first full length book in this series, as I have put most of my total reaction to the whole series in that review. Raging Storm is every bit as intense and powerful as the first book, because you HAVE to know what happens after Shadows.
This is a very believable story. How do you pursue "normal" life after a huge life-altering natural disaster?
In my humble opinion, this is very well written. It held my attention, that's for sure!!! Now I'm waiting for the next installment!!!

The Raging Storm ( The Remnant Series-Book 2 )
By: Vannetta Chapman
The Raging Story is book two in The Remnant series by Vannetta Chapman. I have read the first book Deep Shadows and the E book novella Overshadowed . I have really loved them all . I would tell you that you need to read this series in order to fully understand the story. A massive solar flare has hit and wiped out all the globe. Cars ,Banks, drugstores , grocery stores all are no longer running, opened ,are even there. Everywhere you go there is places burning and the smoke is so bad that I felt like I was smelling it just reading. No police to protect you. This series really got to me and it made me think that I am not stocked up and prepared for this to happen. I need to go to the stores. When I got started reading Raging Storm I did not want to put it down till the end , WOW, and then I was crying for more. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Chapman draws you in at the start and then you are hooked. I would advise you to find your favorite reading place and start reading, but don't forget to breathe and hang on for you life. Shelby , her best friend Max, and three more start out on a journey to Austin Texas to hunt for some insulin for Carter, Shelby’s son who is a type 1 diabetes and needs his insulin to live. They go up against all kinds of problems on their journey. Will they all survive and can they find what they are looking for?
I was given a copy of this book by Harvest House publishers and the author, but I was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

This. Book. Vannetta has done it again! This is book 2 in the Remnant Series. It is a MUST read. If you haven't read book 1, please do. Although it can be read as a stand-alone, you will want to know the characters as book 2 opens.

After a major solar flare, civilization as we know is in for a rocky ride! As Shelby sets out with Max, Bianca and Patrick to find insulin for her son, although they expect trouble, they are in for some real big adventures, beyond what one would imagine.

Vannetta Chapman's research must have been so intense. I felt as though I was there experiencing whatever Shelby and her group faced. It was amazing and I couldn't put it down. Reading in bed with a flashlight kind of book!

The writing was professional, engaging and so very intense. Book 3 can't come soon enough for me!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for my review. All thoughts are my own.

The second book in the Remnant Series, Raging Storm is a followup of Deep Shadows, the first in the series. Raging Storm can be a stand alone novel, but by all means, don't miss Deep Shadows for the backdrop of this dystopian thriller. It reveals the background and continuation for the fast paced action in Raging Storm.

The characters are complex and diverse, and the relationship between Max and Shelby is somewhat complicated. Max is an admirable hero figure, as Shelby is at times frustrating. The two make a very engaging team. Horrifying situations make their relationship intense as they take on a mission to obtain insulin for Shelby's teenage son.

A massive solar flare has changed the world into a war zone. Survival alone has created a volatile situation in which everyone is fighting for their lives. Massive hysteria has become the norm, and attempting to obtain insulin and other necessary medications is next to impossible. The true nature of humans surfaces throughout terrifying situations.

Raging Storm will increase your heart rate and shock you into the possibilities of a very conceivable event. This novel is one to be absorbed with the concept that our complex world is dependent upon an environment that our ancestors couldn't imagine. We all have much to learn from this eye opening phenomenon.

I highly recommend Raging Storm. It is another unforgettable narrative from an extremely talented author, Vannetta Chapman!

Raging Storm is book 2 of the Remnant Series. If possible this book is even more of an intriguing adventure than book 1 , Deep Shadows . We are drawn deeper into the story as chaos and anger erupt through out the community . After leaving Abbey , Texas , Shelby, Max and Carter go to check on Max's parents at High Fields Ranch . Overwhelmed by worry , Shelby prepares to make a trip to Austin in search of insulin for Carter, who has type 1 diabetes. Max refuses to allow Shelby to make this dangerous trip alone.
The story continues on as Shelby and Max make the trip into the heart of Austin Texas in search of insulin. This thriller is an edge of the seat page turner. Heart in mouth suspense around every bend in the road and streets in the city. Will Shelby get her insulin she must have to save Carter's life? How much risk is she willing to endure in order to get what she needs.
Vannetta Chapman has done an excellent job of getting her research together to make this adventure more real to the readers. I actually could visualize Max and Shelby as they drove the streets of Austin avoiding points of danger at every turn. As the story comes to an end it isn't really over as the stage is set for book three.
I gave Raging Storm 5 stars as the book was very well written. Kept me interested from chapter one to the last chapter. If you enjoy suspense thrillers you won't want to miss this one. I advise that Deep Shadows be read first as Raging Storm continues on from where it left off. (less)

