Mythic’s newest citizen, Dr. Ana McKinnon, has a secret.
No one knows; not even the Werewolf pack that has taken her under their protection. When Ana unexpectedly receives invitation to Mythic’s most prestigious event, a masquerade ball hosted by the reclusive Vlane Masterson, she doesn’t want to go. She only accepts when she realizes that not going will draw more unwanted attention to herself than going.
It’s a good plan. At least until the master vampire himself finds her alone and decides to sample the goods.
Vlane Masterson awakens the morning after his annual soirée to find that something changed him, utterly. The vampires are understandably concerned; anything that can render such a powerful being vulnerable can upset the delicate balance of power and fragile alliances between the various preternatural, extraordinary creatures that call Mythic home.
The last thing he remembers is partaking of a particularly lovely creature dressed as a legendary Faerie. But who is she? And why can’t he stop thinking about her? Where could she be … his mysterious Faerie?

…and I know I’ll be getting that one day hopefully in the future. See, that’s the beauty of a series. The only problem is that I don’t know what I’ll be getting. Will it be a continuation of this story? Will it be a new couple and we’ll hopefully get snippets of what’s going on in the life of this couple? We didn’t even get to see the couple together that long. I didn’t feel the connection enough to believe they were destined for each other. I’m told they’re fated mates, but I needed to see it. To be honest, I felt more of a connection between the heroine and the Alpha of the pack she lives in. I just felt that the ending was too quick, too cut and dry, too easy. The author could have taken it so much further, but just left us with a paragraph explaining what should have been the climatic and epic battle. The bonding…joining…forming…mating…whatever you want to call it was over and done with so quickly that it was a blink and you’ll miss it. I just wanted more.
I know that all sounds a bit harsh but I like my paranormal to be intense with strong emotions - uncontrollable need, reaction and urgency. I like my vampires to be possessive and lash out when their heroine is in jeopardy. I want to see the battles between the vampires and the werewolves. I want to see them lose their minds when they’re not getting their way. I want to see them lose control and unleash their beasts when their emotions are too high. I just wanted more.
Now, it’s not all doom and gloom. I actually liked all of the characters I met. I want them all to find their true mates and happy ever afters. Matt, Dani and the other werewolves have the potential to give us some good laughs mixed with some very sexy shenanigans. I’m dying to see the vampire Kristoff having to limit himself to one-on-one action in the bedroom. Will Armand’s mate be intrigued ? I really want to know more about Karthik, the demon lord. Is he as vicious as they say? The author has created some very, very interesting characters.
In the end, I liked the storyline and the characters but felt that it could have been so much more. If Abbie Zanders was to dig a little deeper, pull out the guts of her characters and serve them up to me warts and all, I definitely want to go on with the series.

I loved Zanders' Callahan series so had high hopes for this, but it didn't work for me. It must be a case of it's not you, it's me because the other high ratings say so. I felt no connection to either character, didn't believe in their connection, not that I saw much of one, and up until 58% through the book they had not even had a conversation which is a weird experience whilst reading the paranormal genre. In fact, I was confused at first because I thought Matt was the hero, not Vlane, as Matt played a huge part in the first half of the book!! For true mates they spent virtually all the book apart?!? 😕 Vlane definitely isn't the hot, bossy master vampire I expected him to be, he was a bit of a wet actually. Matt was the hot, bossy alpha and the poor bloke lost the girl! Yeah, that totally didn't work for me, I was Team Matt from the get-go.
Way way way too much inner monologue and telling and nowhere near enough showing made this a fail. There was little to no romance, no hot sweaty sex that you expect to find in this genre - the couple of scenes they had when they eventually got it on after the 90% mark was so glossed over I blinked and it was done.
I'm rather disappointed as the bones and idea of the story is brilliant but it just didn't pan out. The mix of vampires, weres, faeries and demons should have held my attention, instead I skimmed through a fair bit of the inner monologue.
3.5 stars. Absolutely loved the build up, great characters, smooth flow of mythology and world building that did not feel cumbersome. Lovely animals that I almost wanted to pet.
Overall it is worth reading, just be prepared for rapid fire relationship developments out of nowhere in the latter half. It definitely held my attention and is an easy, entertaining, straight through read.
