Avenging Angel

EARTHLY DELIGHTS

With a messed up family background and a tendency to grow claws and fangs, Tanner Chance isn t exactly the boy next door. But he s a decent cop, and he keeps himself on the side of the good guys. Convenient, because when he rescues a survivor of a horrific shifter attack he finds himself instantly smitten with an honest-to-goodness angel, as innocent as she is irresistible.

Marna may be angelic, but she s not stupid or weak. She can take care of herself. Tanner is more temptation than protection anyway. Or so she thinks, until someone wearing her face starts taking out some of New Orleans' more unsavory paranormals. With police and predators both gunning for her blood, Marna has no choice but to trust Tanner even though what's sparking between them is hotter than anything holy.

Avenging Angel was another enjoyable read in The Fallen Series. I loved Tanner and Marna together and I'm hoping Bastion gets a book. I must admit my favorite parts of the story were when Sammael was around since he was my favorite of the series.

This was another incredible read in The Fallen series by Cynthia Eden. Each book has been an adventure rich in danger and drama. Marna’s story was all that the earlier books were and more due to the fact that it was not her actions that made her a “fallen”. I loved everything about this story. Tanner was pure perfection in the way he obsessed over her, despite his initial belief in what she may have done, and his protection of her was swoon worthy.

While this is layered with twists and turns it is also filled with steamy interactions that will singe your ereader. The journey towards the resolution had me tense and anxious before giving me everything I love. I can’t recommend this series and this book enough. This can be read as a standalone if desired.

I loved this book!!!

In Angel in Chains Marna had her wings ripped off, by a psychotic shifter. But she’s saved by his brothers. The big question is, are they good guys or as bad as their brother?

Tanner is a shifter and a cop, and he’s had a thing for Marna ever since he looked into her baby blues. He knows he should stay away from her, but she’s an angel in a hard world. He wants to protect her from both the murder she’s been framed of committing, and a danger she doesn’t see coming.

Marna doesn’t need or want Tanner’s protection. She may believe he’s nothing like his brother, but that doesn’t mean she believes he’s a good guy. In fact, she knows he’s a bad boy. But this angel finds that she is attracted to the bad boy.

Marna went from a sweet angel to a strong kickass heroine. When she can’t figure out why her death touch doesn’t work, and why her wings are so sensitive (even though they aren’t there anymore), she and Tanner try to figure everything out. They go see Sam and Selina, and Bastion (who surprised me in this story) turns up.

Cynthia Eden writes amazing Romantic Suspense and when she adds in the Paranormal, watch out! You won’t want to put this book down.

"He needed her to understand. In this world, she was the one thing he wanted.
The one thing that he’d kill to keep."
-Tanner

This book was I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E.It kept me up awake alomost all night but it was definitely woth it.

Avenging Angel tells the story of Tanner and Marna, characters that we previously saw at Angel in Chains. After brutally losing her wings, Marna realises that the touch, that every death angel possesses even when they fall, doesn't work for her. What she doesn't realise is that she is being "stalked" by a very determined shifter.

Meet Tanner.Tanner despite not having had an easy life, he tries to make it up to her. They all think that he's just a killer, an animal without qualms. But this cannot be further than the truth.Marna makes him want to be better. She brings out the best of him.Tanner is the kind of man who will do anything to protect what he treasures the most. He's very alpha in nature and intense in anything he does.Above all, though, he's a man who just found his mate.

Marna isn't your average angel. She may have never liked her "job" but she never wanted to be bound to earth, unable to ever reach heaven again. She is a fighter though.Marna is a strong character because despite eveything that she went through, she still strives to make something of this life she was forced to live. All she wants is to eliminate the threat and find her happily ever after with the man she loves above anything else.Even heaven can't keep them apart...

Cynthia Eden is a wonderful author and I can't say how much I love and admire her works. This book is bound to astonish you.Be prepared. There are many twist and turns, so nothing goes as we expect them to go and the danger is there, threatening to destroy them all.

Furthermore, the secondary characters were great as well.We get to see Sam and Seline, I loved each and every scene they were present.Bastion, a death angel, was also one who made many appearances along with Kody, Tanner's brother.Hope they both get their own story, especially Bastion since the last time we saw him, he dropped a bombshell.

