About the author

Margit Sandemo was a Norwegian-Swedish historical fantasy author. She has been the best-selling author in the Nordic Countries since the 1980s, when her novel series of 47 books, The Legend of the Ice People, was published. She has also written many other book series such as Häxmästaren and Legenden om Ljusets rike.

Ten tom skupia się na trójce rodzeństwa - Mari, Jonnathanie i Karine. Karine Volden jako mała dziewczynka została dwukrotnie zgwałcona. Co jest oczywistym, odbiło się to na jej życiu. Kiedy wybuchła II wojna światowa, kobieta została po raz trzeci zaatakowana i tym razem nie patyczkowała się z gwałcicielem. Jonnathan został zesłany do obozu koncentracyjnego w Niemczech. Co się tam działo nie trzeba nikomu przytaczać. Mari to chyba najlżejszy wątek, który ma być taką przeciwwagą do dwóch pozostałych wątków.

Czuję się trochę zniesmaczona. Czuję niesmak, kiedy taka powiastka osadzona jest w czasach II wojny światowej. Mam wrażenie, że autorka nie zadbała o balans i podeszła do tego tematu zbyt lekko. W dodatku dosadziła tam magię (stwierdzając między innymi, że na wybuch wojny miał wpływ Tengel Zły), a cała tragedia, która się w tym czasie wydarzyła została spłaszczona, zbagatelizowana, a brutalność wojenna sprowadzona na margines. Ważniejsze było poprowadzenie wątku (w tym romantycznego) Karine, żeby sobie ułożyła życie po jej prywatnym dramacie, a w tle ginęło miliony ludzi.

Są książki, które pomimo osadzenia w tych brutalnych czasach są w stanie jeszcze zbalansować wszystko na tyle, że jest to strawne. Tutaj autorka moim zdaniem nie podołała.

Quite interesting tale about Norway during the German occupation, and also a little about what happened on the continent (concentration camps etc.). I suppose we Swedes cannot fully understand how awful this time was for the Norwegians, with partisans on one side and quislings on the other, the constant fear of not only the Germans but of their own, not to know who you could trust etc.. I miss one thing in this novel though: there is nothing about the "tysketöserna" (Norwegian women who volontarily had sexual relations with the German officers and soldiers) and the "tyskungarna" (the children who were born out of these unholy unions). As Sandemo writes mostly about and for women, it is a little odd that she chose to not mention these particular Nowegian women of this time with one word...

Czuję dość duży dysonans, kiedy myślę o tym tomie Sagi o Ludziach Lodu. Z jednej strony całkiem mi się podobał i na pewno nie nazwę go najgorszym. Z drugiej mam wrażenie, że wątek wojenny został potraktowany po macoszemu. Oczywiście sama wojna nie jest tu najważniejsza, ale mimo wszystko opisy okupacji czy życia obozowego mogłoby być po prostu bardziej dopracowane. Niemniej, nie był to jak już pisałam najgorszy tom, choć były w nim fragmenty, które po prostu ciężko się czytało.

Sandemo ma tendencję do opisywania, jak niektórym z jej bohaterek, eufemizując, dzieje się krzywda (kto czytał, ten wie o czym piszę) i o ile tym razem te opisy były... Nie chcę powiedzieć "lepsze" bo to słowo tu nie pasuje, ale z pewnością o wiele bardziej dostosowane do sytuacji niż w przypadku Tuli, która miała podobny wątek.

This time the book took place during WW II. It focused on Mari, Karine and Joachim.

A girl who easily fell in love and let the boys take advantage of her. A girl who was raped twice during her childhood. And a guy who was a part of rebellion against nazi Germany.

Not a bad read, although the part with tengel was very very lame. It's disappointing how evil can't prevail.

Izgalmas, hogy MS a világháborúkat is belekeveri a szereplőink életébe, tényleg történelmi sorozatot kreált a JN-ből.
Jonathan és Karine sorsa is érdekes, és tetszett, hogy nem nyomja le a torkunkon, hogy Gonosz Tengel egyenesen Hitlert szállta meg, az túl sok lett volna :)

Było w sumie spoko. Chyba jedyna część w realiach II Wojny Światowej i rozgrywająca się częściowo w obozie koncentracyjnym, ale opisy były w wersji light. Ciekawiło mnie jak autorka ugryzie wojnę. Główną postacią jest Jonathan działający w ruchu oporu i jego siostra Karine.

Det här var en mycket bra bok. En av de bästa av Margit Sandemo.

Ibland är livet ett enda stort sammanträffande. Jag hade just föreläst om våldtäkt och sedan blivit intervjuad i tidningen om det, sedan börjar jag lyssna på den här boken, där det utspelar sig många våldtäkter.

Däremot tror jag inte det är därför som jag tyckte så mycket om boken, som utspelar sig under andra världskriget. Det jag tycker om är skildringarna av kriget, både i Norge och Europa. Hur Margit Sandemo väver in riktiga historiska personer som får ta del av berättelsen om Isfolket.

Den här gången får vi följa familjen Volden, speciellt syskonen Karin och Jonathan Volden, när deras livsöden vävs samman. Den onde Tengel har vaknat upp och tagit plats i en fysisk person. Isfolket hittar inga spår efter honom, och anar att han är på väg mot Norge för att hämnas. Därför skickar familjen Volden iväg sina barn. Något som de grymt kommer att ångra, eftersom barnen där råkar mer illa ut än vad de hade gjort om de hade befunnit sig hemma.

Som liten flicka blev Karin Volden brutalt våldtagen vid två tillfällen. Även om hon till viss del lyckades glömma de grymma upplevelserna, blev hon med tiden alltmer sluten och rädd för kontakt med andra människor. Under kriget blev hon utsatt för ett nytt övergrepp, och då blev det en våldsam reaktion. Speciellt som brodern Jonathan råkar riktigt illa ut som följd till det som hänt Karin.

En mycket spännande bok. Tyvärr finns den inte hos någon av internetbutikerna, utan bara att lyssna på hos Storytel. Hoppas du gör det, för boken var mycket bra.

Small Men Throw Long Shadows
Karine Volden as little girl was raped twice. Despite removing nightmare things from memory she was closing more and more in herself and was afraid to contact with other people. During the war Karine was attacked and her reaction was very rapid. The girl blamed herself for that her brother Jonathan was send to concentration camp in Germany.