My major issue was probably length. It seemed like chapters were missing from the relationship building portion of the book. It is all very well to talk of fated mates, I am willing to roll with that, but it then needs to be expanded into an actual relationship, a few conversations, some actual time spent together... you know all that tedious getting to know you stuff.
(Jacquelyn Frank in particular does the fated-mate trope, into really-deep-relationship, very well).
Zanders' book was fantastic at creating tension, but there was minimal reward, for all the tenterhooks we were on, because everything seemed to speed up so abruptly once the two were physically in the same location.
It seemed like a novel that turned into a novella. The second half of the book lacked depth. I would excuse this as the whole 'it's part of a series' thing, with hopes we will see more of their expanded relationship in latter books, but the book opens saying that it can work as a standalone.
I never fully got to know either of the main characters, no inner motivations, no childhoods, no details on their history. However, I do feel I would have loved them if I had been properly introduced.
The problems here seem more along the lines of an author without the guidance of a good editor to tell her "go back fix this... expand on this" etc.
On a positive note, I really wanted more background and information on the Fae, so this was definitely portrayed in a way that was intriguing.
The wolf pack was adorable, and I don't think I met a character I didn't like, that I wasn't willing to learn more about, and who I didn't think could legitimately have their own book that I wouldn't mind reading. I will check out a couple more in this series.
I’ve found Abbie Zanders’ stories to be very entertaining, fun, sweet, often suspense-ish and sometimes downright hot. I received an advance copy of Faerie Godmother, and no, I can’t say how I got it or I’d have to silence you with my ninja skills. I was one very happy camper since I could read it right away. Picture a hyper kid on a massive sugar rush… multiply that by ten and you’ll get close to my level excitement.
What I liked most about this story is how Ms. Zanders takes the paranormal genre and gives it her own spin. With all the vampire, were-shifters, etc out there, it’s easy to start and go “oh, another PNR story” but I really enjoyed the uniqueness of this new series.
Ana is a very caring and gentle soul and is currently working as a veterinarian for a pack of werewolves after saving one of them from the brink of death. She doesn’t have anyone but these wolves who have taken her almost as one of their own. Matt, the pack’s alpha, and his sister are especially fond of her and Ana of them.
Vlane is a very powerful and imposing type of man, but when he first came on the scene, he was in a very uncommon situation to find a vampire in. When all returned to normal, since he had no recollection of meeting Ana, he was determined to learn how the situation came to pass.
From the very beginning is easy to see that Ana has a secret, and a big one, that might put her in danger. When the local vampires start sniffing around her, Matt’s pack is not too happy. Mythic might be a place where all type of extraordinaries coexist, but their truce is a very feeble one.
When Ana and Vlane finally get together (she played very hard to get) it was lovely to see a centuries old vampire fumbling with the simplicity that characterized Ana, who was pure in every way. Even though the relationship development between Vlane and Ana followed the expected arch of its circumstances, I wish they’d have more time to get to know one another and becoming a couple.
While I really liked Vlane and can totally see how he and Ana were perfect for each other, I thought Matt completely stole the show. The story ended up having a very slight love triangle feel to it and for a brief time I was totally team Matt. Fortunately Ms. Zanders has already told me that Matt’s story is coming so I’ll just have to patiently wait for it to arrive.
Now, I love me some HEA+epilogue and this one was totally cute and I just wanted to hug everybody. Faerie Godmother was a wonderful read that I enjoyed very much and I’m very much looking forward to the whole series!
*I was gifted a copy of this book because the Author is just that awesome*
The rule in a good romance is to never spend time making the OM sexier, more fascinating and intense than the H. Someone should have explained that rule to this author because, for 65% of the book, Matt was The Man who should have been with Ana. Vlane--what a dumb ass name--didn't do anything to earn the h's trust or love. Matt did. Vlane just comes in much later and kidnaps her. Actually from their first meeting, he takes from her without permission and later on continues to ignore her right to free will. I still believe she wanted to be with Matt and his pack, and even the author, along with Vlane, forced Ana to be with the H.
Vlane was just not interesting, and that is saying something b/c he is a vampire. Aside from good looks, wealth, and lots of intricate hobbies, there was nothing about him that was fascinating. He had about as much appeal to the story as a wet blanket at a picnic.