To sum up, although I just finished the book all I want to do is re-read it.I absolutely recommend it, even if you haven't read the previous books (which I think you should).I can't wait to read the next book in the series and while we wait for it let me just say that in the end of the book there's a sneak peek of what Cynthia is working right now on, Burn For Me , Book One in the new Phoenix Shifter series, coming in February 2014!I Wish I could time travel into the future....

But until then, here's a little teaser:

He was getting his princess. She’d get her beast. The rest of the world could go and screw off.

Make sure your world gets the end of that message when you pick Avenging Angel up. You will not want to put this book down one you start. My fellow review ninja Gaele suggested I should mention that you will also want to read this one with some tissues close by. I suggest finding a day without interruptions, quiet and alone, then devour this sexy angel and shifter treat in one sitting.

Tanner to Marna “That was me being fucking starving for you.”

Oh Tanner, you sexy man. His caring devotion and passionate want of Marna is a romance that everyone should experience. The fact that Marna is new to human emotions, wants, and desires leaves me baffled how she did not overdose on Tanner. The man has such a strong presence. He is the epitome of alpha male that will do anything for the woman that he has claimed as his. He expresses his need of Marna in a way that never lets her (or us readers) question his desires for her. Tanner is a man with a horrific past. He and his brother Cody made it through a childhood that lesser men would never have made it out of. Through his evil brothers Brandt’s vicious actions he is given the opportunity to know a woman like no other.

Tanner to Marna “If I have much more of you I won’t ever let you go.”

And she would be crazy to let this man let her go! This is a suspenseful romance and nothing goes according to plan for our hero and his heroine. They have many struggles to get to their happily ever after. The main one is that someone is out to get Marna. Tanner uses his resources as a cop and the born shifter abilities and instincts to protect her at all costs. Marna is a tough gal though. She has survived the brutal assault that left her without her wings. She has persevered in a world that she was never meant to live in. She’s a survivor. Now she given the chance at a life with a man that loves her above all else and someone is trying to mess it all up… not ever going to happen.

Avenging Angel is an intense thrill ride from the very beginning to the tear jerking end. This is my absolute favorite book in Eden’s The Fallen series. It may very well be my favorite book of hers all together.

The secondary characters were amazing! I hope that we get see more of Cody and Riley in future books. I loved what they had to contribute to this story. Readers are also treated to some Sammael. The Fallen is there protecting what he views as his and dishing out some round about romance advice. I am excited that we will see more of this series. I cannot wait to see how the next Fallen reacts to this world as a former angel.

Both Marna and Tanner appeared in the previous book. Marna is a Death Angel who lost her wings after Tanner's older brother brutally slashed them away. Now, earthbound, she also loses her power. Tanner Chance is a shifter who is determined to keep the powerless angel safe -- especially that all supernatural beings are now gunning for her.

This is definitely my second favorite story in the series, after Angel Betrayed (Sam's story). One of the reasons why I love it, is because both Marna and Tanner work together to find the villain. There is no self-martyrdom or "I will take care of everything" syndrome that has become one of the most common tropes in this genre.

While Marna doesn't trust Tanner at first, but she quickly learns that Tanner will not hurt her. I love the fact that their combined resources make them better (

I love Marna's determination not to be an easy victim. Tanner's Alpha-protective-behavior might annoy me sometimes, but I can forgive him because he lets Marna have her fight too - and that he admits he is jealous.

The main villain is too easy too guess, though. I deduce the identity from the very beginning. The clues are just too blatant, no red herring here. However, I like the 'twist' of having another type of angel other than Death and Guardian. Hey, maybe next time, one of the Fallen could be a punishment angel...

Secondary characters rock! I love Cody (Tanner's half-demon, half-shifter brother) who also appeared in book #2. Also Riley, the vampire. If only Cynthia Eden writes M/M, because I'm imagining all sort of scenarios between Cody and Riley *grin*. I also love that Sam (my favorite character) makes an appearance. I love him!

I think next story might be Bastion's. Again, one of the things I enjoy about this series is that the hero is not always "nice" or the "good guy". Like Azrael, who is a pain in the a** enemy during Sam's book. And Bastion here, he surely not playing nice too. His crush to Marna is bordering crazy. I wonder who will be the woman for her...

