Are you wading along the shore, safe and secure but longing for an adventure that quickens your heart, sharpens your mind, and shakes your comfort zone to the core? Are you afraid to go "all in" for God, not wanting to let go of something holding you back? Do you fear you are too old or too young, too poor, broken, or weak, too busy, too inadequate, too "something," to take a risk for the sake of the cross? This is one of the most entertaining and heart felt autobiographies I have read. Lowell is a rare breed. He's a fantastically talented actor, singer, magician, ventriloquist and maverick who would only use these amazing gifts for the purposes of spreading the gospel. The audible version is his own narration and is unlike anything I've ever heard. Read this. You'll be both amazed and inspired.
I could hardly put this book down. we met the author at the Titanic museum on Pigeon forge. After hearing his testimony I knew it was a book I had to read. I was not disappointed. pick this up to see just how God can use our lives to make an external difference in his kingdom.
This was a great book!Lowell Lytle intertwines his earlier years with his later years and it turns out that he has lived and is still living out one fascinating life.
This is a straightforward account of one man's not-so-straightforward lifetime adventures--ranging from learning to be a ventriloquist as a young man to initiating several unique ministries (using rock bands and drive-in movie theatres) to building tall ships to being the oldest person ever to dive to the Titanic wreck site. I met Lowell Lytle while visiting the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, TN, where he portrays Captain EJ Smith. His portrayal of Smith allows him to share just a snippet of the interesting person he (Lowell) is, and so I purchased his autobiography in the museum shop unsure of what to expect. What I discovered was the life story of a man God has used mightily in an amazing variety of ways. His story is certainly not boring, and, in some ways, it is journey both to a bygone era of American culture and to the depths of the Northern Atlantic.
I met the author of this book while at the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, TN. He actually let my son hold a piece of the Titanic from a dive he was a part of to collect artifacts from the sunken ship. When he mentioned that he wrote a book about his adventures, I quickly made my way to the gift shop to purchase it. I was delighted to find that it was signed by him as well!!
This book was about more than Lowell's Titanic adventures. It is an autobiography of his life, which is far more adventurous than pretty much anyone I know. His stories are captivating and his life was and is so different from most. I really enjoyed learning about his life and I appreciate him sharing it with the world in this way.
I was expecting a story about how a man got the job of playing Captain Smith, of Titanic fame. I got that but much, much more. Lytle has done more in one lifetime than some groups have done in their assorted lives. He traces the hand of God with him all the way from the bottom of the sea at the wreck of the Titanic to the top of the mast of the Santa Maria. Yep, you read that correctly. He is honest with his own foibles and gives credit where credit is due. Really enjoyed the narrative and wish the author, now in his 80s, many more years in his journey.
Met this great man at the Pigeon Forge Titanic Museum. Such a great story teller. This book is a complete joy to read. Filled with hope and inspiration, it will lead you down the road of faith.
"Diving Into the Deep" is an inspiring and overall enjoyable book. I remember meeting the man that wrote this book (Lowell Lytle). I met him while I was visiting Kentucky (Titanic Museum, he was playing Captain Smith). The book is a well written read, I myself fond it the only thing I did in my free time. The book is written with a nice balance, facts about the Titanic expedition, the author's biography mixed in, and all other aspect of the book tie in seamlessly.
I picked to read this book because it "spoke" to me. After meeting the man behind the book, I got a copy and began to read it. Glad I did.
I knew the book would discuss spirituality, but it was more about that than related to the Titanic, so I quickly lost interest. Especially after the “quirky” family stories were told. A mother throwing rocks at her child, a father hitting his children, and a blackface Halloween costume are framed as “hilarious” memories….