Ana was a vet and aside from her secrets, she would have been perfect for Matt.
This book bombed because the relationship between Vlane ad Ana , along with the HEA is no way at all believable. For most of the book, Matt and Ana were having a relationship until Vlane interrupted along with the poor author who felt she had to stick to the vampire and human dynamic.
My advice to her next time-
Don't spend so much time creating a secondary character who outshines your H unless you intend to use him to steal the h away from him. Because the readers, like me, won't buy into it. I didn't--- not at all. Hence the rating. I wanted to give this book one star but this author can write well but her character development staggered and died on this one.
This was an interesting read I was taken by the characters and the ideas of the story. It just felt a little too wrapped up. Like it all happened so quickly and the book was so short idk, I think I just wanted more from it. I didn't mind the insta love connection because I think it worked with how it was described so that's not my problem I think I just wanted more time with them together to see them together and then the ending kinda threw me with the forgetting. So wasn't a horrible read I just wanted more I would be interesting in checking out the second I think.
If you want to read a great book, just pick one written by Abbie Zanders and you won't be disappointed. Faeries Godmother has a little bit of everything for everyone in it. I loved it and can't wait until the next book comes out in August.
I had the pleasure of beta reading this book. I loved it so much that I vowed upon pain of death to leave a review. Okay, so maybe I didn’t make a blood oath or anything that dramatic, but I did promised to give props. Cuz that’s just how I roll.
Everyone knows that there are a few authors I fangirl over, probably because I don’t keep it a secret. FYI, Abbie Zanders is one of them. I’m a little obsessed, not in a creepy stalker kind of way, but in a I will read anything she writes kind of way. If you have never read Ms. Zanders, you are missing out. She is an excellent story teller. Like all of her other books, Faerie Godmother has an engaging plot that draws you in with well-developed characters (both main and secondary), real emotion, sexy scenes, humor, and a happy ending.
The story takes place in the fictional town of Mythic and centers around main characters Ana McKinnon and Vlane Masterson.
Ana is a sweet veterinarian who is hiding a special gift. Even her werewolf friends, which include Alpha Matthew Gullwolff and his sister, Dani, don’t know anything about her gift.
Vlane is a sexy master vampire with a tender, although no longer beating, heart. Vlane is desperate to find Ana after their chance encounter, at his masquerade ball, has an unexpected effect on him. He believes she may have the power to destroy him and those like him. When Vlane finally tracks her down, he realizes there is more to Ana than her gift.
A unique take on the relationships between vampires, werewolves, and other preternatural beings and how they interact in their little magical world. I highly recommend this book. I will definitely read it again and can’t wait for book 2 which comes out in August (it’s available for pre-order, just sayin’). Another homerun Ms. Zanders. Way to go!
I'm a huge fan of Abbie's books, so I was excited to see she's got a new series out. (If you like Romantic Suspense with a touch of Military, you MUST check out her Callaghan Brothers books. Seriously, GO NOW! This review will still be here when you get back. I'll wait....)
Abbie always has interesting characters that you really, really like. They're real people to me, with real motivations, feelings, thoughts... and the same is true for "Faerie Godmother". Usually you know who the Hero is in her books, but I have to admit that I was a bit confused. I wasn't sure how I was supposed to feel about either of the 2 men in the Heroin's life. But maybe that was the point? Maybe there was also a little poking of fun at a certain popular series, having them be a Vampire and a Werewolf? ;-) (Or maybe that's just me, but I chuckled at the thought.)
I wanted to know more about the town, but this story mostly takes place on Werewolf territory, which isn't in the town itself. I loved Matt, his sister, and the Pack, but I'd also like to get to know some of the people in the town, and the other Extraordinaries. Hopefully that will be in the next book - which I'm totally going to pick up! I've always loved fairy tales, and I'm intrigued by this new spin on classic characters. Really clever, and kept me guessing.
Not going to spoil anything for you, but I have to admit that Ana didn't end up with the man I really wanted for her. Don't get me wrong, it was a really fun book, but I was heartbroken for the other guy. I felt much more of a connection with him.