Self-Note: Dislike the endearment (yep, those hated "baby's"). I needed to change them to enjoy it; thus the shelf.

Her wings cut off by the claws of a twisted shifter, Angel Marna finds herself unable to go home (Heaven), trapped on earth she is now infused with emotions and desires she's never felt before. On top of that someone is wearing her face as they kill, putting her in the crosshairs of the police something that is anything but good news. Shifter Tanner Chance comes from a family of monsters, and is determined to be nothing like them even as he fears it may be too late. Determined to protect Marna, he finds himself unable to keep away from the Angel who has burrowed her way into his skin and heart.

I liked both MCs and want to read more books in the series.

Can be read comfortably as a standalone.

A enjoyable read although it didn't ensnare my attention like I hoped. That being said I'll likely re-read at some point.

Cynthia Eden's "Fallen" series has been a true delight! Readers were previously introduced to Tanner and Marla, and they certainly merited their own story. The author has done a wonderful job of adding backstory for several characters as well as broadening the already stellar world-building. And the emotion!!! Tanner is the ultimate alpha male: unabashed about what he wants, direct in his statements, and loving enough to sacrifice everything for the loved one (sigh!). Marla SO belongs with him, and their romance may well be my favorite!

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: Dark, dangerous world that I instantly got sucked into. Characters that are a little too stubborn for their own good. Not my favorite of the series but still a great read.

Opening Sentence: Marna awoke to pain.

The Review:

Avenging Angel is the fourth novel in The Fallen series by Cynthia Eden. She writes such wonderful paranormal romance in which I immediately just fall into her worlds. (I haven’t read any of her non-paranormals at this time.) I love this dark, dangerous yet spiritual world and would love to see more works in this series so I was really excited to see it was a spinoff or at least linked to her Night Watch series. I will definitely have to pick up some copies.

Avenging Angel would at least benefit from having read the other novel in The Fallen series but it really isn’t necessary. Marna and Tanner’s story begin in Angel in Chains and the results of that story are what put them together in Avenging Angel. Marna was a Death Angel but she has since suffered a terrible loss that has forced her to be stuck on earth. Tanner is the sexy, panther shifter who found her and nursed her back to life. He feels responsible for Marna’s predicament and takes it upon himself to keep her safe.

This book starts off with a bang when Tanner confronts Marna with killing a couple of shifters. He is pretty sure she didn’t do it but the police are hot on her trail and he needs to keep her out of jail because angels just don’t do that well in jail. Unfortunately, Marna gets dragged down to the police station anyways and the only way out is to fake her death so she can find out who is setting her up for murder.

Tanner uses his status as a police detective to outwit the law that is after Marna. It doesn’t take long for Tanner to also be targeted by the unknown assailant that is after Marna. Tanner and Marna get a terrible lesson in how bad the supernatural underworld can be when supernaturals get a taste of angel blood so now Marna has a lot more people gunning for her. Tanner doesn’t quite realize that Marna has been having some Angel of Death power problems but when he does they work as hard as they can to figure out how to get those powers back.

Marna is a Death Angel that always had a wariness about her job. She collected souls out of duty only because she didn’t want to fall. She is very sweet but once she is stuck on the earthly plane it doesn’t take her long to grow a backbone. She does try to take revenge on those who hurt her but she feels a bit of remorse. As an angel, Marna has studied humans and she knows what can lead to their downfall but once she acquires a taste for human pleasure, she has no problem indulging in that vice.

Tanner is tough and mean shapeshifter. He only cares for his brother Cody and Marna. Otherwise he really isn’t too friendly. Most of Tanner’s time is taken up by the fact that he doesn’t want to turn out like his father, a murdering psychopath, so he tries to help the humans by being a cop, but also by helping hide supernaturals from being found out by the rest of the world. I felt that Tanner was a little too macho abrasive at times. I thought he was sexy but a little too over the top.

In the end, I had no problem getting sucked into this dark and dangerous world. I would still like to see some of the characters in this series get their own stories. I really did enjoy the supernatural set up with the Angels, Shifters and Demons.

Notable Scene:

“Run,” Marna told the demon. The women’s green eyes had faded to black. “This is your only chance.” She was trying to give her a fair warning.