In Raging Storm, we continue to invest ourselves with the characters, Shelby, Max, Carter and friends. We see two stories enfolding, and as the author take us to look at the wider picture: when chaos breaks out, when the government institution is holding on by a thread, and when there is the type of evil out there that is very real, that's when we find the reality of it all set in. It can happen, and how can you live with that kind of fear? How can you survive with fear knocking on your door every step of the way? What and WHO can give you courage? What principles can you hold onto? What is faith? Raging Storm sets your heart in motion page by page, scene by scene, almost like you can visualize it play out in front of you. It beats and tense and then wham, you hit the end. That ending, I wish it could've soften the blow a bit. A cliffhanger indeed.

The Remnant series is meant to be read as a series, and though you do get some background, I would suggest reading the series in order. It's dystopian filled with suspense that you can't wait for the next book to be out.

Raging Storm by Vannetta Chapman is book 2 in the Remnant Series. Overshadowed and Deep Shadows need to be read first to understand what's going on. I was afraid I wouldn't remember what was going on in the previous books when I started reading Raging Storm but it was written in a way that recaps without being boring or out of place with the story.

The possibility of a solar flare or other issues that would knock the electrical grid out is frightening to think about. This series should make us reevaluate whether we're as prepared as we should be. I even asked my husband about getting solar energy and how hard (and expensive) a windmill would be for our water well.

Shelby, Max, Bianca and Patrick have quite an eye opening adventure while trying to find insulin for Carter. Non stop action kept me glued to the book. The only issue I have is the ending. Oh my, I know it won't be too long before book 3 is out but really.....did it have to end there? I do recommend everyone read this series!

I absolutely loved this book! It was fascinating to go along with the characters as they ventured out of their somewhat safe town into a complete unknown. There was tons of action and suspense as you never knew what was going to happen next and as they came into contact with increasingly desperate people. There was a little bit of romance and some talk of faith and prayer as they tried to have hope and faith that God would see them through their difficult circumstances. I loved the different points of view so we're able to see what Shelby and Max are each experiencing and what they're thinking, along with Shelby's son, Carter. I really enjoyed seeing him grow and change and he got into quite a few situations himself as he stayed back at the ranch with Max's parents. I liked all of the characters overall, but there were a couple situations where Max and Shelby's behavior really frustrated me, so they definitely weren't perfect characters! There were quite a few twists and not everyone was what they seemed. There were also some handy emergency preparedness lists in the back, from what to keep in your car to how to build a greenhouse. I can't recommend this series enough if you like this type of story. I can't wait for the next one!

I received this book free from Harvest House Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

First, let me state that I am a huge fan of Vannetta Chapman's writing. I feel that she spends a great deal of time in research and stretches the imagination. I have always enjoyed dystopian novels, but this one fell short for me. It pains me to say this because I don't like to be critical. I think that, for this particular series, it is extremely important to read the first book in the series. I did not read that first book and I was confused and found it very difficult to get interested in the book until the very last quarter of the book.
The writing was impeccable as always with Vannetta's books. I think that many readers, especially those who have read the first book in series, will find this book very enjoyable.
I am giving this book a rating of 4 stars and I do recommend it to those who have already read the first book in the series. Of course, I always feel that no matter what others have rated a book, everyone makes their own choice. In fact, for me, when a great number of readers are negative about a book, I like to read it to see if I agree!
I was given a copy of this book by netgalley and I was not required to write a review and I was not required for any review written be positive.

I won this book through GoodReads First Read program.

This is the 2nd book of the Remnant series and I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book of the series. I was not a big fan of Shelby. She was on a mission to get insulin for her son Carter after a solar flare shuts down all electric power in the world. She is off to Austin, Texas with Max, Patrick and Bianca. It is understandable that she is focused on getting insulin for her son but she is rude, hurtful and singularly focused to the extent that she is completely unsympathetic. You can be focused on your mission yet still show some compassion for others. Shelby is not that person.

The search for insulin and medical supplies is what this book is about. The problems they face on their mission makeup the rest of the book. There is some side story of Carter who is left with Max's parents while Shelby is off on her search and that was really the best part of the book.

I like end of the world type stories and this had a lot of potential with the main characters being Christians. However, Christianity didn't play as big a part in the story as I would have liked. I hope the final book is more like the first.

I enjoy reading novels by Vannetta Chapman. I've read all of the Amish novels that she has written and now that she is writing dystopia novels (an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one) I'm in a whole new world.