I've read a lot of Abbie's romances, from the Military/Suspense, to Time Travel, to Contemporary, and I haven't been disappointed yet. There's always fantastic characters and a Happily Ever After, and when compared to a lot of other digital titles, her prices are always extremely fair. For me, she's always a One Click purchase.
I read Fallen Angel first and really enjoyed it, so I decided to grab the first in the series as I was intrigued by the characters Ana and Vlane. Faerie Godmother was an fun read and I was submerged into the story. Writing is well done as well. However, the two characters didn't meet until about 58% of the way through the book. About this time, I was really beginning to hope Ana would have chosen Matt instead since he appeared to be the main character/hero through the majority of this. By the time she was with Vlane, there was little time left before the book was done, which didn't leave for much character relationship building. So I was left a little disappointed. It was a good read, though, and am enjoying this series.
I will admit in the beginning I was afraid the heroine was going to make a hasty decision out of fear. This story plays with the fated mates trope. The writing was engaging, and although I'm normally not a fan of naive avid final heroines, I didn't mind so much in this story.
There was so much wrong with this story - it's hard to know where to start. - Firstly, when our couple meet (but don't talk - at all) Vlane takes blood from Ana, doesn't ask just does it. And I couldn't help but think a little consent on her part here would have been nice. Even she admits that she didn't say - yes. But then lets him off the hook by thinking that she didn't say - no, either. - Our couple don't meet and have a verbal exchange until the 60% mark. Yep, you read that right, and this isn't a long book. - Ana, is all things limp. Honestly, how many times must we read she is good, kind, sweet and naive (a word all the male characters use to describe her and this isn't a good thing) - and how fragile she is, bringing the protective instincts out in all the males. - She never really consents to much of anything - letting the two male leads take over. - The romance when it does get going - boils down to we are fated - let's not fight it, it must be love. So not only does neither character really flex any emotional muscles they never really even get to know one another - just we're fated, i accept that, let's get married. Say what now. I found this disconnected and it had an appalling lack of story telling. There is no plot. He looks for her, looks for her, there is kind of a fight b/w the vamps and wolves, but that actually happens off the page and we only read about the results - just lazy.
Moved rather s l o w for such a short story, but kept me intrigued the whole time..
I really like Ana,I found sweet and endearing and very, very nice.... Maybe Too nice but I did enjoy her and I liked Vlane as well ( though how do say his name ? Is it Lane w/a silent V ( I don't get silent letters though have have extra letters there just "for looks?") or it like Va Lane ? Shrugs ,no clue but it looks nice and is different ;) ) Anyway I wasn't crazy about how highhanded he seemed when he finally got a clue and went after her, I mean I'm all for "fated mates" and all more than anything I wish I could step into a world like this or create my own and find my own fate mate in say a could of Siberian tiger twins or some thing ( Grinz Hey! I'd like plenty of attention sexual and otherwise and a long life to enjoy it in ;)
So Ana is a wish granting faerie, only she doesn't know about the faerie part. She works as a vet under the protection of Matthew and his werewolf pack, until she gains the attention of vampire Vlane. Matthew wants her as his mate but Vlane insists she is his fated mate.
I was actually really enjoying this until about 80%. the big problem was, there was nothing wrong with Matt. He was literally the perfect guy. then comes Vlane who Ana insists she knows so well after literally meeting him 5 seconds ago...it really didn't work for me. It was just flat. But that ending?! I'm still rolling my eyes.
I enjoyed getting to know this Mythic world. This first book kept my interest with this unique take on a place with multiple paranormal living in one place. Very nicely done.
This reads as an extremely adorable fairy tale. The spice is pretty next to non existent but honestly I’m not that mad at it.
This is an extremely light hearted story. If you want something to breeze through that’s not complicated this is the story for you.
Let’s go:
Ana is our leading lady. A wish granting Fae creature of some sorts. One night at a lavish ball Vlane (cue leading man), a 500 year old vampire bites her and turns into a human.
Let’s just speculate Vlane isn’t particularly too enthused by this lifestyle change. On a mission to figure out who, what, how, and why he was turned he ends up falling for Ana.
Ana is just trying to live her life but how can you do that when you’ve got a vampire in your head and a horny werewolf marking his territory so that said vampire can’t have you.