Instead of heeding that warning, Jillian fired on her.

The bullet never hit.

Because in that same instant, Marna lifted her hands and sent out a wall of fire. The fire circled her and Tanner, closing them in—but keeping the others out. The fire raged so hot that the bullet melted, vanishing in the inferno.

Power, pulsing heat, poured from Marna. “I’m not weak!” she screamed. Too many thought of her that way. All the supernaturals who wanted to cut her open and drain her dry. Even all the angels upstairs, the ones who used to whisper about her. The ones who’d thought she wasn’t strong enough to do the job of a death angel.

FTC Advisory: Kensington Brava provided me with a copy of Avenging Angel. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Quite the interesting tale this one had the whole lot of the paranormal world. Angels (Fallen or not), Shifters, Vampires, Demons, Hybrids. You name it, they were all there. The background was overflowing yet somehow managed to make sense and have all the paranormal world in some order.

The story was enticing as well. Marna is an Angel of Death who gets caught while harvesting souls in the middle of a battle and loses her wings, or should I say a shifter severs them from her body. Although not her choice to fall she is trapped on earth, no longer able to return back to Heaven. Earthbound and with no powers, having lost her wings she lost the protection those gave her from the human emotions, she now is attacked by more than she ever thought possible. Humans (cops) chasing her for murder, paranormal creatures chasing her for her blood, emotions chasing her in every corner with pain among them taking lead, and a very bass-ass panther shifter chasing her to… keep an eye on her? Nothing makes sense on this new world for an Angel that had no intention to stay on Earth or leave her Heaven. Least of all lust for one man she should not feel anything but rage for.

So this is how we witness the start of an epic love between an angel and a beast. I loved Tanner and Marna as a couple. They start with mistrust, fear and anger, and slowly move to a kind of relationship that is ruled by passion and the most intense emotions I’ve recently read on a book when it comes down to intimacy. Their love has always that hint of despair that never lets it settle. It’s not the “I love you tender” type and that makes it incredible to experience. Tanner’s panther is so wild that everything he does or touch gets wild with him. As I said I loved it.

The conspiracy that makes for the action plot was a bit too much for me though. It was good when it started, there was a lot of mystery, a load of suspense too, but the constant twists and the never ending attacks, the never ending enemies simply got tiresome toward the end. At some point I was thinking when exactly this whole ordeal is going to be over, or when enough is just that, enough. When the ultimate villain was revealed I was left wondering, so many questions rose from that revelation which were not answered. I felt cheated the explanation of the villains nature, the logistics of his deception, the how’s and the why’s. In the end I felt as if the whole round and round in circles of the action plot had no purpose other than to make our couple stronger for the fire-cracking end that would make their love enter the epic level.

So bottom end I liked this story. It was different and it was intense and the love story – while too much – was fascinating mostly due to Tanner. I’d recommend this to all lovers of paranormal creatures and the ever-lasting concept of “love conquers all”.

Mine might be unpopular opinion but I think that Avenging Angel is the weakest book in the awesome series, The Fallen. 2nd to the first book, tho. The reason is, Marna seems off to me and Tanner is too alpha with all that growling, sulking, brooding, and snapping to everyone. I'm tired with his constantly "I'm my father's son". I know Tanner, I get it, no need to said it over and over, tho. Marna herself...why I said she seems off because once she look helpless, then kickin' ass. Her development seems a little bit forced for my taste. What good in Tanner and Marna relationship is, not like the other pairing, they already know each other and no insta-lust, or sex in inapproriate time.

The suspense is great like usual, a thing that make Ms Eden shine because she know damn well how to write a hell of a ride read and full of mystery. The culprit that mimic Marna's face to kill another supernatural kinda shocking but I can see it coming. Anyway, in the other side, the action make me a little bit tired because sometimes I want Tanner and Marna have a calm moment, yet they bombarded with so many problem. The end also, sadly not much improvement from the last book, which is..of course very deus ex machina. But eh, what PNR that don't have those plot nowadays?