Faerie Godmother is an amazing paranormal romance by Abbie Zanders. You know an author is talented when they write something you usually avoid...and you love it. I usually avoid, no, I actually avoid anything that has vampires in it, but surprise, this book is full of vampires, shifters and other types of paranormal beings. Vlane, the ruling vampire, becomes human for a day after kissing a woman, but his memory is gone. Ana only wanted to go to the party and get back home without anyone noticing her. Ana and Vlane's story is full of drama, humor, action and sizzle. I enjoyed reading Faerie Godmother and can't wait to get my hands on another book by Abbie Zanders. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Faerie Godmother is book 1 of the Mythic Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
When vampire Vlane Masterson tastes Ana McKinnon's blood, he becomes human for a few hours. That shouldn't be possible. What is she, and how did her blood affect him so? Intrigued, Vlane investigates the local veterinarian, and becomes convinced that she is his one Fated Mate.
Unfortunately, Ana is not so easily persuaded. And she's protected by the Alpha of the local Werewolf pack, since Ana saved his sister's life.
Imagine a town where humans live alongside every kind of fantastic creature: vampires, werewolves, angels, demons, etc. This is the town of Mythic, where anything can happen, and romance can bloom in the strangest of fashions.
This series promises to be Mythic (pardon the pun) in every sense of the word.
** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ** ** ADULT CONTENT INCLUDED **
This is the first book that I have read by this author and oh my freaking God it's amazing and I am kicking myself for not finding this author's work sooner. I am dying to get my hands on the next book in the series!!!
I adored the storyline and it did not end how I expected at all and I loved that element of surprise. The characters were so well thought out and so relatable it made it super easy and addictive to read, I could not stop turning the pages, I read it in 3 hours as I couldn't put it down!
I seriously cannot rate this book highly enough! Everyone needs to go out and read this book!!
Pleasantly Surprised! This genre is beyond what I usually read so I started reading this book with an open mind and hoped for the best. Well I needn't have worried….Abbie Zanders is a brilliant and gifted storyteller and had me hooked within the first few paragraphs. I was pleasantly surprised with just how much I enjoyed the story and look forward to the next in the series. I recommend this to those who enjoy this genre and to those who don't usually read it I say, "Give it a try!"
I loved it! I can't wait to read more! This isn't the typical vampire werewolf story at all. Add a twist of faerie that doesn't know what she is and you get a awesome story. A lot of vampire stories have blood, gore and erotic sex scenes. This is mildly tame and I loved it! It is more on the human elements of the werewolves, vampires and it stoked a cord in the heart of anyone looking for their true love, their true heart desire. Wishes do come true!
I recently was introduced to this authors work and found her writing refreshing. I'm not usually a paranormal reader but I decided to take a chance on this one and loved it. Ana is an interesting character with an amazing gift, the wolf pack (led by Matt) are sweet and protective and Vlane, the vampire, is just downright sexy and determined. I highly recommend this series and can't wait to continue my journey through Ms. Zanders imagination.
Abbie Zanders takes an entirely new approach on the paranormal romance. There is a message here....about good over evil, or what some perceive as evil, about true love overcoming even the toughest odds. Ana, the heroine is beautiful and innocent. She brings out the best in others. Can't say more without giving away the book, but I enjoyed it and Ms Zander's fresh approach.
This was such a great story. The storyline of fated mates in a magical world was something else! I loved your perception and imagination. The characters were so well-written and intriguing. You really felt like you were in Mystic and were apart of that world! Can't wait to read the rest of the Series!
A quick read. The story was dragged out a little too long. The ending was a great start to the series, but the middle seemed rushed and unnecessary. The battle made no since again unnecessary. I wouldn't read it again but I will read the next story because I am nosey.
I really enjoyed reading Faerie Godmother and being introduced to the town Mythic. Vlane and Ana’s story had everything I love, well-written characters, romance, humor, light drama, and a HEA. Mythic came to life while I was reading. Already started reading book 2, Fallen Angel. I definitely recommend reading.
I absolutely love Abbie Zanders books! I've read all of Abbie's contemporary novels but this is my first paranormal book written by Abbie...it did not disappoint. I loved the characters, the setting, and the whole storyline. I quickly became immersed in this world. I would definitely recommend this book and those that followed. You won't be disappointed.