I love that Sammael and Selina make appearance. Sam still badass, cocky and don't give a damn. Maybe that's why I can't connect to Tanner, because he's not laidback like Sam, and even he can be categorized into anti hero, Tanner lack motive and can be too hot headed. Sadly no Azrael, and even no Keenan. I wonder if Bastion will get his own story, but Cynthia Eden once said there will be no more Fallen book :(

For the final book of the Fallen series, Avenging Angel wrapped the series nicely, even there are some question that left unanswered and a possibility to explore the world of the Fallen. Fans of full action packed PNR will love Avenging Angel.

Really glad I hung on and went the distance with this series. Books one and two were good but more action than romance. I was worried about these books put out by a big publisher, I know they stymie the authors. You can tell, when their "mass publisher" books are toned down from their independent books. So books one and two, good but not as intense in the romance department. Books three and four nice balance and characters I really like.

Marna, a death angel was mutilated in the last book by Tanner's (a cop) 1/2 brother Brandt who slashed her wings from her body and left her for dead. His other 1/2 brother Cody stitched her up and since then she's been earthbound seemingly without her Angelic powers.

When someone with Marna's face takes out two panther shifters from Brandt's old pack and now the cops are after her. Once Marna tells Tanner she didn't do it he knows someone is setting her up because Angel's can't lie. Soon they are on the run and not sure who to trust and wondering if more than one enemy is after them.

The secondary characters were all intriguing, Cody, Riley, Bastian. We also get to see Sam and Selene. Sam is still his ambiguous all-knowing self. I have to say, it got a little annoying the way he would withhold knowledge at times.

The story works well and Tanner and Marna are great together. Cynthia Eden always writes sexy, intimate and tender love scenes that leave you heartmelted and overheated at the same time. I love the dialogue between the main characters. She manages to convey a lot of tenderness in just a few words.

I found it very hard to get into this one. Both of the main characters kind of rubbed me the wrong way right from the start...our heroine was some bad-ass wanna-be that just failed miserably every time she tried to accomplish something because she didn't have the skills to match her bravado, our hero came of as an obnoxious and arrogant jerk bag half the time and a self-conceited airhead the other half of the time. Just weren't a good match. A little more back drop might've also helped instead of just dropping me into what was happening between them, Tanner was kind of a possessive creeper right away.
Supporting characters were also mostly bland and somewhat underdeveloped. The re-introductions of characters from others books were about my only favorite parts.
Villan was creepy and unpredictable, I enjoyed how it was difficult from to get a bead on him until the very end. I thought for sure it was Bastion. He completely flew under my radar of suspicion so kudos for that Mrs Eden.
The plot line was mostly cliche with very little adrenaline and surprise happening throughout. Climax of the story was good and despite my dislike for the characters the ending was still cute and "awe" worthy.
Overall; Was my least favorite so far of this series. I didn't hate it enough to discontinue reading the series as a whole but wasn't impressed or entertained by this installment. A very low-scale, predictable and chemistry lacking story.

4 STARS! If you're looking for a book that will take you away from the real world for a spell, dive into Tanner and Marna's story.

Marna is an angel trapped on earth, not because she chose to fall, but because a shifter clawed off her wings! Brutal. Tanner saves her life, but will never let himself off the hook since her attacker was his brother! He vows to keep his beautiful, innocent angel safe. She vows to keep herself safe (with a touch of blood vengeance). Not your typical sweet angel that Marna girl. The two do not get what they aim for when some supernatural bad guy uses Marna's image and commits murder. Did I mention Tanner is a cop? So he arrests her. She's pissed. He's pissed (because he's always a bit angry). Quickly, the two find themselves tangled in a mystery they must solve and a shared desire that has no end in sight. Good stuff.

I loved returning to straight up paranormal romance. There were a few twists I didn't see coming. The romance wasn't a surprise, but Marna is a with it woman and I loved her curiosity and honesty.

I’m trying so hard to stay away from virgin heroines books but somehow they keep finding me, in all fairness I didn’t even read the reviews for this book. I saw this series on sale and quickly grabbed them. I did ended up enjoying this one.

Anywho... I wasn’t sure if was going to like the heroine, she was a bit weak when I started this book. But she grew on me and she also grew stronger, she even became a bit of bad ass. Not like Valerie Storm badass, well you get my point... I even forgot she was a virgin... nah I didn’t.

There’s almost nothing on hero’s sexual past life.
I liked that there was little to no information about this. I don’t like to hear how the heroes sleep around, about his sexcapes. Nope, nothing put me off a book more than to read about a manwhore.

Safe.

I like this series but one thing that irks me is that the characters fall so much in love and are so enthralled with each other that they can't give a damn about anyone else, even family. In this book it was Tanners brother that's constantly left behind because poor Marna needs a white knight or Tanner loves her soooooo much, blah. Don't get me wrong, I do like the book but that just gets on my nerves. You can be in love but still aware of what's going on around you outside your partner.

I thought this one was just ok. I felt like Tanner should have realized some things sooner than he did, instead it seemed like everyone around him was taking advantage of him. I did like the things that Tanner learned about himself and his family. I also loved what Tanner was able to give Marna towards the end as well as the choice that Marna made at the end and her words to Tanner.

I love Cynthia Eden's books! This series is so amazing and it is full of action. I adored Tanner and was really glad he finally got his book. It's impossible to decide which book has been my favourite as they are all so good! Really hope there are more books in this series as Bastian seemed to be falling next.

When Tanner showed up at the bar and encountered his first Angel, he knew he was in trouble. Beautiful lost & more than a little dangerous, Marna is a study in contradiction. As a fallen Death Angel, Marna struggles to keep her identity a secret while at the same time frightened that she may end up hurting someone. Her touch is deadly after all. Tanner needs to question her because someone’s been killing people, and the subject is her spitting image. But things take a turn when Marna denies the charges and, as an angel (even a fallen one) she is incapable of lying.

So now, Tanner has himself a problem. He needs to figure out who is killing werewolves while at the same time, keeping Marna safe. Something about the girl sparks a protective instinct in him that he’s never felt. And the number of enemies or people looking to harvest her blood is actually driving him crazy.

A simple plotline, nothing much of this book is really anything to write home about. Was it a good book? Yes. Was it kinda of repeatitive? You betcha. I did kind of drift at times because everything was soo predictable but again, it wasn’t bad. I wanted more vulnerabilities from Marna as a character. A very powerful creature who obviously has a lot of trauma, Marna had the potential to be a very interesting character but she was pushed to the side in favour of Tanner and his story. I didn’t mind Tanner but again, there wasn’t much about him that made him stand out comparative to all the books I’ve read and any male leads this author has written about.
Overall, not a bad book but it was lacking sparks.

My review goes like this: it was a great book but not a 5 star rating. Let me explain.

So you have the main characters: a hot shifter cop named Tanner and then this badass angel that he falls in love with named Marna. Now, Marna is an angel that had her wings cut off. So there is someone out there who is taking shape of the two and killing people so they can die by the paranormal world and end up in Hell. There's lots of steamy sexual activity and there's the characters that play important roles that you need to read to find out who they are.

Here's my dilemma: To me it felt like there were to many shifters and demon and angels in this town and not enough humans. Everyone that plays a role in the book was somethin but human and I feel like there should have been a human somewhere in this book. Like maybe a comic relief because then they wouldn't understand anything going on which would be funny to me.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutly. Heck, if you wanna try to be turned on and get some action that night, read this book and maybe you will have a great time in bed. You never know.

EARTHLY DELIGHTS

With a messed up family background and a tendency to grow claws and fangs, Tanner Chance isn’t exactly the boy next door. But he’s a decent cop, and he keeps himself on the side of the good guys. Convenient, because when he rescues a survivor of a horrific shifter attack he finds himself instantly smitten—with an honest-to-goodness angel, as innocent as she is irresistible.

Marna may be angelic, but she’s not stupid or weak. She can take care of herself. Tanner is more temptation than protection anyway. Or so she thinks, until someone wearing her face starts taking out some of New Orleans’ more unsavory paranormals. With police and predators both gunning for her blood, Marna has no choice but to trust Tanner…even though what’s sparking between them is hotter than anything holy.

I have read and enjoyed all of Eden’s Fallen series. I was lucky enough to review two of the previous installments, Angel of Darkness and Angel in Chains so I was eager to pick up this fourth installment. Eden has created a huge world that she continues to flesh out with each series and each story that shares this world. Not only does she expand the world but she also increases what is at stake for the supernaturals. Most of them were trying to live undiscovered by humans but that was becoming more difficult as word of new highly addictive drugs specifically for the supernaturals spread. Living hidden also became more complicated because of some messy power grabs by a few supernaturals that resulted in an increase of fatal confrontations. Because Avenging Angel takes place immediately following the events of Angel in Chains this review will contain some spoilers for previous books.

Marna was a Death Angel who really didn’t like her job but she continued to work as directed. During one of her soul retrieval trips she was attacked by a powerful rogue shifter who cut off her wings so he could both produce Angel Dust and eventually have his own pet angel. She was rescued and doctored by two of his sons but was told that since she lost her wings she was considered Fallen. Typically to become one of The Fallen, the angel breaks the rules and literally falls from heaven with his wings burning off. They land on earth with a scarred back, patch memory, no power and are a target for anything stronger then they are. As discovered in previous installments, if they survived long enough they regained both but their wings and therefore heaven were forever lost to them. The implication was that provided you didn’t break any egregious rules you would never fall but Marna’s situation showed that things were continuing to change for the angels and their status amongst the supernaturals. I loved watching Marnie turn from someone who was motivated by hatred, anger, and focused on regaining her power so she could make those who ruined her life pay into someone who once again cared, trusted, and could protect herself from just about any threat. She went from being considered delicate, weak, and in need of sheltering to a force of her own.

Poor Tanner, talk about coming from a seriously messed up family. His father was a sociopath who deliberately took and abused women who had power so he could control them and their children as he tried to dominate supernatural society through fear. Tanner took the exact opposite path and tried to protect the weaker and innocent by becoming a police officer. He rescued Marna and did his best to watch over her from a distance as she recovered from the attack. Unfortunately, when they met again, he had to arrest her for two vicious murders because of very vivid eye-witness descriptions. Tanner’s drive as a protector meant that he also became a target for whomever or whatever was trying to frame Marna. Tanner kept finding himself in situations when he had to make a choice to trust someone or when someone tried to make him choose who he would protect. I felt for the internal torment he must have experienced each time because regardless of his choice it would tear him apart because it went against his nature.

I enjoyed Tanner and Marna’s interaction together as well as how they pulled in other characters from previous installments and some new ones. Eden is able to give equal attention to world-building and character growth which is one of the reasons why I will read just about anything she writes. She is also able to keep the action moving without confusing the reader with the various moving pieces. In this particular case she provided two different but equally compelling views as Marna and Tanner tried to survive supernatural politics. Tanner’s character transition was more of learning who he could and could not trust. To me in a way given his past history this was a very cruel lesson to relearn but watching him keep his internal essence just made me admire him even more. I thought Marna’s journey was probably the most drastic of all of The Fallen because she didn’t fall as a result of breaking angelic law but lost her wings while surviving a vicious attack. She went from relative innocence and a feeling of invulnerability to the exact opposite and had to find her way back to some sort of equilibrium.

Eden once again provided a very satisfying read that tied up threads of this particular couple but she added a few others that really have me wondering how much more can this world take before it all implodes. The increasing numbers of Fallen angels are making me wonder if they are just a symptom of something bigger. That tied with the increasing vulnerability and targeted attacks once they are Fallen also make me wonder about the underlying cause. Like always I look forward to seeing what Eden releases next and how she continues to expand her world.

I give Avenging Angel a B+

Marna is a death angel but when she was coming to escort a soul, a shifter sliced her wings off. Marna was really too soft to be a death angel. Tanner is a cop and panther shifter who, along with his brother, take care of Marna until she’s healed. Once she’s better, her rage has her going after the rest of the pack that made her lose her wings. Tanner has to arrest Marna when witnesses put her at the scene of two shifter’s deaths. Someone is impersonating Tanner and Marna so now the whole police department and the paranormals in the city are after them. The police want to arrest them and the paranormals want Marna’s blood. Even though it was Tanner’s brother that sliced her wings off, Marna trusts Tanner with her life. Can they find the person who is setting them up before it’s too late?

This is my favorite one! You’ve got angels, vampires, and shifters. Sex. A real “ who done it?”. I was shocked at the end. Be prepared to read it all in one sitting.
